my family and I stayed in the suites, It was amazing! they were very clean! was a quiet but beautiful escape. The indoor water park was very fitting for all ages. and also very clean and supervised.. The complementary breakfast itself was wonderful! It was like ordering off a restaurant menu. the Rodeo was a great time. The children loved it. the back forty was fun also! so much to do and see . You will not be let down at all. My children beg to go back!
I was celebrating my birthday and was very excited to see the suite my partner selected for us! The living room was great with the fireplace and TV. But the TV had a loose cable and it took us a while to get clear reception; there seemed to be cable for some stations and an antenna for others. But TVs were in both bedrooms as well; I can imagine a large family really enjoying that! Nice kitchen layout and suite had two balconies, and a whirlpool tub. I loved having my own room and bathroom, towels, and even my own entrance. Fun horse decor felt like we were at a ranch! Dinner was amazing overlooking the golf course with friendly and helpful waitstaff. However the golf staff began and ended their day in a garage right under our window. They started early and talked loudly waking up my partner early when we were on vacation...golf carts were coming and going all day; the carts were washed right under our window as well. I was glad we didn't bring little kids, because the water park was closed for our entire first day there, and about a 1/3 of the arcades seemed to out of order and old. Fortunately for us, it was a non-issue. The underground parking was a neat feature, we felt like VIPs but angle parking would have been better--it was really difficult to back out of a straight on space when the garage was full. Overall I would recommend it and I'm glad we went, but since I'm not a golfer and don't ride horses, I probably won't go back.
I took my daughter and 2 friends here for an end of summer overnight trip. I will list the positive things first. 1. We stayed in the Thoroughbred Suites. It was beautiful and clean and really impressed the girls. 2. The restaurant on site was clean and the food delicious. Waitresses were friendly and chatty. 3. The water park was pretty fun and mostly clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. 4. The trail ride was fun and pretty well organized. Kind of tame for the 2 experienced riders in our group, but they still enjoyed it. Now for the things that did NOT impress: 1. By far, the #1 most annoying thing was that the ONLY real restaurant closed at 4 p.m. on Sunday. Where the heck are people supposed to eat supper? We had to content ourselves with really bad pizza at the bar/restaurant. I wanted to order virgin daiquiri's for the girls, but the blender was broken. REALLY? The only blender you HAD? They literally could not serve ANY mixed drinks at the bar. Service was slow, as they were understaffed (one girl tending bar and 2. The mini golf was UNBEARALBY hot and humid. It was okay at first, but by the time we reached the 12th hole, everyone was dripping sweat and getting cranky. 3. A number of the games at the arcade were out of order. If you lost a token in a game or something like that, you had to walk all the way to the snack bar to get a replacement. There were no signs telling you what to do. I had to wait until I got the bartenders attention to find out. 4. The western town is cute, but pretty deserted. The general store was open (glad we could get snacks, since the pizza was so bad and we were so hungry from not being able to get a decent meal) but short staffed. Even on Monday morning (we went back there for our ride), there was nothing going on and little open. 5. The signage/wayfinding is poor. We were so confused for the first few hours as to where to go and what door to use, etc. We had no idea where to park when we drove over to the Suites area and had been given no information on the underground garages, doors, etc. We had to figure it our ourselves. 6. The door to the second room in our suite was locked when we got there. We had to call someone and she had a terrible time getting it open. She even advised us not to lock it again. Overall, while this was clean and kind of fun, we won't be back. There are other resorts in Michigan (within the same distance for us) with water parks that are better. The only thing this has going for it that is different is the trail rides.
