This resort has been the worst place my family and I have ever stayed at. The place was filthy. The building is falling apart. The staff is useless. People come in off the streets and use the pool and smoke pot and the management did nothing. Not worth a dime to stay here. We come down here every year and could not get into the place we usually stay at. If that ever happens again we will stay home before we ever settle again. This place is a joke
Elderly or handicapped people should avoid this property. We were a party of two 80 year olds, one 75 year old, and one disabled 58 year old. We were put on the 3rd floor (top floor), noting the ground floor is not the first floor. There is no elevator in the building. There are no handicap parking spaces. It was a struggle to leave and reenter the unit. There are 2 sets of stairways. One stairway should be converted into an elevator. A large complex hotel, Island Vista, is adjacent to this property. Each day the lifeguards there would set up umbrellas and chairs in front of the Ocean Forest Colony beach area in addition to in front of their own property. There was little beach area remaining because the other side of the area in front of OFC is a drainage ditch from the street and from (who knows else where?). Most beach walkers do not even want to step in the drainage. Thus, there was limited beach space during high tides for renters at OFC without having to trek a way down the beach. The pool area was nice and kept clean and was acceptable except for wild vegetation encroaching into the perimeter and up through cracks in the boards in the pool area. On the walkway to the beach were wild runners of thorny vines which were also not kept trimmed. This, of course, required vigilance to keep bare feet off the thorns. I understand OFC was built in 1980. There have been some upgrades in the unit such as fresh paint and refurbished furniture, so its not as if the units have been totally neglected, but some of the flooring was noticably sloped in our unit (3B). The maids did a suitable job with what they had to work with. However, both toilets had problems. One toilet would not flush if one leaned against the tank. The other had a old, loose seat that needed to be replaced because of discoloration and marks. The shower curtains were placed too high or were too short making it difficult to shower without getting the floor wet. These things are easy and cheap to fix and should be maintained. There was no TV channel guide available making one have to search all channels to find the one desired. This annoyance is also easy to fix. During our stay, it was very quiet and the unit was secure. Altogether, though, I consider this to be a less than standard travel vacation facility. I would not recommend OFC to elderly, handicapped, or fastidious travelers.
This place doesn't have many bells or whistles, but is very quiet and a great place to relax with my wife and kids. I'll be back for sure. While there are a lot of big, super resorts in Myrtle Beach, this place is quiet and more personal and can be whatever you want it to be.
