Ark Hotel Osaka Shinsaibashi - ROUTE-INN HOTELS -3.0 out of 5.0

If you want to be a couple of minutes away from Shinsaibashi and Dotonbori, this hotel is a great choice. The room we got, however, was a little cramped, including the bathroom. The breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of food. Overall, the hotel is dated but the location compensates for everything.
Room much too small for 2 people. Bed too small for 2 people. Hotel did not even have a 3 to 2 prong adapter to plug in computer, so had to walk 5 blocks to buy one. Bathroom not much bigger than washroom on a B777. Overpriced by North American standards by far but probably in line OK for Japan. Air conditioning works very well though.
When we entered the lobby, it smelled a little smokey, but our rooms were fresh and clean. You can open the windows for fresh air, but make sure the curtains are closed as there are hotels across the street and I saw people peering out their windows. The rooms are small and efficient like most Japanese hotels. The staff spoke some English and were very helpful in showing us how to get around town. They printed out maps in English for us and marked it to help us. The buffet breakfast was great with fresh fruit, Western and Japanese selections, expresso, cappuccino and Perrier. The entrance to the train and metro is a few steps from the hotel. Crysta Nagahori, one of the largest subterranean shopping malls in Japan is just down that stairway. We found our way to Tokyu Hands by following the signs. You can leave your luggage in the lobby before you check in or after you check out. Average hotel, but, a great value with their location, buffet breakfast and clean and comfortable rooms!
First I have to say this hotel is located at shinsaibashi area and convenience, and the subway station just next to the corner, you will feel everything is good before you check in. After check in, you will find the hotel is out of the decoration, the room key still using "key" type, and you getting worry about your room! Finally when you step into the room, a tiny room welcome you, but tiny room is common in Japan, but this room is old fashioned, bathroom is biggest then your sleeping bed, and pls do not open the window, smoke was curling up the chimney to your window! But I have to say is easy for you to getting everywhere from hotel, even shinsaibashi area only less then 10mins walking distance.
The train station just located beside of the hotel. There is 2 restaurants right opposite of the hotel main entrance and 1 right beside the train station. All restaurants nearby the hotel was good, they have vending machine at every levels! The design and interior design of the hotel was abit old and the room is big!
They don't speak English!!!. We had difficulty communicating in English with the staff. Overall, the hotel is well located. The hotel is near Namba Station and Dotonbori area. There are commercial areas, supermarkets, convenience stores, subway station and post office. The room needs renovation. Very disappointed when we asked if we could pay with VISA at hotel restaurant, they said they would not accept credit cards !! ..... in the end, we ate out.
On a Tour Group so had to meet at this Hotel and there really isn't to much to say about it unfortunately. Taken to our room for the first night and omg thought to myself where the hell are we going to put out luggage ? couldn't swing a cat around let move around in the room ...tiny is an understatement....but when your tired thought bed would be nice and comfy wrong ......apart from that the staff were very helpful to our group and helped us organize our luggage to be departed to our next location with ease.Restaurants around the hotel altho were fantastic food and cheap.Only stayed one night and then off on our adventure with G Adventures fantasic time
The hotel room is ok. Bed and pillow are a bit hard but nothing catastrophic. Many japanese hotel have the same confort. The price is really good and the situation is perfect, very near the metro station. The staff is ok except ONE woman at the front that was very unpolite. She clearly shows that she doesnt like her job...
I stayed at this hotel last week(2016/12). It is located just near Nagahori-bashi station of subway and so convenient for visiting. But I walked from Nihonbashi station because I wanted to see the scene along Sakaisuji-street. It took around 20mins from Nihonbashi station to the hotel on foot. There are many restaurants and shops along this street and it is convenient for lunch/dinner. I had a reservation for one single-room and the room is general Japanese single room. I think foreigners may feel a bit of tiny. Please refer to my pictures. But as the location is good and the price is reasonable, I think it is good hotel.
I initially thought the place was small, but now having moved on to another place, it's comfortable enough for those with luggages. Pros: location is right next to a train station, reasonably close to one end of Shinsaibashi, eco option at the hotel is a good way to get some bottles of drinks Cons: none that really matter to me
