We originally wanted to book the 5* Centara Grand for 12 days but once getting a quote that was above our budget, we decided to compromise and booked 7 nts at the 4* Centara Karon and 5 nts at Centara Grand. So glad we did! Centara Karon is a lovely hotel! Resort: It is very picturesque, with paths filled with tropical plants to wonder from pool to pool. Very clean. You see cleaners/gardeners everywhere. Room: We had a lagoon room for family of 4. Second floor of 3 storey building. A minute walk to kids lagoon pool. Again, room was very clean. Very large room for a 4* resort. We got 2 double beds which easily fit into the room. Walk in shower and bath. Plenty of storage space. Wardrobe and cupboards. A safe is available. No charge to use it. Grandparents had a connecting room as requested. Movie channel and cartoon channel on tv to keep kids amused for an hour before going out to dinner. 3 pools: kids lagoon pool with slides and toddler pool; adults only pool; and a large pool without slides. We spent most of our time at the lagoon pool. Plenty of sunbeds and parasols. As it was Christmas week (and fairly busy) we did need to bag the sunbeds before 9am. Collect pool towels from main restaurant in exchange for towel cards you get from reception. The yellow towels look rather tatty but there are also blue towels that look better. Breakfast: Choice of breakfast at both the main restaurant and restaurant next to lagoon pool. Main restaurant has a bigger selection but the lagoon restaurant has nicer seating and better waiter service. Breakfast was good but not amazing. Location: Right in the heart of Karon, with a good selection of bars/restaurants. Try Two Chefs for lunch or dinner....excellent! It's only 2 min walk outside the hotel. Also an excellent laundry just next to hotel entrance, 2 doors down from the Irish bar. 50 baht per kilo for wash/dry and they nicely fold and pack clothing. We got most of our clothing washed here to save us doing a load when we got home and it packs nicely into suitcases! Kids club: It's free and has some toys, ball pit, baby slide, a couple of consoles and big projector showing Disney films. Kids under 10 have to be left with an adult if they want to play with the consoles. Slightly annoying. At 8 and 9 years old, they were too old to play with toys so I was stuck there if kids wanted to go to kids club. Kids entertainment: kids activities mainly aimed at girls so my two boys didn't do any of them. They had a minions party one evening but it wasn't all that! A couple of girls dressed in minions costumes getting a handful of kids to sing-a-long to Disney songs and play bingo. We have visited Spanish resorts where they do kids clubs and entertainment far better. Note: Bring mosquito repellent and bite cream (1% hydrocortisone), if, like me, you get bitten lots! Karon shops sell 90% Deet. Overall an excellent resort and would highly recommend for families visiting Karon. Having stayed at both Centara Karon and Centara Grand, we actually preferred Centara Karon (with its lower star rating). It has cleaner, larger rooms; is in a better location and has lovely pools. We also did not get gastroenteritis here, unlike Centara Grand! I have left a review for Centara Grand also.
From the moment we arrived, we were greeted and treated like Royalty. The staff are simply the best. Nothing is too much for them... a welcome bottle of Champagne, Orchid flowers every night with the bed 'turn down' and fruit when I was ill for a day, to name just a few. The added 'Baht Bonanza' deal just makes your holiday and feels like 'All Inclusive' with the benefits of 'A La Carte' menus and room service. Swim up bars with your personal staff. The 'Azure' to beat any Western restaurant. We choose to stay in the main hotel as we have contact with the 'Front of House' each time we pass. This place is now home from home in the dark winter UK months. Thanks to all the staff, including Mr Wayne, Tim, Kanun, Su, New, Phet and all the other friends of ours. My husband, myself and our two kids aged 7 years and 5 years have just returned home after an amazing holiday at this hotel. We stayed in a cabana which easily accommodated two queen size double beds. The bathroom was a great size and the outside shower and plunge pool were lovely touches and which the kids and us really enjoyed. Housekeeping was excellent and the pool and playground were 15 second walk away but at night or during the day once our gate was closed the room was utterly private and quiet. Afternoon naps or a quite read of a book in the air con was entirely possible! Restaurant staff in the kids pool restaurant (Azure restaurant) were so friendly including Nam, June and Aoh and food came quickly which was great. Kids club staff Katy, Johnny, Sandra and Monica were full of energy and very friendly with the kids. Pool-side activities such as tee shirt painting (at an additional cost) or mini disco etc were a hit. The kids also opted on a few occasions to go to the kids club with some friends to do some additional activities there (parasol painting, crown making etc). Kids club is clean and the staff are very nice. It could do with some updating and perhaps more natural light if i were to be picky! Kids swimming pool and slide are awesome. Our kids just played for hours with friends they made pool-side. Our 5 year old could stand everywhere apart from the deep end which is roped off. This meant we were totally chilled out pool-side and for the first time ever didn't have to get in for hours on end to watch him! Nearby Karon is literally outside the hotel gate. This hotel is not on an isolated hill top! The beach is a short walk away and you can nip out (I had one of the most amazing massages ever with Nim Massage shop) and be back without using any transport. We loved our holiday and would definitely go back.
