Our family of four (kids ages 11 &15), LOVED Gateway! Just a five hour drive west of Denver, it's a hidden gem! The location is absolutely incredible! It's owned by John Hendricks who also owns The Discovery Channel, TLC, and Animal Planet. We watched a couple shows in their theater from The Discovery Channel, we went on the horseback ride (great...thanks to Brian and his staff), and also went bike riding on their cruisers! Fun time all around. We had a cozy, big room, that was perfect for a family of four, with our own private hot tub. YES, spend the extra money, so fun! The best star gazing at night from your hot tub. The food was very good for the most part, until our last night's dinner. We only ate at Paradox. We had the ribs and they were terrible. First, they came out freezing cold, and we sent them back and then they came out and most of it was fatty. My husband and I couldn't eat them. We rarely complain about food, but it was unacceptable. We did explain the situation, but they didn't say anything. We felt the least they could do since we had dined non-stop there for two days, was to take them off the bill, but they didn't. The only other constructive criticism is that the servers, although EXCELLENT, were almost too attentive...they poured water so many times, that we could barely set our glasses down. It just felt a bit too hovering. I know that sounds critical, and I know it's a fine line between good service and bad, but we could barely have a private conversation. That was the most negative thing that happened at our stay here, but things can't be perfect! We loved it, and would just say for next time...do better on the ribs! DEFINITELY put this on your travel list of "things to see!"
We booked our stay at Gateway for a short getaway, assuming it would be a rather ordinary hotel stay. An upscale hotel, for sure, but still a hotel. Were we ever surprised! It is a sensational property located in a setting that rivals National Geographic photos. Everything about Gateway is geared toward a good experience for guests. Our room was lovely, very clean, and comfortable. The private patio with a fireplace was a delightful way to end each day. We enjoyed only two of the restaurants: Paradox Grill and Entrada, both of which served excellent food and wine. The staff at these restaurants are interns from other countries training in the hospitality industry. What a delight to visit with them!! Their enthusiasm is infectious and added so much to our stay. And, to watch how the permanent staff works with the students is a good lesson for adult educators everywhere. We are already planning our next visit to Gateway.
It was a Wonderful resort! Very nice pools and facilities. The concierge was very accommodating when the car museum was closed. They arranged a private tour for us. It was a great time a year to go not as crowded.
This place is amazing! It's located in a very remote, beautiful location. The resort itself almost seems to be carved out of the landscape. The staff made my stay a very personal experience that I will treasure forever! The Jeep tour with Mandy and the horseback riding with Brian were top notch!! Never a bad meal! Although only one restaurant was open (I stayed just prior to start of peak season), so the menu was limited, but everything was absolutely delicious! I even requested strawberries for the cheesecake and by the next day they had the strawberries!
The staff was A plus and the facility was very clean and well taken care of. We enjoyed our stay tremendously. The property has awesome views surrounding it. Spa services were excellent. We plan to go back as we had such a good experience!
This resort is in the most breathtaking canyon land, with a showcase view of The Palisade that simply can’t be beat. Gorgeous rooms with fireplaces and some with private hot tubs in their patios. We have been a number of times and each visit leads me to love this place more. It is a bit off the beaten path, but the drive is worth it! Enjoy the journey! Excellent restaurants, spa, pools, beautifully maintained grounds. Owned by the owner of the Discovery Channel...and it shows!
We always have a great time. It is nice to get away from the Denver city life and traffic. We will be coming back. The rooms are always clean and very spacious. The Paradox Grille has great food and a pleasant atmosphere. The wait-staff are professional and friendly.
We stayed here in October and we were so happy to have the grounds beautifully kept with ponds, background of the red rocks and spectacular beauty. It was so beyond our expectations. The rooms are wonderful and some have fireplaces and balcony's, which we did. We enjoyed room service, which is fantastic. The restaurants are great. We enjoyed our fireplace and balcony. They have concerts and events, so check to see what is happening on website. I would recommend this to anyone. It is isolate, so this is a destination resort. Plan to be here and enjoy what is offered.
Surprised my boyfriend on his birthday. He had never stayed here and was totally surprised and impressed! It was a marvelous stay - we would have stayed longer if we could have. We will come back for sure!
We came here, not knowing what to expect, and was blown away by the setting, the staff, and the activities. We were here in the “off season” but it was still so enjoyable! Wish there were more places open to eat, but that was not a disqualifier in the least. Our room had some temperature issues, but maintenance was responsive.
