This hotel is adequate, but nothing to brag about. Average to good location - the beach is about 0.5 miles straight through the park past Fort DeRussey. It's an easy, shaded walk. The hotel is about that same distance from the heart of Waikiki dining and shopping on Kalakaua Ave and the International Market Place. If you're ok with a bit of walking then you're fine. There's not a lot to do right by the hotel like others in Waikiki like the Hilton and Marriott brands. Then again, that's likely why you get such a good price. We didn't mind the walk to the beach, shopping or dining. Good breakfast - probably the best feature is the free breakfast with pre-made omeletes, sausage, gravy, biscuits, pancakes, bagels, cinnamon rolls, cereals, yogurts. It seems to stay busy. Prepare for a line at the door when it opens at 6:30AM. Great activity options on the 5th floor - putt putt, large chess board, foosball, ping pong, shuffle board, pool and hot tub. This was probably the second best thing about this hotel. Not that clean - I'm not sure they vacuumed our room in 10 days. The bathroom floor looked pretty dirty from day one. Parking is tight - don't plan on parking in the garage if you return to the hotel in the evening; it'll likely be full. They will reimburse your day in the hotel garage if you have to park offsite, but it's more a matter of convenience for us and we didn't want to,have to park somewhere else and have to go move the car the next morning. Also, people park along the walls making it impossible for two cars going in opposite directions to get through. It's tight enough already without the added pain of parking along the walls. Elevators can take a while - there are six elevators for 44 floors. Three elevators service the top floors while the other three elevators service the bottom half . All six elevators service the lobby through the third floor. They were many, many instances where an elevator would finally come to our floor, but it would be full so you had to wait another few minutes for the next one. It took us nearly ten minutes to get from the 33rd floor to the lobby on occasion. Oh, the elevators get HOT and when crowded it's not super enjoyable m Small room - our room was small enough, but felt extra crowded with two queen beds, the chair and the small table. Probably the tightest space we've dealt with in a hotel room since Venice or London. Room with a view - higher floors mean longer elevator rides, but if you get a corner room on a high floor with a view of the beach and mountains you will appreciate it. Bottom line - if on a budget, stay here and save even more by taking advantage of the free breakfast. If you can spend another $50-$100 a day, then opt for a hotel in a slightly better location and one with more resort-like amenities. We already planned our next trip to Honolulu and picked a different hotel. We decided to go with a hotel closer to the center of Waikiki and closer to the beach.
Property is very clean and updated. They served the same thing everyday for breakfast (came with the room)--but has to have a breakfast ticket for every person over 12 yo. Right on Waikiki strip. 10 min walk to the beach. Rooms are very small especially the corner rooms facing the beach.
The rooms are small but clean. Breakfast was pretty good, The workers are very friendly and helpful. laundromat was overpriced . Great location, about a mile from Waikiki beach, there is also a McDonald's and House of pancakes about a block away.
Spent 4 nights here and had a good tine. It is a nice hotel, in a good central location, good value for money and good amenities. We (2 adults and 1 child) had a room with 2 double beds. The room wasn't too big but had everything we needed. The hotel has a pool & spa, games room as well as putt putt golf and outdoor chess. The free breakfast was good as well. Highly recommended !!!
Hotel was nice-tiny rooms; but if you organize your stuff, it was good. Staff was always friendly - especially the lady cleaning our room. Was close to walk to shops and restaurants, but this was first visit not staying on beach and it was too far. Most bus stops were close, you just gotta figure it out early. Thumbs down...calling the "play area" by the pool an ammenity. Mandatory $20 a day for something you don't use-riddiculous!!!! It was cute, but alot of extra money for something that didn't get used. Ping pong on a roof top where it was consistently windy-again, riddiculous. The money you spent on this activity area should have been used for an adult pool or a kids pool. Sitting in a hot tub with kids constantly jumping in and splashing you, not so relaxing. While the staff was friendly, they weren't so helpful. Helping with bus/trolley schedule-not so knowledgeable. Most frustrating, finding a wheelchair for my mother. She didn't need one full time, but would have enjoyed her time there more having one a couple of days. Disappointed hotel didn't have one; but if they could have at least gotten me in touch with a company-would have be helpful. Company they gave me sucked - once I finally got ahold of someone, their customer service was bad. My mom ended up not getting one...disappointed!!
