The Hotel is located opposite the Porta Nigra. A stunning view from our window everyday! Within easy walking distance all Trier has to offer be it Roman or otherwise. Car Parking is chargeable, it was 11 euros for 24 hrs when we stayed, the Car Park is adjacent to the rear of the Hotel and accessed either by the side of the hotel or down a side street. It is a public car park but on the lower floors there is a lift to the Hotel. The welcome at reception was very pleasant, checked in and in our rooms in under 10 mins. Our room was at the front so we did have the great view of the roman gate. It is a busy road outside but with the windows closed you didn't notice. The room itself was comfortable, TV,WiFi, tea/coffee making facilities (not sure about the paper cups though, would have preferred a china mug but that's being picky). Plenty of storage space. If anything for us the room could have been a bit cooler, it was very hot. There is perhaps a need for a refurb particularly in the bathrooms but that didn't detract from our stay. The room was clean. The bathroom had complimentary toiletries. We only ate breakfast at the hotel but this was excellent, a wide variety of choice, good value we thought. And the view from the restaurant is of the Gate, again a fantastic view. Every member of staff we encountered was pleasant, helpful and appeared to enjoy their job. Overall a very good hotel.
next to porta nigra and to the town center. modern hotel with clean rooms. very friendly staff. free wifi. good variety at breakfast. very delicious food at bistro bar with nice enviroment and very kind and helpful staff.
Hotel is very well located to visit the city. In front of Porta Nigra en few meters away of Karl Marx strasse. Hotel needs freshing up. Bar old fashioned but staff very friendly. Food very nice. Prices for wine a little bit to high.
Hotel location across road from Porta Nigra could not be bettered. Also within easy walking distance of most of the other Roman related attractions in Trier. Room was very comfortable and cleanliness standard excellent. I did not eat in the Hotel but the restaurant looked inviting. One of the better Mercure Hotels in Germany that I have stayed in.
Stayed here for two nights. The hotel is absolute opposite the porta nigra and the room had a view over the porta. Nice but expensive breakfast. Parking 11 euro per night. No gym or spa which was a -.
Wow what a view of Porta Nigra from the extremely large rooms. We spent 2 nights here in October and would definitely return. All of Trier is within walking distance and the staff extremely helpful. The rooms are very well appointed with a small fridge and tea and coffee making facilities.
Wonderful hotel and room with a view of the roman gate. Easy access to the town square and restaurants. Unable to find any faults Excellent breakfast and very helpful staff Would visit again only if we could have the same accomadion
The hotel was very nice, the stuff was very kind and helpful .The room was clean and the view was wonderful so there is nothing to complain about . Just get a room with the view to Porta Nigra and you will be happy
If you say at this hotel, make sure you book a room that overlooks the Porta Nigra. This should be your main reason for staying here. I was very impressed by my Privilege room that overlooked the Roman gatehouse. The rest of the sights are a 10-20 minute walk away, including the river boats and Roman baths and amphitheatre. It's also less than 10 minutes from the main train station. My room was very comfortable, though the air conditioning could have been a bit more efficient. The breakfast service was good. It could be busy, but I always found a table and there was a good choice of hot and cold buffet items and prompt service of tea and coffee. I also chose to eat in their street level cafe bar a few times. A wide choice of food and drink on the menu. Not that expensive and very friendly staff. Although the hotel doesn't look that special from the outside, it's a very good base for a visit to Trier.
Big thank you to the Mercure Trier. I visit a lot of hotel and this one stood out. Firstly the hotel staff were helpful and efficient. I arrived at 945 at night as my train was delayed and they kept the restaurant open till I finished even though I offered to take the food to my room. I needed a wake up call, an iron early morning and then a taxi to get to the station, I was all organised like clockwork in the morning. The rooms overlook the Porta Nigra and this is as central to the city of Trier as you can get. great location and with service to back it.
