Stayed for 4 nights at a reasonable price for central Paris Best features: 1) the lady at the front desk who was willing to carry on an entire conversation in French even as my own language skills were a bit rusty--she was hilariously terrific and kind 2) the street noise in the evening--the hotel is down a short and tiny, side road 3) shower in the room 4) no TV 5) the walk to the toilet . . . deadly, but interesting as the toilets are across the spiral staircase to another 1' landing
I loved the Hotel De Nesle. It is tucked away in an alley very close to Pont Neuf in St. Germain so it is comfortable walking distance to Notre Dame, the Louvre and the good food and atmosphere of St. Germain. It is also convenient to Metro stations and RER stations. There are only 18 rooms spread out on five floors. I was fortunate to have a room on the top floor which looked like an artist's loft where one could have imagined the great artists/writers staying back in the day. There is no elevator so I had to hoof it up five flights each day - not a bad situation (if you are able) to work off that rich French food! My room had a shower inside the room and a toilet just outside the room by the stairs.
