I write this review on behalf of a basketball team that was assigned to this hotel. The roof in the main lobby was leaking. The hotel is infested with stink bugs. Several guests had to change rooms due to blood and or pee stains on sheets. One family was awakened by water on their feet leaking from the ceiling. Sadly there were no sheets available to replace the wet ones. The desk chairs in several rooms had crusty stuff on them. The staff was very nice but there was no correcting the structural problems. This facility is filthy, garbage cans were overflowing and in dire need of renovation. X
Typical Quality Inn with quick check inn, clean ordinary room with all the expected amenities, easy on-off the expressway and close to Valpo (University), minimal breakfast if you're interested in it. Hotel wasn't the cleanest Quality Inn I've ever seen, but I only have to walk through
Quick trip to see family and needed a reasonable priced hotel to sleep. HArd to find because of poor lighting on sign. Desk clerk hung up when I asked for directions. Room was adequate, clean bathroom. Was advertised as non smoking but this room had a smoky odor. Very clean bathroom. Don't plan on eating the breakfast.
The standards for cleanliness are low in this hotel. There is mildew in the shower, beds are haphazardly made, and there are visible water stains on the ceiling. I had had enough - and then a spider crawled the bathroom floor. I rarely post bad reviews, because I am not difficult to please. I had booked four nights, but had to check out and go somewhere else.
This was one of the quietest motels I've ever stayed in. It is easy to find and in a good location, close to the University campus. Unfortunately, our room was never cleaned. We returned to the room at 10pm to find dirty towels had been taken away but not replaced; we were left with one washcloth and one hand towel between two of us. Beds weren't made, garbage wasn't emptied, empty shampoo bottle wasn't replaced...nothing but towels removed. And, upon checking in, I was surprised to find a little bit of brown hair on the bathroom floor (we're both pretty gray now) and the light fixture had a number of dead moths and bugs in it. I realize most staff probably doesn't have time to clean light fixtures, but there were more than a few dead bugs. I've definitely stayed in worse places and I appreciated the quiet. But for $160 would've appreciated getting clean towels after a long day out.
We've stayed at this place a few times in the past couple years and each time it feels more dirty and run down. I wish there were more options in Valpo. The breakfast doesn't change so if you're staying there more than one day, you're going to get sick of it really fast. If you're bringing a lot of luggage with you, be sure to request a first-floor room. There is no elevator and it really stinks having to drag the suitcases up the stairs. Our bathroom felt a dirty, a lot of dust and what looked like mold, on the bathroom vent, the bathtub needs to be caulked badly, and there was a sticky spot on the carpet. Also, the pool was closed and this was the second time this has happened. That particularly stunk because the pool was the only reason why we stayed there this past time. We do not plan on giving this place another try.
This used to be a Marriott Courtyard and was a consistent hotel and I stayed here often. Since becoming a Quality Inn it has steadily gone down hill. We checked in and there were smokers, truckers and workers partying out in the entire end of the parking lot with lots of drama---a bit unnerving for my wife. The inside hallways et. were dirty and showing wear. If the room had not been clean (it was acceptable) we would have left. Very poor breakfast!
I usually don't review hotels - so much can contribute to an experience including how rushed or tired you are. And in general I don't think we are very picky guests. But this hotel was so bad I feel compelled to warn other travellers. By far the worst breakfast buffet I have seen in all of my years of travel. Remnants of bags of honeycomb and fruit loops, mystery meat hash and rubbery eggs. Nobody cleaned the breakfast area in spite of dirty tables and overflowing garbage cans (and it was not busy or crowded). The alarm clock in our room and our TV remote didn't work. There were several wet sections of carpet in the hallways with fans set up to try to blow them dry. There was an oily scum that sat on the water in the hot tub and there was very murky water in the pool (both visible from the lobby). Front doors struggled to open. AC units were spotty - desk staff suggested to keep trying to turn the unit on and off and see if they could make it work. Desk staff tried to help guests, but the breakfast staff didn't even bother. There are multiple other hotels right in the vicinity - I strongly recommend that you stay at one of them instead.
I've stayed here often over years and am now in the 4th and last night of my current stay. Room is clean, well maintained; bathroom well equipped, though today there was little hot water for morning shower. But food is very disappointing (same every day, few options, no bacon or sausage like last year, and taken away right at 9, coffee and all, on weekdays, 10 today); pool is frigid, and back gate was left open & fence could admit a person between slats; entry door to parking has no lock; and there are few lights in the lot. TOO MUCH CUTTING OF CORNERS. May be my last stay. Sad.
We recently stayed here for 8 nights. There are lots of pluses for this facility but it does have several annoying problems and two substantial problems that need to be rectified before it improves. They are about 25% away from a 5* rating. Let's start with their good points. 1) Large rooms with furniture featuring lots of storage. 2) Indoor and outdoor pool. *** (See needed improvement area) 3) Large spa *** (See needed improvement area) 4) Well equipped exercise room. They even have a variety of hand weights! 5) Lots of parking 6) Within walking distance to restaurants, across street from Walmart and close to gas station 7) Close proximity to interstate 8) Most of staff are friendly and accommodating *** (see needed improvement area). We really liked Hannah Rich, Anthony, Sue from Housekeeping (*who was awesome)and their maintenance man. Areas to improve to upgrade facility to a great facility. 1) Room electronic doors are keyed oddly. It was not unusual to swipe the key card 5 times before being able to enter. 2) The breakfast area was poor. Biscuits were regularly hard and stale, bananas were dark and offered few fruit offerings. We stopped eating there and went to Walmart for breakfast supplies. Disappointing. 3) Their HVAC unit cannot keep up with warm weather. Our room had no AC one night. We did hear from other rooms with similar problems. We were given a credit by Anthony for the problem. Thanks Anthony! 4) We had no hot water that same evening. It was connected to the boiler issue. 5) Both pools need the cleaning chemicals adjusted as the water was not clear. We did not feel comfortable using them. 6) I enjoyed the spa but it needed a good cleaning as well. 7) There was one rude housekeeper who used her phone so loudly that it would bother patrons. She also refused to tell me where I could put a dirty towel. Her exact words were "not my room, not my room". The main issues that the owners and management need to address is the air unit & boiler, breakfast quality and overall cleanliness of the pool and spa. If these were working, I would had given them a better rating.
