We stayed 3 nights at this hotel. We arrived early due to an overnight flight and the very helpful desk staff rearranged rooms so we could check in early. The room was small but clean and well appointed with coffee, wifi etc. The only problem we experienced was the air conditioning was very noisy regardless of settings. The included breakfast was disappointing as it offered little low fat options and differed little day to day. The hotel is well located if you wish to avoid the busy downtown area of Waikiki. It is a short walk to a good beach, bus stops, a large park and also Waikiki.
This hotel is a fantastic place to stay. I spent 5 days staying here with my family, the rooms are bright and welcoming. They offer a free buffet breakfast which has excellent fresh food every morning. Its only 5-10 min walk down to Waikiki beach and localised to some excellent restaurants. I cannot praise the staff enough they were always so friendly and greeted us every morning when we would leave for the day and welcomed us back every afternoon excited to hear what we had gotten up to for the day. There is a pool, mini golf course and a games room available to guests and they have a coin laundry for you. I highly recommened this hotel to anyone staying in Waikiki.
Helpful and friendly staff. Great breakfast bar. Very clean. Room very small but did not plan to spend time in room except for sleeping. Parking garage was often full, but was able to find parking. Breakfast staff excellent!!
Hotel renovations are very nice but room size should have been enlarged. Overall stay was good and property itself was well maintained as far as cleanliness, however, having experienced 2 fire alerts during the wee hours of the morning and climbing down 20 flight of stairs at 3am only to be told that they were false alarms wasnt too pleasing. Then to add fuel to the fire on day 3 after having been notified by hotel staff that the laundry facility would be out of service for 48 hours with no alternative solution or suggestions doesn't sit well when you're away from home for a week..
For budget travelers, HIE was a great choice compared to other hotels in the area close to Hawaiian Convention Center. Our room # 4410 (partial view of Ocean, topmost floor) was just as promised - with a partial view of the canal to the left, Diamond Head volcano in front view and partial view of the ocean to the right. The room was clean, the bedspreads and pillows all crisp white and the bed was very comfortable. Some reviews have found HIE rooms small but since we had only backpacks and one carry-on, the room size didn't bother us. Those of you with multiple luggage might find it small. The air condition was loud as many reviewers have said, but it is effective and at the time we were there (June 4-June 11), it was pretty humid so we welcomed its full blast. The hotel's complimentary breakfast was great - Apart from sugary cinnamon buns, muffins, sliced bread and bagels, there were machines churning out pancakes. There were also eggs, sausages, hot and cold cereals, milk, yogurt, juices, fruits (bananas and apples), tea and coffee. What more you want? The hotel pool is small, but then who wants to be in the pool when you have the ocean to swim. There is also a Jacuzzi. I didn't use the pool until the last day when I had some time to kill before check-out. There is an outdoor play area next to the pool and a gym somewhere in the building which I didn't bother to look. The hotel also has laundry facility which I didn't use. There is a small convenience store in the lobby that came in handy when I wanted some chilled bottled water. Overall a great experience. The newly renovated hotel felt fresh and contemporary, the staff very friendly (as we found all Hawaiians to be that way in general) and budget-friendly in expensive Hawaii. One complaint though - the hotel driveway is very small. When a driver in front of you parks and disappears or someone is offloading luggage, the car behind it gets stuck. Hope the hotel management sees to it that there is someone assigned to better manage the drop-off, pick-up situation there. Hawaii is such a beautiful place and the hotel only helped in making our first time experience there a memorable one. We will certainly be back. Thank you, HIE! Mahalo!
The only fault that we experienced was a very very noisy air conditioner. We had to turn it up to level 36 to hear anything. At night we turned it off and opened the windows. The lifts are very very slow .
First time in a while staying at a three star hotel, but we were pleasantly surprised It's main selling points are the location (walking distance to everything), good views, kids stay and eat free, as well as the free hotel breakfast. There also great amenities on the fifth floor, with a life size chess board, small but adequate pool, tons of deck chairs, cabanas, spa, Pitt putt, games room and gym. The recent refurbishment also meant it was easier in the eye than any other similarly priced hotels we could find They also have a coin operated laundry Full length mirror in the rooms and a great tv. Coffee machine and microwave The rooms are a little tight, the lifts a bit slow (and stuffy). The plastic cups in the room were a little amusing, no wine opener (had to go to house keeping to use the only one they have in the whole hotel). Parking is $27 a night. But all of these things were bearable and not an inconvenience, considering all the positives On one last note, breakfast finished at 9:30, and they literally slide the door closed that surround the buffet. It's quite efficient, but a little weird! I also noticed many of the guests unashamedly 'taking away' food (read lunch) from breakfast; one woman even brought her own plastic bags! Perhaps the hotel should keep an eye on this stuff :)
Pros: Very good place to stay. Walking distance to everything! Great breakfast. Wonderful staff!! ABC store across the street. Cons : pool closes very early. All hotels have this : Parking fees and resort fee.
the rooms are holiday inn standards, the location is just so so. There's IHOP in front of the hotel, nearby Mcdonalds, must try japanese restaurant in front of Mcdonalds, ABC store in the corner. We chose this hotel to avoid beach front noise and daily beach fee (with or without using) Walking distance to duty free. We we're told to keep away from the back road at night as it is dangerous. Parking fee is same as other hotels, super expensive. Everywhere else is the same...
The renovations that were done have made the place look like brand new (my older daughter enjoyed seeing the fish in the lobby). Even though the room was small, it didn't matter because we were on the go most of the time (as I would imagine anyone would be when visiting Hawaii). Hotel had the best free breakfast I'd ever seen, lots of choices; the cinnamon rolls were my favorite, but the instant pancake machine was a close second. Pool deck area is nice (even though it was little windy during our stay, we were still able to enjoy it). Lastly, I want to give a huge shout out to Sebastian, he greeted us when we arrived and assisted with getting our luggage up to our room while I parked the car. He also interacted well with my two daughters (my older one always remembered seeing him and commented on how nice he was), always asked us how are day was, and wished us well when we were stepping out. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others.
