We only spent one night in The Gordon House Hotel but we couldn’t fault it. Our room was large, comfortable, quiet and spotlessly clean. I agree with some previous posts that the bathroom could do with a bit of TLC but that didn’t bother us. It’s in an amazing location, right in the heart of Colaba - walking distance to all the local sites, restaurants and bars. It’s quite a drive from the airport but worth it. Staff are really friendly and helpful and breakfast was delicious. We used the nearby gym facilities too which are handy and only a 5/10 minute walk away. No complaints and would definitely stay again if we’re back in Mumbai!
We stayed for three nights and the hotel is in a great location for exploring Mumbai. The staff were helpful - there was some confusion around an early morning taxi booking and someone from the hotel kindly found one nearby for us. We really enjoyed the breakfast buffet and the service in the restaurant was excellent. We were pleased with our room and housekeeping. Overall, a very good stay!
Nice hotel, good staff. Like previous posts, try to get a room on 3rd floor as the nightclub gets a bit loud till 1.30. Bed very hard and bathrooms tiny, but all well maintained and managed. Breakfast ok.
I stayed 4 nights at the Gordon House during a recent visit to Mumbai when my usual hotel jacked up its rates to nose bleed level. The Gordon House was close by and while a bit lower down the star scale still mostly fitted my needs. I was given a room on the 4th floor which is touted as the "Scandinavian" floor. I am not sure what that means apart from having a blonde wood floor but being higher and at the back of the building meant little or no street noise which is always a bonus in Mumbai. On one night I returned after midnight to be greeted with unbelievably loud music and shouting from the hotel bar which is on a mezzanine off the entrance and was then very surprised to find no noise audible once I reached my room. The room was a good size with a king size bed that was far too hard for my preference. It also had a desk and chair, armchair and closet and a minibar and kettle with tea-making supplies. The bathroom was the downside. So small that I had to sidle past the door to get to the toilet and the shower had a glass panel with an almost uncomfortably small entry gap. The bathroom (but not the bedroom) also required a bit of tender loving care with many chipped tiles and marks in the grout. On the other hand there was a good shower with plentiful hot water. There was also a good and very reasonably priced laundry service. The wifi worked well all the time after the first log-in. There were a couple of short power cuts which is common everywhere in India but nothing that was really inconvenient and I suspect that there is a generator tucked away somewhere to cover any prolonged outage. I had dinner in the restaurant the first night and breakfast there each day. Dinner was disappointing in that they specialize in fairly mediocre non-Indian food but breakfast offered a range of cooked to order India dishes with a particularly good masala dosa. The staff in general ranged from uninterested to very helpful. Oddly, after each service such as recommending a local service provider or finding a cab the staff member asked for my room number even when I was sitting at the checkin desk. What is that about? The bell man at the front door was particularly helpful. Overall, the Gordon House is in a convenient area with good room rates and the standard and services are what you would expect from a 3 star hotel.
I stayed here for 1 night stay on a business trip. The hotel is converted from an old house into a good hotel. I would summarize my experience as follows: PROS: 1. Smooth check-in and checkout. 2. Clean and tidy rooms (though a bit small in size) 3. Comfortable bed, sleep. 4. Awesome breakfast and dining space. 5. Perfect location (close to gateway of india). CONS: 1. Very small bathroom/Toilet. 2. Fairly small rooms, though neat and tidy. 3. Don't expect family entertainment. This is for business travellers. I made a good deal though makemytrip app. Overall experience is very good.
This place is located in Colaba and the rooms are designed on Scandinavian style decor but do not match up to it. There is no gym or swimming pool. The view from the rooms is pathetic which looks into other apartments. The bathrooms are cramped. During the night the music from adjacent bar knocks on your ears. They get limited editions of Newspapers and you have to read in the lobby or the restaurant. Staff is courteous and the breakfast menu is average with limited spread. The restaurant serves Chinese food for dinner and if you need to eat Indian food you must have in your room only - racism in this age!!!! Overall not a very good experience.
We stayed 3 nights in one of the Scandinavian rooms. Simply decorated, but every need catered for.......tea and coffee making, robe and slippers, daily newspaper, toiletries etc. And the best shower of the trip! Many choices for breakfast, and helpful staff. (Try the Dosa). Step out of the front door and Colaba is on your door step. Leopolds In one direction and the Taj Hotel and the Gateway, the other. After a day of walking around the World Heritage sites you can wander back to the hotel's Havana Bar, for bar food and cheap beer, and a live band or DJ.
The Gordon House Hotel, located behind Regal Cinema, Colaba Mumbai is a 4 star heritage property with European styled themed rooms - Mediterranean, Country and Scandinavian themes on each of the 2nd ,3rd and 4th floor, a meeting room on the top floor , a Havana themed pub and a fine dining Oriental cuisine restaurant on the 1st and ground floor respectively. The property has a overall casual and pleasant vibe to it located centrally among the guzzling busy Colaba Causeway market. And that's the main advantage of staying in this property. The reception is located on the second floor and check-in was smooth. The manager briefed us about the history of the property and the limited option for up gradation of the exterior due to it's heritage status. Our two night stay was booked on the third floor which had the European country themed rooms. The room was neat, spacious and had a good amount of storage with wardrobes and shelves. Bathroom was pretty much dated, with a very small shower space. The doors needed urgent refurbishment as the bottom and corners had peeled off. Apart from the disappointment with the bathroom area, the rest of the room was cleverly done with good spacious and colorful interiors. View from the room has just the nearby hotel and office complex, in short nothing great. Also, better soundproofing is required as one can hear the faint music noise the DJ is churning at their pub. Room tip: ask for rooms on the fourth floor, avoid rooms on second floor! The buffet breakfast was good, but was made to order, my guess being, due to few guests, which is fair as it avoids wastage of food which is crucial. The menu items was limited and had the usual fare from south Indian dosas to continental breakfast of eggs, sausages, sandwiches etc. Fruit platter and a doubtfully fresh cold counter is also there. Quantity, quality of the made to order menu items was good. Twice during our stay we had ordered dinner from their Pan Asian restaurant All Stir Fry. The food quality was surprisingly average considering the good reviews on the various online platforms. Overall, I would rate this property a 3.5 which is fair considering the pros and cons of the stay experience. Staff is pleasant, courteous but not experienced enough. The property is managed by the MARS group which also has the flagship Ambassador property under their banner and many other well known brands too, I guess my expectations had raised a bar due to this. Nevertheless, the Gordon House Hotel is a good and decent recommendation for a short and casual / bizz stay due to their excellent location and spacious rooms.
Tastefully done Room Decor An eye for details for everything inside the room and the washroom The hotel is located in the heart of South Mumbai just behind the Gate Way & The Taj Hotel on one side and Regal Cinema on the other side. Comfortable and immaculately clean room. This is not my first visit and definitely not my last either and I always look forward to a stay at Gordon House.
Its a cozy hotel located in the most prime of the locations, i.e. Colaba, and just about 300m from Gateway of India. The room was spacious, we were 4 people (2 adults, 2 kids). The hotel staff was courteous. All Stir Fry restaurant was also very good, food was delicious, the restaurant staff was very friendly. Overall a big thumps up to the hotel. I'd love to stay here even during my future trips.
