Nice bar but the rest needs a major overhaul

The bar area is great with a superb view. The rest of the hotel is in desperate need of attention. A musty smell fills all the corridors, the carpets looked like they'd not been cleaned in days, the walls were dirty and/or damaged.

Dirty, dated, and not well managed. NOT HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBLE AS stated. Elevator broken. Paint chipped off windows, glass broken out of windows and borded over. Carpets FILTHY. Bugs dead on carpet next to bed. Plaster falling off wall onto stairs. Heater did not work in room. Had to ask for blanket 3 times to finally get one. Shower filthy. Expedia ratings WAY TOO HIGH to be true.

The hotel is literally falling apart. We let the front desk staff know we were checking out after our first night due to the conditions of the hotel. No hot water, door banging in the wind all night, creaky floors, peeling paint… crooked stairway, no elevator, spongy floors which felt like you might fall through. Overall one of the worst hotel experiences especially for how much they were charging for such poor conditions. Every other place I have stayed in Ireland and Scotland on this trip has been amazing, comfy beds and great breakfast for the same cost. This was disappointing in every way. Not even a good breakfast to help make up for the rundown condition of the property. Believe the bad reviews and do not book this hotel unless they do the promised renovations they say they will do. Until then they should be charging a hostel rate not a hotel rate. I honestly have never felt the need to leave a bad review but this one deserves it. Save your $$ for anywhere else.

Poor reception on arrival. Lift not working. Fire alarm went off 6 times. Mold round window in en suite. Clearly needs a lot of decoration in the building. No information in my room. Staff helpful.

Old and very much in need of repair. Asked to check in early but receptionist was extremely uncooperative. Making us wait until 3pm. And then gave us a room that hadn’t been cleaned. The cleaning staff explained that there were rooms available from much earlier and that they had told the receptionist what rooms were not ready, yet she gave us an unfinished room. I think she just wanted us to have the worst room it had a view of a slate roof, broken sink taps and every floorboard squeaked. Needless to say we won’t be back!!!

Oh dear. In its day this place would have been magnificent. Great location etc. Those days are long gone. It needs massive investment as it is so dated. The staff do their best but can only work with what they've got. We had two nights here and would not recommend it at all. It served its purpose. We got a bed, fed in the morning and a basic bathroom. No frills stay.

This property is in a great location. Unfortunately, it's pretty tired and the owners haven't put any money into the property. It could be great but I don't think they care. Except for the great bartender, the staff wasn't too helpful when I mentioned the marijuana smell in the hallway and barking lapdog in the morning. I felt bad for any guest with mobility issues since the elevator didn't work during out stay.

Pros: - Location and views - Parking - Staff working with the little they have Cons: - Everything else This property could be something special but sadly its owner/manager has no pride in his/her/their country and it's reputation with travellers choosing to visit this beautiful area of Scotland. He/She/They also have no shame charging for rooms that barely meet standards, if indeed they do. Without spending a cent, things could be improved. For example; hang the curtains properly. The hooks have come off the rail meaning that closing the curtains for privacy or against light is futile. I would have done it myself if I had access to a ladder. The one hook behind the bathroom door (which doesn't close by the way) is laughably pointless as nothing placed on it actually stays there. I'm sure there is black mould that is covered over with paint and there are areas everywhere that paint is peeling. I think the person cleaning does the best possible job he/she/they can do under the circumstances. Breakfast is fine and the staff there are friendly and helpful. This hotel is part of the Bespoke group of hotels which doesn't speak well for that brand and we'll be avoiding it in future.

Great location but mixed staffing experience

Nice hotel although needs a bit of upgrading. Lovely location and worth paying for a sea view. Car park is a challenge. The hotel works a system where you have to book through reception. But many people don’t comply which meant we did not get our allocated space. I felt hotel could have dealt with this better. Worth noting that there are nearby public car parks that are free from 6pm to 9am. So a good alternative option. We had dinner, bed and breakfast. Food was good and a variety of choice. Dining room has lovely views across the bay. I felt reception staff could have been better. It doesn’t take much to welcome you properly, and also say hello when you pass. Slightly redeemed with check out. Waiter on Saturday morning kept telling everyone how management had left him on his own. Not a good image to have staff openly criticising management.

Great Stay. We have been before to this Hotel so we new what to expect. Staff Great and Polite. Breakfast very good, Its an old Victorian Type Hotel but you get what you pay for,Yes there could be a few improvements here and there with the Structure but what suits some dosen't suit others. The price was right so there you go. Would we go again yes.

The hotel is clean but a little tired. The lift had broken down on the day I arrived which meant climbing about 70 stairs up to my room on the 3rd floor. Bed very comfortable and en suite rather small but everything needed was there. Staff helpful and friendly. Very nice breakfast. Limited parking.
