The Anaheim Hotel3.0 out of 5.0

With the relatively low price of the hotel room and being a short walk to Disney and the convention center I had somewhat low expectations of this hotel. The pics were nice online and the reviews were favorable. Neither lied. While the room was pretty basic it was clean and quiet. A fridge and microwave is always a bonus that don't even come with high end hotels most of the time. It looked like one of the wings of the hotel was closed for renovation and crews were working the entire time I was there but it was never a disruption as the buildings are separated and spread out throughout the complex. I would definitely stay here again.
This used to be our go to hotel for years (as season pass holders). I was excited to return after hearing renovations were taking place. DON'T be fooled - no room renovations are taking place (per staff member) and the customer service has gone downhill! At check in I requested a room near the pool (I was told everything was booked). When we got to our room we were surprised to see that what the hotel considered "queen size beds" looked more like fulls. (Keep in mind we have stayed at this hotel under prior management several times so we were well aware that there were double beds, queen beds, and king beds). Unfortunately we couldn't call the front desk because the phone in the room doesn't work. When we did get in touch with the front office they again confirmed the room we have is queen (I would call it a very "skinny" queen) and there were NO other rooms available and no manager to speak with. A quick jump on the internet proved that I could still book a queen room ... so someone wasn't being honest. Two hours later, five different employees, additional non truths, we are finally offered a room near the pool that previously did not exist. Keep in mind it is now 9pm (so we ended up staying in the room they put us in) broken screen, broken AC, broken phone because at 9pm it's easier to stay than move your kids and all of their stuff clear across the hotel to the room you had initially asked for at check in two hours prior. SO, if you don't mind skinny queens, broken screens, broken AC, broken phone, 24" old school box tv, and turn dial microwaves - then this is your place because it is near the park. As for me, I'll be cancelling all my future reservations I have booked for the season. Disappointed to return to what was our "home away from home" at Disneyland to get the worst room I have ever seen. Never in all our stays has the quality of the room paled in comparison.
We've been staying at the hotel for nearly 20 years. Currently going through a ownership/management time which was definitely in need. New management and staff are great, anything you may need is taken care of quickly and effeciently. The rooms are being upgraded, very comfortable and clean, also many rooms have decks/patios. The location is right in the "bubble" of Disneyland, California Adventure, Downtown Disney and a number of restaurants, fast food outlets plus a CVS and Walgreens within a 5-10 minute walk. Also, the hotel has a new "Pizza Port" restaurant that is open early and closes late - very good. The Olympic sized pool is the best in Anaheim!! Book directly with the hotel as they offer occasional special rates, especially mid week. We will continue to stay at the Anaheim Hotel and enjoy the ongoing remodeling project. I guess the only thing that was not our favorite change is the parking charge.
We opted to try this hotel as they offer a Disneyland Annual Passholder discount. It's a no-frills option for staying close to the parks. We were traveling with our sons (17 and 20) so it was economical. The room was clean and the bed comfortable but if you're looking for something more 'magical' for your visit, maybe look at other options. There was a small microwave sitting on top of a small refrigerator placed like an afterthought on one wall while the dresser clearly had a cabinet designed to hold the refrigerator. As noted in other reviews, the shower leaked (no placement of the curtain seemed to help), but there were two sinks which helped us all get ready. There is also a small coffee pot in the room but if you're a tea drinker - take your own, they only supply coffee. Of the four room keys we had for our room, only one worked and the others needed to be rekeyed but the staff were friendly and the new lobby remodel looks great. I sure hope they expand that to the rooms. There is also a complimentary breakfast served until 10:30 but we didn't use it so I can't comment to what they served. For reference, it is directly across from the new Guardians of the Galaxy tower in California Adventure (formerly the Tower of Terror) so it's only about a 5 minute walk to the parks (more if you get stuck at lights). If you're looking for economy on your trip to the Magic Kingdom and don't intend on using your room for much more than sleeping and showering, it will likely suit your needs.
The Wi-Fi does not work even after reporting it and the staff claimed to reset. Shower floods and it's dirty. Worst of all, the room has roaches. It appears that in order to get a full refund there has to be a major pest control problem. I truly don't care, one roach is too much. The staff also makes use of cheap tactics by claiming there are no managers. There is always a manager on duty. Do not stay in this hotel. Pay a little extra to avoid all these issues.
