Hotel Viator Paris - Gare de Lyon3.0 out of 5.0

Very, very clean, comfortable mattress and practical location—just a few doors down from the Gare de Lyon. Nice having a kettle in the room for making tea. Small lobby, friendly staff, it was just right.
A very conveniently situated hotel for the Gare de Lyon. It was a safe neighbourhood for a solo female traveller even with the local sex shop. A quiet hotel with beautifully decorated rooms & a small but clean modern bathroom. There is a small lift but I loved using the spiral staircase to my room. It was raining in Paris when I stayed there - the sound of the rain on the roof with my lovely view of the street made this hotel even more charming.
I spent one night here last summer, since I needed to find something near the Gare de Lyon after arriving from several weeks in the South of France before returning to the States. Often, I stay in the 6th, so I do not know this neighborhood or the hotels. This choice was great--within a few blocks of the train station--and on a quieter side street. Well, being August, it was pretty quiet around that area, even on a weekday. It's in one of those late 19th or early 20th century buildings that was modernized. The service was competent. The lobby is small, and the room was small, fine for one night for a single person. But it did have high ceilings, and I had a great view looking down over the street. My rating relies on the hotel's value. They have a breakfast room, but I had breakfast outside at a cafe down the street, the Duc de Richelieu, which is also a wine bar. There are plenty of restaurants nearby--a good one is A la Biche au Bois, which I have been to a few years ago. Classic bistro food specializing in game and still has great reviews on this site and others. If you want a walk nearby, go up to the Viaduct des Arts and window shop, or walk along the gardens above, which were still lovely in August.
This is a very positive review. The hotel is just as described on the Hotel Viator web page. I've stayed at the hotel two time this year and enjoyed it very much on both occasions. The support staff at the hotel are very nice, helpful, and enjoyable to talk to. The hotel is inviting, safe, and feels very comfortable. The rooms are very quiet and comfortable. The location of the hotel is perfect, very close the Gare de Lyon and walking distance to Seine and Notre Dame. There are very good restaurants and convenience stores in the vicinity. I look forward to staying at the hotel again.
The room was somewhat small but in good condition. Check in and check out was painless. It was somewhat strange to be asked twice at what time I was coming back when going out in the morning. I am now an adult and can go out on my own ;-)
Not a high end hotel but i got quite a decent bedroom and people are very nice. Good for the price you pay and the hotel is not far from the gare de lyon which is not bad at all if you have to move afterwards.
We stayed for four nights in January at the Hotel Viator and we were very pleased with our experience. The room was a good size for two people, with a compact en-suite attached. The style was a mixture of classic and modern, which at some parts felt a little tired, but we were provided with everything we needed. Our room lacked a fridge, however we kept orange juice and the milk for our tea and coffee outside the double doors of the Juliet balcony in the freezing Parisian winter, but I wouldn't advise this in the Summer! We didn't opt for the breakfast option in order to keep our costs down, and there are plenty of eatery options very close by, from supermarkets to bakeries, cafes and restaurants. The train station is 5 minutes walk down the road from the hotel, which is ideal for both the RER train to Disneyland, and the Metro into the centre of Paris. Alternatively, walking is a viable option, with the Bastille and Notre Dame not too far away. I would definitely recommend this as a couples/adults hotel for visiting Disney and sightseeing around Paris.
Friendly and welcoming this little jewel is perfect. Just steps from gare de Lyon train station in a bustling neighborhood where it seems real people live and work, we spent our favorite night so far. The room is tiny, but it has all the necessary amenities and loads of charm. The bathroom is spotless and the shower hot. Many cafes and restaurants nearby as well as a shopping area. Breakfast is 10 euro and well worth the price. A complete selection of coffees, juice, warm hard boiled eggs, bread, yogurt, cereals meats and cheeses. Treat yourself.
The Hotel Viator is very convenient to the Gare de Lyon and a very cute place, but we didn't get off on a very good note! Our confirmation materials listed two separate check-in times, 12:30 pm and 3:00 pm. We didn't even notice the difference until we arrived, so we assumed our check-in time was 3:00 pm and we would just drop our bags off and return at that time. When we arrived, we were told we could not check in until 3:30 pm. Ok...we returned a little after 3:00 pm, assuming we'd have to wait a bit. But, upon arrival we were told our rooms were ready! Great! Unfortunately, when we got to our rooms they were not ready; one was almost done and the second wasn't even started. So, after the first room was ready, four of us crowded into it to wait for the other room. At 4:15 pm, nearly one hour after getting our keys, our second room was finally ready. Upon entering the room and going into the bathroom, I noticed there were two hand towels but only one bath towel. There are two of us staying in the room. When I went back into the hallway to ask for a second towel, I was told that there were two bath towels already. When I said that there were two hand towels but only one bath towel, I was rudely told that this was impossible and upon grudgingly giving me a second bath towel, was told that now we had three bath towels, essentially telling me that I was lying about there only being one bath towel. Wow! I've never stayed at this hotel before; we are doing so because it is close to the Gare de Lyon and we are departing on a train tomorrow morning. Definitely not a welcoming or positive start to our stay and I will not be staying here again!
I stayed 5 nights at Hotel Viator and loved it. It is placed right by Gare de Lyon so is easy to access from the airport, metro or trains. It also means you have the RER and metro at your fingertips to explore Paris. There are heaps of places to eat nearby and also a small supermarket around the corner which is well stocked. The room was small but what you should expect and was perfect for my needs, it was quiet even though the room faced the road. The staff were friendly and man the receotion 24 hours a day so there is always someone to greet you after a day sight seeing. If I visit Paris again I would definitely stay at the Hotel Viator.