The location is just off the hussel and bussel of the Karon Beach area. The beach is about a 5 minute walk and the shops / street food sellers are about 30 seconds away. The hotel itself is spread over quite a large area. When booking in we were asked for a large deposit, which can be paid in cash or credit card. We were in the Tropical block of accomodation which is about 10 years overdue an upgrade. The bathroom was poor and the bedroom was tired. We were on a half board deal, but if I was going there again I would just go for breakfast. The food was of a good standard, but there were so many good restaurants at very competitive prices a few yards outside the front door. The menu for lunch and dinner and lunch for half board was reduced in its offering. After a few days you didn't need the menu. I would recommend they change the menu a little every few days or offer daily specials. Breakfast was very good. We were there for their Xmas eve party. The food was great with a very large selection and the entertainers did a great job that night. The kids pool has a few slides which the kids loved. There was also a larger pool available. The bar staff there got annoyed if anyone was swimming energetically and splashed the bar a little. I saw them telling off people a few times which I thought was strange. There were plenty of loungers at the start of the week, but early mornings were required to secure them as the week went on. Drinks were extremely expensive and added up very quickly, although there were some limited happy hours available on cocktails. The gym was pretty good, but the equipment was ready to be updated. The staff the the gym area were constantly on their mobile phones so you were generally looking at the top of their heads when you signed in. Some classes were available including Thai boxing but again this was very expensive. The 10+ year old zone for kids is two computer games and a movie and is unsupervised. Generally, a good standard of hotel. Rooms need updating. Good attentive staff generally. Close enough to the centre of activity but far enough away not to hear it.
We loved this hotel. The location is amazing, with so many restaurants and little shops within a stones throw - walking distance to Karon night market which is on two nights a week. 5-10 min walk to the beach, but we are not really big beach goers. The pools cater to everyone's needs. Different wings: We started in the Terrace. Closest to the outside world, a bit further from the main pool but close to the pool for the more mature (unwritten adults pool). We did have some noise from outside late into the night however, and were quickly moved once we told them that didn't suit us. If you stay in the Terrace wing, request a quiet room. Lagoon rooms - closest to the family pool in the middle of the resort. Great location and good rooms. Lower level rooms better if you don't want to do the stairs to many times. Tropical wing - this is where we stayed after out move, and it was great. Up the back of the resort - so a bit further to the street and outside world, right by the Tropical pool which is great for couples and families with older kids (or younger) just doesn't have the slides. Interconnecting rooms were perfect giving us loads of room and 2 bathrooms. Once again, request lower level if you don't love stairs - would be difficult for the elderly or not as mobile as it is a bit of a hike to get too and no lifts. Also checked out the 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom cabana's which were amazing. If you want a nice resort but don't want to upgrade to the 5*, these are a great option. A lot more room than the 'family room's in the lagoon wing, as while much larger than the standard rooms, the family rooms are still just the one room with the 1 bathroom (2 double or queen beds). Breakfast great, staff wonderful, location amazing. Highly recommend staying here and would never hesitate in going back. Hope this helps.
We stayed 8 nights at the resort and felt that the time flew by. The resort offers allot of activities for the kids which is a good thing for parents who want to relax. The kids pool is amazing. The restaurants food is also good with a variety available and pricing fair. The service at the resultant is great (quick turnaround time of meals for hungry kids). The rooms are nice and clean with fresh linen daily. The wifi signal is great, there is a strong signal throughout the premises. A special thanks to these staff members (Monica, Sandra and Mara) who went over and above their duties to keep the kiddies entertained, they are easy going and very helpful. Overall this resort is a great place for a family holiday!!!. Highly recommended!
We stayed at the Centara Karon resort for 5 nights during Dec17. We had a great time in general and the best aspect of the hotel is the location. It's 2 mins walk to the main street where there are plenty of restaurants and bars. It's also within 15 mins walk to the Karon market which is open every Wed and Sat which we bought some bargains. The Karon market's prices are normally slightly lower than the permanent shops in Karon and more varienties. There are 2 pools that kids can visit but the main pool with slides is the popular one. Room has comfortable beds but will soon need some renovation. There is dirt and stains especially in the bathroom that looks quite unpleasant. Furniture is a bit wore as well e.g armchair has a patch sew on it to cover the big hole. Breakfast has a lot of choices but we didn't eat at the restaurants for other meals. If you want more choices to restaurants, take a tuk tuk or taxi to other end of Karon and there are many more choices. Overall we had a pleasant stay as it's at a good location - visit Nin massage which is around the corner and also you can get your laundry cleaned and dried for 50 bahts per KG (you get it back by 6pm the next day). Front office staff are not the most helplful. I asked them how to get to Dino mini golf and should i take Tuk Tuk.. their response was " if you want to". Staff in general does not look happy to be working there (other than those at Kids club and organising pool activities) It kind of spoil it a bit when you see staff that looks a bit miserable.
Cannot speaking more highly of 'carpe Siem Cannot speak more highly of the 'carpe diem" team, particularly Sandra, Johny, Katy and Monica. They did an outstanding job and I always felt my daughter was in safe hands. I witnessed them daily go that extra mile and made our stay memorable and fun. She is still talking about them now! If you are looking for a family friendly resort and a good location, this is for you. Thank you team for providing all great activities.
Stayed in the centara resort for a few days when visiting and never wanted to leave. Beautiful deluxe spacious room with a roomy balcony. 3 outdoor pools to choose from with an adults only pool area which was lovely and peaceful. Attentive staff and fantastic breakfast service.
Loved every aspect of this resort! We travelled with our 16 & 14 year old teenagers & we all loved it!!! Great location to pop out & dine or shop locally in Karon or simply stay in the resort & escape the hustle & bustle. Great staff, food & pools! Highly recommend!