It was a couple days before Labor Day weekend and we realized we didn't make any travel plans. We wanted to do something as a family. We started expanding our search out further and further, outside of Michigan and across the country. Finally narrowed it back in and my wife said, "What about horseback riding somewhere?" That lead me to finding Double J Ranch, only a couple hours from home. We were pleased to find they had rooms available. We booked the Homestead Condos. There was also a rodeo going on the weekend we were there, so we opted for that package. When we showed up at around 10pm and checked in. Ashley, the young lady at the desk gave us an incredible check-in experience, explaining what everything was and gave us some tips for our stay. She made us feel like we were home. We booked our horse ride that night as well. When we got to our Condo, it was apparent that no one else was back in that area. It was very dark. We used our flashlights and found the door to our room. When we opened the door, it was evident that we had made the right decision. The condo was huge, with a great view, full size kitchen, large master bedroom and loft. The room felt a little dated, with older TVs in the living room and loft room. The master bedroom had a smaller LCD TV. The stools around the bar were horse rear ends - it made us all laugh. The king bed in the master suite was two full size mattresses pushed together and were pretty worn out. The jetted tub was a nice compliment to the master suite. The bathroom was nice as well. Our son stayed in the loft and enjoyed it. Our condo had a couple of burned out lights and the phone did not work. We told the front counter the next morning, and the lights were replaced but the phone did not work throughout our stay, which made it difficult to call for their free shuttle. The next morning we went to breakfast as the Sundance, their on-site restaurant. The breakfast was buffet style, with bacon, sausage, eggs, French toast sticks and a variety of fruits and pastries. Everything was delicious and the staff was friendly. We decided to start our day after breakfast, going to the water park. The water park was a blast! Again, it was a little outdated but was not busy at all. They had a couple of huge water slides, including a funnel style one that you went down in twos on tubes. My wife and I enjoyed lounging on the lazy river while our son explored the slides. They have two spas, one that has a section outside and a second adult only one. If you have kids, the water park is a great addition. Inside the main lobby is also a snack stand, arcade and souvenir shop, which all had extremely reasonably priced! This was a welcome change after having visited Great Wolf Lodge this spring and having been priced gouged. We had booked a horse ride for Friday afternoon, my wife and son had both rode horses once in the past but I hadn't. The Wranglers leading the horse ride were very helpful - and by the time the ride started I felt comfortable on the horse. The hour ride went through a beautiful wooded path and was very relaxing. I would highly recommend the horse riding! We returned to Sundance for Dinner. The restaurant offers a beautiful view over the golf course and lake with tall vaulted ceilings and floor to ceiling windows. Service wasn't bad but it did take a while to get everything, including silverware and water once we got our table. The menu prices are on the medium cost scale, ranging from 10-40 dollars for entrees. My wife ordered shrimp tacos and my son and I ordered steak. My steak was overdone and my wife didn't care for her entree, as it was cold by the time it came out, which took about 30 minutes. I'd rate the dinner about a 2 out of 5, if you are looking for high end dining. The Rodeo was incredible! We had never attended a rodeo and this was the highlight of our trip. It was the Wally Wojack Memorial Rodeo commentating a former owner of the ranch they had passed away and was the first annual one that they were putting on. Everything was ran wonderfully, the BBQ was delicious and the entertainment was great. Once the rodeo started, the announcer and rodeo clown commentary was hilarious and kept the flow going very nicely! Kudos to the event organizers and staff! We plan on going again next year if they have it. We also took time and visited the other attractions, the general store, got an old Western picture taken, putt putt glow golf and the arcade. The picture was a blast. Putt putt golf was fun, it was a little warm due to it being above the pool area but they warn you ahead of time. The course also provided a unique perspective of the water park from above, it was neat seeing the slides and funnel. We borrowed bikes from the general store but they were pretty beat up, someone needs to take some time and fix them up. I found myself fixing the breaks on two so we could ride. However, there was no charge for the bike or helmets, so I didn't mind. All and all, despite the couple of negative points, our family had a blast making memories! We will be back again, Likely booking a Thoroughbred Suite or Loft since they looked better maintained, but we can't wait! The staff was incredible, the activities were a blast and the prices were reasonable. Thank you Double J staff for the amazing weekend! Overall I would rate our experience at Double J Ranch a 4 out of 5.
We stayed at the suites and man was it beautiful! First, we was originally in the cabins but we called and found out that there was not Wi-Fi there and I Also saw some back reviews. So I had them move us to the suites and man that was the better decision I could have made! Because the suite was beautiful. Full kitchen with dishwasher. Two fireplaces the suites sleep 8. On the main floor was the master suite with spa tub in the room and a fireplace. Also had full bathroom with shower. The upstairs loft area was for the kids. It had two sets of buck beds the one with the full size bed on the bottom and there was a full bath up there as well with a standard tub. The view was amazing! We where on the three floor and could see one for the two golf courts. The staff was very accommodating because we checked in alittle early and there was no charge for that. We even has a issue with the upstairs bath tub and there where right on it! I would recommend this place to anyone but make sure you stay in the suites and not the cabins!
