Coachman's Inn, A Four Sisters Inn

We liked our large room on the third floor in a quiet location, the very comfortable bed, welcoming staff, and the gas fireplace (cozy on a chilly night). The provided breakfast had something for everyone, with fresh fruit and juices as well as an egg dish every morning. The wine and appetizers in the evening were delicious also; we enjoyed the fresh vegetable tray and various dips. While Carmel is pricey, the location of the inn means one can walk to all sorts of restaurants and we think, given the amenities, the inn is good value, at least in the off season. The bathroom is rather old fashioned, but very clean. A fridge is provided, as well as a coffee maker. The only niggle: there is no desk space in the room, and these days everyone wants to set up a laptop with a desk chair--at least we do. We set up our lap top on a low coffee table and sat in front of it in a very low chair. Result: an aching back. The room is large enough to set up an inexpensive side desk and chair. Are you listening, Coachman's Inn? Those with mobility issues should request a room on the parking level or main floor, since the steps are very steep and there is no elevator, although staff did offer to help with bags.

We are not first timers here. We come annually for Thanksgiving. Perfect location. Park the car on Wednesday afternoon. and not move it until we leave Saturday morning . Close to all restaurants and shopping. Rooms are large and comfortable with fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Tasty snacks and wine at cocktail time and impressive breakfast. Yummy cookies in lobby in the afternoon. Staff is friendly and has lots of helpful information. We always look forward to staying at this hotel and have never been disappointed,

Small but beautifully formed little hotel. The old woman on reception could either try to be more knowledgeable about the local area or consider retiring! The young lady on reception is fabulous. Great rooms, parking available and smack in the centre close to all the restaurants.

My wife and I recently spent we spent a leisurely 5 days driving from San Francisco to LA primarily following Highway 1. We spent 2 nights in Carmel-by-the-Sea at the Coachman’s Inn , 1 night at The Cavalier Oceanside Resort in San Simeon, one night at The Castillo Inn in Santa Barbara and 2 nights at the Hilton Checkers in downtown LA. I have posted more detailed, separate reviews for each place we stayed. At The Coachman’s Inn we had a large, comfortable King Room with a fireplace. Very quiet location on the top (3rd) floor. If mobility is an issue be aware that they don’t have elevators and there’s no one to help carry bags. The room had all the amenities you would expect - coffee maker, plastic & glass glasses, decent hair dryer, lots of fluffy towels - and a very comfortable bed. Our only quibble about the room was the lack of a printed guide to detail television channels. Unfortunately the electronic guide on the TV itself gave no program schedule detailsso we had to scroll through all the channels to see what was on. And there were major gaps between channels. The room includes a very good breakfast buffet in a lounge adjacent to the lobby. Hot cereal, cold cereals, hard boiled eggs, a couple of omelette selections, fruit, toasters for bagels, raisin bread, English muffins. Coffee and juice. Afternoon wine and cheese was also included but we found the wines far too sweet for our liking. The desk staff couldn’t have been more helpful or welcoming. Same can be said for all the support staff. Previous reviews have commented on the scarcity of parking spaces. Our first night we had to park next to the front office on the street. Not a problem. But you need to move the car every 2 hours during the day after 10a. We moved ours on-site in the morning after it had emptied out and left it there the 2nd night. The Coachman’s Inn location is just a block off Carmel’s Main Street, Ocean, and you can walk everywhere in downtown Carmel, including the beach, in less than 5 minutes. Very good hotel, great location (although in truth it’s a 3-level high-end more than a hotel. I would give it 4 stars out of 5. We would stay again.

Enjoyed our stay at this Inn. Staff was very nice and were there to answer all of your questions. Conveniently located near the downtown area, we were able to walk to many of the shops, restaurants and wine tasting establishments. Hot breakfast was server - very good, capped off with evening appetizers and wine. Glad we stayed there.

We found this place and were very pleased that we did. The rooms are thoughtfully equiped and very clean. Our check in was friendly and easy. We felt very welcomed. Tea and coffee making in rooms. Multi leads for recharging iPads phones etc. two very comfortable arm chairs in the room. Just love it!

We booked this hotel as a last minute alternative to the Napa Valley as the fires were raging there. The very helpful staff at the Maison Fleurie in Yountville phoned us enroute and told us that the hotel was closed as it had lost power and arranged the booking at their sister property in Carmel. The Coachman Inn, is an older style property with wide public corridors outside the rooms so the windows need to be closed and drapes shut for privacy. There was no air conditioning and parking was limited in the courtyard. On the positive side the hotel was clean and the public areas were tastefully decorated. The breakfast was very good with a wide selection. There was a daily complimentary happy hour with local wine and snacks. The high point was the central location within 10 minutes walk of the main downtown shopping and close by all the trendiest restaurants. The cost of the rooms were very reasonable for this upscale town and seemed to take into account the physical limitations of the layout. We would stay here again so long as we were not travelling in the heat of the summer.

My husband and I stayed here for our 1st wedding anniversary. We had an absolutely lovely time. It was in a perfect location - close to all the action downtown and not too far from the water. The breakfast and wine and hors-d'oeuvres were very generous. Honestly, you could get away with eating that and a small lunch before dinner. I particularly loved sitting next to the fire in the lobby while sipping coffee in the morning and wine in the afternoon. We will stay again soon!

This Inn had it all - location, amenities, breakfast, friendly staff, clean. Would stay again in a heart beat. We switched from a Four Sisters property in Sonoma due to the fires. I only wish they were in states other than California!

A wonderful place ,location great Met by wonderful friendly staff check I .painless and wife request for top.floor room was accomadated with out a fuss Breakfast is lovely rooms wonderful even has hot tub and sauna available Wine and cheese in afternoons also very nice Would be a recommend to anyone who wishes to stay in area And all this a a great deal with rooms at a buy one night get second free. Only one small gripe Being we had travelled from England (uk) we had more luggage than most other visitor and found draws and hanging space limited.