We stayed 3 nights at this hotel. We arrived early due to an overnight flight and the very helpful desk staff rearranged rooms so we could check in early. The room was small but clean and well appointed with coffee, wifi etc. The only problem we experienced was the air conditioning was very noisy regardless of settings. The included breakfast was disappointing as it offered little low fat options and differed little day to day. The hotel is well located if you wish to avoid the busy downtown area of Waikiki. It is a short walk to a good beach, bus stops, a large park and also Waikiki.
This hotel is a fantastic place to stay. I spent 5 days staying here with my family, the rooms are bright and welcoming. They offer a free buffet breakfast which has excellent fresh food every morning. Its only 5-10 min walk down to Waikiki beach and localised to some excellent restaurants. I cannot praise the staff enough they were always so friendly and greeted us every morning when we would leave for the day and welcomed us back every afternoon excited to hear what we had gotten up to for the day. There is a pool, mini golf course and a games room available to guests and they have a coin laundry for you. I highly recommened this hotel to anyone staying in Waikiki.
Helpful and friendly staff. Great breakfast bar. Very clean. Room very small but did not plan to spend time in room except for sleeping. Parking garage was often full, but was able to find parking. Breakfast staff excellent!!
Hotel renovations are very nice but room size should have been enlarged. Overall stay was good and property itself was well maintained as far as cleanliness, however, having experienced 2 fire alerts during the wee hours of the morning and climbing down 20 flight of stairs at 3am only to be told that they were false alarms wasnt too pleasing. Then to add fuel to the fire on day 3 after having been notified by hotel staff that the laundry facility would be out of service for 48 hours with no alternative solution or suggestions doesn't sit well when you're away from home for a week..
For budget travelers, HIE was a great choice compared to other hotels in the area close to Hawaiian Convention Center. Our room # 4410 (partial view of Ocean, topmost floor) was just as promised - with a partial view of the canal to the left, Diamond Head volcano in front view and partial view of the ocean to the right. The room was clean, the bedspreads and pillows all crisp white and the bed was very comfortable. Some reviews have found HIE rooms small but since we had only backpacks and one carry-on, the room size didn't bother us. Those of you with multiple luggage might find it small. The air condition was loud as many reviewers have said, but it is effective and at the time we were there (June 4-June 11), it was pretty humid so we welcomed its full blast. The hotel's complimentary breakfast was great - Apart from sugary cinnamon buns, muffins, sliced bread and bagels, there were machines churning out pancakes. There were also eggs, sausages, hot and cold cereals, milk, yogurt, juices, fruits (bananas and apples), tea and coffee. What more you want? The hotel pool is small, but then who wants to be in the pool when you have the ocean to swim. There is also a Jacuzzi. I didn't use the pool until the last day when I had some time to kill before check-out. There is an outdoor play area next to the pool and a gym somewhere in the building which I didn't bother to look. The hotel also has laundry facility which I didn't use. There is a small convenience store in the lobby that came in handy when I wanted some chilled bottled water. Overall a great experience. The newly renovated hotel felt fresh and contemporary, the staff very friendly (as we found all Hawaiians to be that way in general) and budget-friendly in expensive Hawaii. One complaint though - the hotel driveway is very small. When a driver in front of you parks and disappears or someone is offloading luggage, the car behind it gets stuck. Hope the hotel management sees to it that there is someone assigned to better manage the drop-off, pick-up situation there. Hawaii is such a beautiful place and the hotel only helped in making our first time experience there a memorable one. We will certainly be back. Thank you, HIE! Mahalo!
