Buyer Beware!

Photos on Hotels.com suggested a quaint nicely decorated and maintained seaside hotel. Perhaps the water-facing rooms were in better shape but our standard rooms that faced the back weren't. The shower in my brother's room dark gloomy room was covered in black mold that gave him a headache and nasal congestion. A health department in the US would have condemned it. They gave him a better room after he complained the next day, after comparing it with mine which, had a bad ceiling patch but minimal mold and a functioning window. The sole elevator was broken our entire visit. Elderly and movement-impaired guests struggled to climb and descend the stairs, which may have diverted their attention from the rusty, peeling paint onthe adjoining walls. For what we paid for our rooms this was a massive disappointment. The staff did what they could with what they had to work with; I blame the hotel's ownership for letting what clearly was a beautiful hotel in its day sink into decrepitude. Nobody paying those rated should ever be given a room in the condition of my brother's first one.

Location is fantastic!! The hotel is old, but needs much refurbishment. The lounge, entry area and all are pretty, but the bed in our room needs replacement. If I had it to do over I would have paid more to stay on the coast in a similar location.
Great location
Bathroom circa 1940
Lounge has a nice view

This stay was not good at all. When I checked in there were two operatives on the desk, it took just over 40 minutes to check in as Yes there was a queue of one person in front of me but still check in was far too slow. In addition there was a problem with the gas or something which which meant that a full cooked breakfast was not available. This was not only disappointing but there was no reduction on the price of the stay offered to residents for the inconvenience of no full cooked breakfast. I am not a happy customer.

The view is amazing, by far the best part of the hotel, right on the ocean, wow. The front reception is nice a bit on the aged side. Our room was decent. The shower, gross!! There was mold on the walls and curtan and the drain did not go down while showering. Took about 5-10 minutes to drain... after your shower was finished. I was also disappointed that even though we paid to stay the night, we had an additional charge to park our car. If you need a place to stay and are out of options the Western will do, but dont set you standards too high.

The hotel is a 'Grand Dame' for sure but has seen better days but for the location and value it is a fantistic choice. Our stay included breakfast which was a plus but the coffee was terrible so go with the tea and juices. Car parking was at ≠£6 per day but space is limited, best is to request in advance of arrival.

TBH, it's a place in need of the TLC; it obviously used to be a grand place, but it's getting a bit tired. The facilities are all you need, though - basic, but all there. The breakfasts were quite good: serve yourself and plenty of choice. We didn't see much of the staff, but they seem efficient enough. The location is lovely (if you get a sea view) and only a couple of minutes walk from the town centre. If this place had some money spent on it, it could be magnificent again.

Bespoke really needs to take a good look at this hotel and make some upgrades. If you choose to fly your country’s flag they should be in good order. Shame on you

The hotel is a grand old lady who has seen better days but is rather tired and frayed. However the view is super, rooms as clean as they can be, breakfast plentiful and varied, and the staff were helpful and friendly.

Great location, beds were comfortable. The room was in great need of an upgrade. The bathroom was horrible moldy around the tub, the corridors smelled really badly of damp. I sometimes think when you book with trip adviser or Expedia you sometimes get the worst rooms. Wouldn’t stay there again.
