We have stayed at the Calypso on several occasions but this was our first stay in Tower III. The unit is located directly on Front Beach Road. It is a corner unit so the balcony actually faces Front Beach Road. On Saturday night, there were people out cruising and revving their engines until 3:00 a.m. so if you are looking for a quiet location, this is not the place. However, if you are in to watching people do crazy things at all hours of the night, you will enjoy the location.
We ate out for all of our meals but if you plan to cook in the unit, be prepared. The kitchen is not stocked like I'm used to when I rent from VRBO. We couldn't even find a pair of scissors to cut our wristband that we had to wear.
This unit is run by a management company, not a private individual. Calypso now has a system in the parking garage where you have to scan a bar code to get in and out of the parking garage. We could not check-in until 4:00 p.m. (not a minute early); however, the parking attendant let us in the garage a few minutes early so that we could walk around, etc. After our check-in, we left the parking garage to eat dinner and buy some groceries. When we returned at 8:00 p.m., we could not get our bar code to get into the garage to work. The parking attendant looked at the paper and the bar code issued by the unit property management company reflected 11:00 p.m. as the time that we could start using the garage (it was supposed to say 11:00 a.m.). The parking attendant advised us to go the Calypso Office. I found an office on the property for Panhandle Rentals. The lady from Panhandle Rentals told me that I needed to speak with Gibson Beach Rentals and that I would have to call the number on the paper with the parking bar code. I called Gibson at 8:10 p.m. and got a recording that they closed at 8:00 p.m. and to call the after hours number. I called the after hours number and spoke to two different reps and both advised that Calypso was not listed as one of their properties so there was absolutely nothing that they could do for me. I put the rep on speaker so the parking attendant could hear her. Our paperwork for the unit clearly reflected Gibson Beach Rentals as the property owner so the parking attendant was kind enough to let us in the parking garage until we could speak with someone from Gibson the next morning. The issue was eventually worked out and Gibson took care of us but not before a lot of undue stress.
