Mercure Hotel Trier Porta Nigra4.0 out of 5.0

This hotel is in the center of Trier. You can walk across the street through the arch of Porta Nigra to the main shopping area of Trier, which has good restaurants and shops. The reception staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel was typically German (that is not a complaint), and the bedroom was quite sparse, but clean, with a duvet on each bed. The bathroom was modern and clean. We parked for a fee in the basement of the hotel, which was very convenient. Our room came with a breakfast buffet which was quite good and European in style.
We had a beautiful view of the Porta Nigra! If you want to see Roman Ruins, this is the place to go and the hotel at which to stay! We loved it! The hotel location was so convenient, and the staff was very pleasant.
I forgot a jacket at the nearby dry cleaner's and they picked it up and sent it to me, no problems. Very professional staff that speaks English well and was cordial and helpful throught my stay. Thanks!
Visited Trier on many occasions but first time in this hotel. Overall very good but despite having 2 superior rooms they were both ready for some general refurbishment. Staff were excellent and location perfect for both city and surrounding area exploring
The hotel itself is located ideally for touring the city centre, as it sits just across the street of Porta Nigra and the main pedestrian area of the town. We arrived early knowing that it was unlikely to check-in, but completed the in-processing before twelve and agreed to be back at three when the room supposedly is available. Surprise it was not. Good planning skills.
The hotel has good location, with parking facilities, right in the centre of town. The only drawback is that there is only one lift (elevator) going to the basement (carpark) so you might be obliged to change lifts in the lobby. In general, go
Nothing negative to say here. In pole position for the main sights, the hotel is modern and clean with a decent carpark either above or below ground. Staff were very friendly, helpful and courteous. Room was clean and comfortable enough and some overlook the Porta Negra itself (ours didn't but hey ho) All in all good value and I'd stay there again when next in Trier
Mercure is an Accor property and we love their Sofitel brand so we selected this based on that and it's location. Although it is rated 4 stars the view to Porta Nigra right across the street is 5 star. Our room on the 4th floor looked right at it. The room was a decent size with a nice bathroom and lots of storage but the internet was impossibly slow, worse than the old dial up access. Other than that we had a nice stay.
We spent two nights here. It was fine. The desk service was very helpful and always pleasant. The room was big. We had a great view of the Porta Nigra. It was quiet at night. It was only a 10 minute walk from both the train station, and to the center of downtown Trier. We needed to be close to the train station, so this place worked well for us. A couple things: it's an older hotel and it had a very odd smell when we were there. I think they pump in perfume or maybe it's their cleaning supplies, but the odor was pretty strong for me and my sister had a hard time sleeping because of it. Also, the beds were hard. Harder than all the others we had on our two week trip.
We selected this hotel to enjoy a dinner in teh restaurant facing the Porta Nigre. But upon arrival we were told that the restaurant wass closed because of no sufficient reservations, but we could still et in the Add to bar/coffeshop which also faces the porta nigre. When we showed up at this place we were told it was fully booked even that several tables were not dressed. Thanks to the help of th frontdesk w could find nice restaurant. Funny, when we cam back the same tables were still undressed - I guess the hotel assigns tables base on the basis of available personnel and not base on customer needs. The room was super though, but breakfast not so good with scrambled eggs totally dried out
