Wayside Inn

We had a lovely room with a corner fireplace that was cozy and comfortable. Breakfasts each day were served in the room and were delicious.

Rooms very small, but comfortable. No air conditioning, so, if the weather is warm, the rooms are are warm. Windows do open, letting cool air in. However, noise from the street, breaks your sleep. Breakfast is quite good good.

The room was modern and comfortable with full conveniences.

The Wayside Inn was a great place to stay while enjoying the lovely town of Carmel and local attractions such as Big Sur and the monterey aquarium. The room was spacious, clean, and quiet, and very nicely decorated. We were a family of four (all adults) staying in one room with two queen beds, and we were quite comfortable. The room has a small food prep area with a fridge plus a sink and countertop, which came in handy as we like to prepare veggies and fruit and other snacks to carry with us. There is a coffee maker and a toaster in the room as well. Breakfast is simple (fruit, juice, pastries, toast) and is delivered to the room; actually, when you order toast, the bread is sent to the room with butter and jam, and you can toast it yourself. We are fans of freshly made toast and we liked that set-up. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Guests of the Inn receive a discount at many restaurants in Carmel, and we took advantage of that a few times. The location is right in the heart of the town, with shops and restaurants close by. I can't think of anything else we could have asked for!

Great location in Carmel. We were given a huge room with two comfortable queen beds. Nice decor and linens, but it wouldn't take much more effort to make this a nicer hotel. The fan in the bathroom ran constantly and loudly when the light was on, the room was poorly heated with a baseboard radiator and the room never got warmer than 68 degrees. While the room price includes a continental breakfast, the quality of the experience did not support a $250/night room rate. While the staff was very friendly and their service was good, I would return only if the room rate was substantially lower.

We had a very pleasant stay in Downtown Carmel.. Lots of shopping and great restaurants nearby, as well as a beautiful beach in walking distance. Very enjoyable experience.

Every other month I make it a point to take a mini getaway. I love the Carmel coast with it's breath taking beaches, so Carmel it was! When we arrived we were pleasantly surprized, Wayside Inn has a ton of gorgeous flowers around the entire face of the building, the staff was very polite and personal, the facility is not huge like a Holliday Inn, there are only a handful of rooms. Everything felt personal. The rooms were fantastic, the decor had a warm country theme, it was very clean and well stocked. They even had chilled wine glasses and bottles of water in the fridge for you. The only thing we didn't like was that there wasn't a microwave in the room which was kind of strange since we had a fridge and a cofee maker. We were thrilled when a continental breakfast and a newspaper was delivered to our door in a cute little nylon cooler courtesy of the hotel, they just leave it there and you get it whenever you're ready. The best thing was the location! It was a block from Mission Ave where we were dilighted to find the Art and Film Festival in full swing. Everything was in walking distance, novelty shops,a park, a shopping plaza with somewhat pricey clothig, but wonderful free concerts! Wayside Inn will definitely be my first choice when I return! Did I mention that the parking was free and the beach was very close!

We enjoyed this location the very best. Access to GREAT restaurants and shopping and a short walk to the sea. We felt this was the best location of the many we have stayed in the last 20 years of going to Carmel. We would appreciate it if the person playing basketball (sounded like it) in the room above us, would choose to practice on the court instead of above our heads, but that is our only complaint..room was so comfy and clean otherwise.

The hotel is charming from the outside but the inside is outdated and somewhat dingy. The beds were clean and fairly comfortable but all the other surfaces were full of dust and grime. We were traveling with a baby and we had to purchase our own cleaning supplies to adequately clean the room. Also, the rooms are extremely small and stuffy. The one bright side is that the hotel is very centrally located to downtown Carmel and everything was within walking distance.

The Wayside Inn was a wonderful discovery and we will definitely book a room there again. The room was lovely, beds were comfortable and quiet. We appreciated having a coffeemaker and refrigerator in the room and what a treat each morning when we found a cooler outside our door with a newspaper tucked in the side pocket. Inside the cooler was a number of breakfast items . . . cereal, rolls/muffins, yogurt, milk and juice. It was like Christmas every morning checking out the treats packed within. We were able to leave our car at the inn and walk one block to the main street of Carmel. Restaurants and shops were close by. Returning to the Wayside Inn, we enjoyed freshly baked chocolate chip cookies in the afternoon. We look forward to a future stay at the Wayside Inn. Everyone was so nice and professional!