My husband and I have stayed at this hotel on two previous occasions, and it was clean and the staff courteous. Upon check in we were given keys to a room that was occupied! We were then given a key to another room and it was substandard, bathroom was disgusting, toilet wouldn't flush properly, shower appeared dirty and the sink stopper was very difficult to open and close. In fact on our last morning the whole thing fell apart. They rekeyed the rooms part way through our stay but didn't tell anyone this was happening. Front desk staff couldn't even tell me how to get a message off the phone or how to turn off the message light - it flashed for 6 days. My husband was bit by a spider which caused considerable pain and discomfort for days. Walkways were dirty and full of garbage. Most days the rooms weren't done until 3 or 4 o'clock in the afternoon. There was supposed to be free wi-fi, however, it couldn't be accessed from the room, you had to be in the parking lot or the lobby to obtain access. The only good thing I can say is about the breakfast buffet which had a very good selection and was reasonably priced.
Was a bit concerned after reading some other reviews, need not have been! Would have stayed longer quite happily if time allowed. Location was excellent. Valet parking attendant was super friendly and helpful right from the start. Early hassle free checkin was so appreciated and welcome. Lobby was bright, airy and clean. Check in staff were also super friendly and helpful. The room itself was big and roomy. The air con was a bit hit and miss, wasn't really cold throughout the night, but we had a patio that we could open the door. Bed was comfortable. Ground floor was a bonus for us. Great laundry, although it did take a long time to dry our clothes and was a bit pricey compared to others we have used. The pool is fantastic, absolutely huge! Great area to sit around too. The pizza place inside the hotel lobby was great, you can actually have your own pizza made to your liking with just the toppings you want. Yum! The surrounding gardens are a credit to the yard people, a real sense of calm and tranquility. An easy walk each day (or like us older folk, a couple of times a day) down to Disney entrance. Would have no hesitation in recommending this place.
We stayed in this hotel two nights while visiting Disneyland. Great location! It is 10 minutes walking distance to Disneyland. There are plenty of parking spaces but parking is not included in the price of the rooms, $10 per day.
We visited Anaheim for a cheerleading competition. This hotel was perfectly located about equidistant from the Disney entrance and the Anaheim Convention Center. It's also right next to the Anaheim Gardenwalk, with several restaurants a bit away from the Disney beaten path. It's also very close (1 block) to a CVS on one corner and a Walgreens on the other - so snacks and morning cereal were easily obtained. The hotel is undergoing renovations; the lobby area is almost finished and the front desk clerk told me that by next year, the hotel buildings and rooms will also be updated. We were given a choice of a ground floor or upstairs room. We took the 2nd floor and were given a parking pass. I've parked in Disney-area hotels before and had issues finding parking. Not so with this hotel - there seemed to be plenty of parking the whole time we were there, which limited frustration. The buildings are in need of some maintenance. The paint is peeling and they just need some love, but they worked for us. They have a configuration of a central walkway with rooms coming off each side, and stairs at 3-4 points along the length of the building. If there was an elevator in the 700 building, I didn't see it. We carried our suitcases up the stairs, which was not an issue for us, but might be for others. The room itself was a decent size, with a bathroom immediately to the right of the doorway, and featuring a very long counter outside the bathroom itself (toilet and shower/bathtub) with double sinks. This gave us both plenty of room. This room had two queen beds, a desk, armoire with dresser, flatscreen, in room coffee, larger than usual mini-fridge and a microwave. The beds were firm and comfortable. Considering how close it is to a lot of traffic and people, the room we had in the 700 building didn't have any external noise. However, there was a lot of movement in the building. Some kind of equipment caused small rumbles through the floor. The first night, it literally felt like someone was pushing down on the corner of the bed, which was strange. We also had the experience of loud water pipes when the people in the room next door were taking a shower - the pipes were shrieking a bit. It's just an older building that's been used a lot. It was as clean and attended to as it could be, considering how much use it gets. I would stay here again.
The location is great. Only a few minutes from Disneyland. The front desk clerk was very professional and informative at check in. I'd say who she was but she wasn't wearing a name tag. She told us about the renovation they'd be going under soon with the rooms. Unfortunately the hotel will be knocked down in a few years so the room Renovations will only be minimal. Kind of sad since it's been up as long as Disneyland has been there. The good news, they're completely rebuilding it to make it more modern. There was also the new addition of a restaurant and a larger bar. The room was ok. Outdated, but pretty clean. The view we had was nice too. All rooms had balconies and bottom floor rooms seemed to have small patios. It was actually pretty cool. We went to the bar after the first night and the bartender seemed pretty cool but she openly talked about very personal things. She mentioned she couldn't drink on the job but she seemed to have snuck a few shots. Besides that, the drinks she made were great! Haha I'd recommend it for someone looking for a close place to disneyland at a decent price.
