I think this is my 4 or 5th stay in this hotel and was perhaps my most disappointing. Don't get me wrong I will probably head back based on my previous experiences. The check in / check out and breakfast was fine. It was the room I was dissatisfied with, the bathroom has a leaking shower and it was obvious from the stains it had been that way for a while also the shower didn't give a constant temperature so getting it on a comfortable setting was impossible. Lastly the wireless reception was useless unless I sat by the door I couldn't get a connection so I ended up getting a lan cable for my computer but had to use my roaming data for my phones.
I often stay at Ibis on my business trips. Ibis is almost the same everywhere, but one thing that makes the difference here at Ibis Muscat is the front desk. Thumbs up for the staff at the reception. especially Mohamad and Francis, who are so cordial and make you feel welcomed all the time. One thing that they need to pay attention is on a better wifi service in the rooms. The wifi is not stable and slow.
I have stayed at this IBIS on numerous occasions. I return because the staff at the front desk are superb. Francis sets the tone/standard but he is ably supported by Mohammed, Habib (now in training) and others. Impressions in the service industry are created by the first encounter and mine at this hotel are always worthy of mention. After many hours/days on the road, the reception staff at this hotel always reassure me I have made the correct choice. Why hotels don't assign their most agreeable and professional staff to the front desk is beyond me!
The guy who checked me in during the night shift was amazing! Guy who checked me out was terrible. He let people push in front of me whilst I was trying to checkout. Checkout for gold Accor members is 4pm but I received three calls to get before 1pm. So I did. Only to wait in the lobby and have people push in front. The receptionist guy saw they guy push in front but I think it's a race thing. He didn't care. Internet is terrible. Bed was comfortable. Seemed like new showers. 3 stars is being generous
My husband works in Oman during the week and as such, I am writing this review on his behalf. During his stay, he returned to his hotel room which he requested to change due to the poor internet / wi-fi connection. Despite my best efforts, I researched the hotel on TripAdvisor before he went to work in Oman but the Company he works for provided the accommodation at this hotel. My husband had already been checked in for several days and on one occasion, another couple of guests had arrived and were attempting to open the door of my husband's hotel room. He opened it and they sincerely apologised and it was quickly determined the hotel staff had given the couple the wrong key! What is fundamentally flawed with this hotel is their internet / wi-fi connection. WE knew it was bad, based on the reviews, but we didn't think it was woeful altogether!!! Working expats skype their wives and families......the internet was so bad in the room that my husband had to sit in the lobby to get some sort of wi-fi / internet connection. The PROBLEM here is that all the locals and non-staying (aka non-paying guests) can avail of the unsecured free wi-fi. So if you plan on travelling here for work, this is not the place for doing any business or emailing commercial or contractual documentation! And because the lobby is packed with the free-loaders the internet speedtest is dire.....he recorded this as 0.02 download! I have attached a photograph he took of the speedtest results during his stay!! We have 33.64 Megabits download at home (that's a fairly decent level). My husband spoke to Farhan Mizza and explained and complained how bad the internet was. Mr Mizza just re-iterated what I had read previously on TripAdvisor....'we are working on it'....'we are aware of the problem...blah blah blah.' It seemed this man hadn't grabbed the concept of unsecured or password-protected wi-fi access and the significance of that for paying guests. So if you are a local, this is great place to hang out in the lobby, download all your movies and play on your phones because they were all doing it! For the western expat who is there to work....best calling the family at work because your MIA in the IBIS! Save the hassle and go to another hotel!!! Irrespective if your Company has provided the accommodation here, you can check-out from here and still claim your accommodation allowance for a better hotel in the vicinity!
Excellent place for family holidays, clean, good ambiance, friendly staff, good food. Everyone at the hotel made us feel at home. Special thanks to Mr.Sunil for his personal service at the restaurant (made us feel at home). While Mr.Samir at the reception is a great source of information and advice on how to get to know Oman, thanks a lot Samir for arranging the Dolphin watching trip. All in all Ibis Muscat is a home away from home. I will be back soon, Inshallah.
A perfect hotel when travelling on a budget and don't want to compromise in quality. The hotel is conveniently located close to the main roads of Muscat and has a small parking garage. The room was in perfect size, just like the bathroom. The room also featured a small refrigerator. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The only down side was the wifi coverage in the room, we only had wifi access if we were close to the hallway door.
Stayed for 1 night. The room was a standard double room which was very compact. The double bed was comfortable but the pillows felt like an air pillow. Didn't see the room with twin beds but if available i would go for it. The bathroom was very compact but absolutely clean, Could do with better water pressure in the shower. The buffet breakfast was basic but good. Over all a comfortable stay. The basement parking is compact too. Difficult to manoeuvre big SUV's. Drove from neighbouring UAE and made last minute online booking. Close to malls and many casual dining restaurants.
I state in this hotel for almost a month a lot to say highlights can b its a decent hotel pretty basic staff is good and cooperative albe restaurant only and smoking rooms on first floor rooms are celan and small and ul staff is eficient as well
This hotel was booked by Oman air when a stopover was extended due to a missed connection. Great staff, well organised and well looked after. Free wifi, good buffet food provided. Would happily use again