Pro’s are that our Airbnb was very nice with a comfortable bed. Lots of things to do and very close to silver lake. Food at the Sundance saloon is delicious. Con’s Our server at the Sundance saloon was not good she brought our drinks to start and then took our order she came back with our food but we had no silver ware so she left to get the silverware and also a beer my husband ordered, she was gone quite a while and another serve noticed us sitting there and asked if everything was ok we told her we were waiting for silverware and then our server comes back with my husbands beer and again no silverware. By the time she brought it my food had to be reheated and we were just ready to take it to go. I worked as a server before and even a manager and I was just surprised by her lack of customer service experience. We paid in advance for a trail ride and let them know we were not experienced riders so when they put me on a horse and told me she likes to go into the bushes to scratch her stomach I was a little concerned but about half way into our ride my horse started bucking and I became so anxious I had to get off my horse and our trail leader was awesome she took the reins and tried to calm the horse but it still was bucking, she said it was horse flies and the horse didn’t have a long tail to defend herself from getting bit. I don’t blame the horse or the girl who took us on the trail ride but I felt it important to share this review.
We had an “ok” time camping at the Back Fourty. I was unaware that the campground was 1.5-2 miles away from Double JJ’s resort. As we pulled in I thought “wow” check out this old western town, there will be a lot to do! Well, that was not the case at all. Like everyone said, it is like a ghost town. It was basically all for looks. They had an empty general store with ice cream that look slimy and a place to take Western photos where the hours are very limited. The only thing that saved our stay was the outdoor swimming area. We really enjoyed that! We did make our way down to the resort (annoyed we had to drive) at 9:45 to ride the mechanical bull and to putt putt but we were told we were too late. They already had the bull area shut down and put putt was apparently closed too. We made our way back to our camp site to start a bonfire fire to realize we did not have a bonfire pit!!! I have to say this is the first campground that this has happened to us. Hello BACK FOURTY.... campers like to have bonfires!!! Disappointed in general but did have a nice time at the outdoor pool area.
This place is a nightmare.cabins are filthy on the outside.Lawn was littered from the trees.roofs covered with mold.porches were sand infested. Refrigerator froze my granddaughters insulin.the western town could be a ghosttown. steps to upstairs steep.Found carpet beetles in luggage. had to call three times for towels. shuttle was dirty and drove way too fast.Fan in bathroom sounded like a jet taking off. Bed spreads were old and dirty. $600. for two nights ....water park had rust stains on child area. concrete cracking in bottom of the pools. The best part of the trip was the food in the restaurant.our waitree was also the bartender..Our children had to wear shoesin the cabins due to dirty floors. The managment should be ashamed ...the waterpark wasnt even included.
We have only scratched the surface of the Double JJ Resort. My parents live close so we will definitely be back to do a few more of their activities. Lots of options for the family to keep the kids busy and happy. Friendly staff and reasonable pricing.
all the time, but I paid for the bed we should be able to just get some sheets We also asked for towels they came a day later. Water park, DO NOT GO it is unsafe. The lifeguards were more focused on there phones, and not to mention basic lack of training when it comes to people who have fallen and hit there head which I seen happen at least 7 times. When it came to the older woman who fell the lifeguards didn't even notice. Lets get into the fact that it is falling apart, there is rotting wood in just about every spot you look in the entire water park we also ended up finding pieces of the water slides on the floor where the children are supposed to be playing thank God we got the metal before their feet did. They have spots blocked off by paper that once said closed and chairs that have been kicked over. Now let's talk price. We have a room with no windows, a bunkbed, a queen bed, no breakfast included, no water park not even an ice bucket. All of this for almost $250 a night once fees were added. They upcharge for everything they just want your money please do not be the reason they continue business like this I'm still here hoping for anything positive to write wish me luck! PS just got told our room was never serviced bc maybe the neighbors had do not disturb on their doors
