Mercure Hotel Trier Porta Nigra

As always this hotel affords excellent service from its staff. Rooms are large and clean. However do not stay on the top floor in winter/spring when outside temperatures fall. The heating system is old and cannot adequately heat many rooms on this floor. This happened to myself and family in Dec 2012, was ok in Dec 2014 when temperatures were higher than average, but happened again for our visit 16/12/2016-18/12/2016.

Trier is a secret gem of Germany. Trier's history dates back to the 4th century BC but the city's 1st century Roman history is amazing. Mercure Hotel Trier Porta Nigra is just across the road - less than 100m from the Porta Nigra and the old part of the city. The hotel is also an easy walk (with luggage) from the railway station. We stayed two nights and wish we had stayed longer; in both Trier and the hotel. Our room was large, very clean and comfortable; perhaps not 5 star luxury but certainly 4 star top quality. The view from our room of the Porta Nigra, especially at night however, was 10 star !! All the staff were very friendly, cooperative and knowledgeable. Breakfast was very good with a wide range of hot and cold dishes. We ate dinner both nights in the hotel bistro/restaurant and were very happy with both the food and the cost. Special mention should be made of the two very nice ladies who served us, despite some language difficulties, their service was excellent. We can Definitely Recommend the Mercure Hotel Trier Porta Nigra.

We had three nights at this hotel. Very well situated for shops,Christmas market and the various historical places. Large car park under the hotel and a small outside car park at the rear. You need to get a ticket from reception. Very clean and an excellent room with good facilities and a modern bathroom. We had a good view of the Porta Negra and were therefore on the main road but there was little traffic noise. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was buffet style with good choices. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

I must say, service was great however internet connectivity was poor. Having in mind that i booked Priviledge room, I was hoping to have fast speed connection but instead I had problems with breaking connection very often. Water in bath was not as hot as I thouht it could be.

If you are looking for a nice hotel for a trip to Trier this is a good choice. There is a public parking garage under the hotel which allows visitors the opportunity to enter the hotel without getting exposed to the elements. This is a special treat when dealing with luggage and hoping to avoid the cold, harsh German weather. There is a bar and reception on the main level and the restaurant is on the second floor. Very nice hotel conveniently located just across from the Porta Nigra and pedestrian shopping area. I found it kind of odd that you were required to put in 0,50 in a vending box on the bathroom door to gain access to the toilet. This is kind of odd for a hotel but is common in public restrooms in Germany. Thanks for reading this review. Hope you found it helpful.

We stayed here three nights on a Xmas Markets break, Rooms a good size and clean, Meals were buffet style and plenty of variety to suit all tastes. However the real bonus is the staff, who could not do enough for us and always very polite, even when faced with some awkward customers. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return someday.

We stayed here for two nights. Room and service were great. We were here a part of our vacation and we met family from Germany there. Close to all the tourist areas, shopping, and great restaurants. Staff was also very helpful.

We are only 1 night in of our 3 night stay in the Mercure Porta Nigra in Trier. Trier itself is a wonderful small city, with so much history it is almost too much for me to handle ;-) The hotel itself is comfortable, really well located, but the thing that made us , a large family group of 8 (including 2 children and a very curious toddler) feel most relaxed, are the poeple we have encountered in the hotel so far. All of them have been nice and friendly and really people focused - and those most important of all words to any hotel guest - NO PROBLEMS - WE WILL TAKE CARE OF IT, said by all of the staff. I must say, the Mercure has the right people in the right place!

My room was in front of Porta Nigra which is the symbol of Trier. So, the view was really good. The breakfast was also satisfied and great service! Want to stay there again.

Another very enjoyable stay at the Mercure Porta Nigra; comfortable room and excellent view. Staff very friendly and helpful as always; it is always a pleasure to stay here when we are visiting the area.
