Great option if you want to be on the beach. It also has a very nice pool (loved the swim up bar). Not that close to tourist locations, although there are plenty of taxis (about 20 minute ride to most tourist locations). Lobby is beautiful. Rooms were a good size, and service was very good. The concierge were very helpful in person, but I tried to arrange an excursion before I got there by email and I had to follow up multiple times before they would respond.
We were a group of 8 adults and two toddlers on a family vacation. Having lived in Muscat in the past and being Hyatt club members we chose the Hyatt based on past experience and location (beside the beach and within walking distance to local cafes and shops (20 minutes along the beach)). We had an early arrival but were given 2 rooms immediately and had a short wait for the other two, the staff were friendly and helpful. The pool is great but we spent most of our time in the ocean, there are plenty of sun loungers on the grass by the beach for easy access between the hotel and beach. The rooms are large and clean. The buffet breakfast is huge, varied and the service was great. Dominic D'Costa the recreation manager was especially helpful, friendly and made sure our stay and the pool/gym facilities were always fantastic and made our stay really memorable. The other person that really stood out and made our stay truley special and memorable (we were celebrating 2 big birthdays) catering to all of our needs was Dushyantha Tittawella the food and beverage manager. He organised everything we needed and went out of his way to make our stay really special. He is a massive asset to the Hyatt and we were so grateful to him. I highly recommend the Hyatt, especially a family with children, it has everything you need and we met great people. We look forward to returning.
Worst possible welcome from a hotel. We walked in to the grand lobby and the first thing to happen was a security guard coming over and telling us abruptly to not film. Then we checked in. Turns out that breakfast was not included. I went back to check expedia and none of the rooms by default include breakfast! Never have I been to hotel which didn't do this. It wasnt even an optional add on at the time of booking. It was hidden in the charges section at the bottom of the page. Pathetic. Why would any respectable 5* hotel not offer breakfast included. The photo saga continued. One person said we can take pictures on mobile phone only but no videos. Then 2 steps later another person says we cannot take any pictures at all. The staff here definitely make you feel unwanted. Avoid the Hyatt and go somewhere where the staff are friendlier/not so rude.
I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights last week. The hotel is located on the beach and it has good beach access. Fantastic for the morning walk. The food was very good. The beach bar did not have draught beer. Bottled beer was not chilled. The meeting room was good but the AC control was not good. Too cold or too hot.
Having just returned from a weeks stay at The Grand Hyatt & after reading such mixed reviews I felt I needed to share my experience & what a great experience we had. Myself & my mother booked for a week in the sunshine back in January & having read such mixed reviews, we didn’t know what to expect but we are so glad we booked! We arrived 10:30am on the Saturday expecting to be told the room wasn’t ready but it was & we were helped with our cases straight down to our room. The loony itself is magnificent & well worth a coffee in the lounge area - the lobby is on level 3 & our room was on level 2 - the hotel itself is a bit of a maze but once you get used to it, you are fine. The pool area is lovely however it does get all shaded by early afternoon so each day we went in the garden area on the grass - the sunbeds there are just as comfortable! It’s very easy to get the towels from by the pool you just need to sign a sheet with your room number on. The pool bar seemed a little slow in service but that’s because they were always busy. The pool itself was lovely & warm & the lazy river was a great touch. Access to the beach was really good you literally just walk out back of pool area & you are on top of the beach. The breakfast variety was great - we both really enjoyed the egg station in particular. Tuscany Italian restaurant we booked in one evening but we struggled for anything we really liked aside from pizza - it didn’t even have lasagne on the menu but we still both really enjoyed our pizza & my pudding was wonderfully presented. Safari Grill - we booked here twice & both times had a lovely meal. I definitely recommend trying this restaurant it’s like an all in food & drink for one price. The Habana sports bar was great we were welcomed there most nights & enjoyed the pub food & we even took part in the quiz one night (we came last but it’s all fun). The John Barry bar was great - you can sit outside or inside with a great choice of drinks on the menu & the entertainment was good also. I would throughly recommend this hotel to anyone! The staff were very friendly everyone had a smile & couldn’t do enough for you! FABULOUS!
We booked a club room which turned out to be excellent value for money. The room was large with a nice view overlooking the garden and pool and onto the beach. The club longe served wonderful food and drinks at tea time and then between 6_8pm canapés and drinks which meant we didn’t have to eat out at all and the drinks flowed which saved us money (a glass of presscco was £14 in the bar ). The breakfast buffet had everything you could think of and more! With the restaurant having a seating area outside overlooking the garden it was a great start to the day. The pool bar area looked tired and need of some t .l.c but apart from that I would recommend this hotel.
Overall a very good hotel. The breakfast and lunch buffet is amazing - Really fresh food and plenty of choice, fantastic! The rooms could do with a bit of an upgrade, compared to the rest of the facilities, they are a bit dated and basic. Location on the beach is great. The water in the pool was very cloudy.
This place blew me away! The downstairs lobby is something out of an art museum. The food was fantastic and the staff very friendly. This place should be on your list to stay or at least visit if you are in Muscat.
We live local but decided to make weekend of it as we were going to The St Patrick's Day Ball in the hotel. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food at the ball was the best we have had at any of the balls in Muscat. Friday brunch selection and quality was great. The kids loved the food and play areas (indoor and outdoor). The only let down was our room. Great size but all the fixtures and fittings were looking very dated.
For those considering an evening pre-game or post dinner aperitif, the John Barry is the answer. We’ve had the pleasure of visiting Oman and the Grand Hyatt on a number of occasions, but only recently discovered the John Barry after extensive renovations. The bar is named after the SS John Barry, which is worth some independent research on the history that involves the sinking and salvage efforts. The ambiance is perfect, with subdued lighting and plenty of room for conversation — and outdoor seating to facilitate a good cigar. (Plenty of choices in that category, either from the bar selection or shops within the hotel.) But the real attraction for us over the past several stays has been Valentin, the lead bartender and purveyor of beautifully hand-crafted cocktails, featuring a variety of custom ingredients. Aged-gin, barrel aged negronis, and custom tinctures are the order of the evening (pictured), and definitely worthy of exploring. We highly recommend both the Grand Hyatt and the John Barry if one is considering a visit to Muscat. This is an iconic venue, and how often can one relax for afternoon tea under the shade of a falconer horseman statue?
