Ibis centre gare is nice hotel just in the centre of city. Quite good location and friendly staff. Only minus point is for parking as they don’t have their own parking. But all in all it’s good deal with good value of money.
We had pre booked and paid for this hotel and arrived in the pouring rain at 5 pm otherwise I would not have stayed. We thought the lift was small until we entered the room! On the fourth floor with a small window and a ridiculous shelf unit that covered half of the open wardrobe. To be fair it was clean and the breakfast was surprisingly varied but I would never choose this hotel again. Car parking is in an underground public car park 100 yards away but it is a little difficult to find even with the map the hotel gave us. No restaurant but a one door away is a reasonable place called Jeep which was ok.
Outside, the hotel is just another old town building. As it is situated by the railway station, we really did not expect a good night's sleep. But it was quite pleasant in the end. The lobby is not very big and the elevator is a miniature one. The room was not very spacious, but well furnished and we did not really miss anything. The balcony was questionable, small, somewhat uncertain-looking, beat up, but there were flowers in the pot adorning it. And it enabled a wonderful view of the old tower, one of the characteristic sights of Metz, standing very close to the hotel. The bathroom was very comfortable. Traffic was quite heavy under our balcony and window. Although the windows were shaped in an old-fashioned way, really beautiful, they must have been glazed recently, because they kept out all the noise of the traffic. The room was air-conditioned (and the air-conditioning really worked!). We only had breakfast at the hotel and it was really good, with plenty of choice. As this is not really true of all French hotels, I was quite pleased with this one.
Good location nearby central train station, ideal place for walking to city centre. Helpfully staff offered one more blanket for us. Little bit expensive (11€/person) breakfast, but really rich buffet.
Whist I generally avoid the blandness of chain restaurants, I find that chain hotels are normally fine for a stay of one or two nights - when all I want is somewhere to sleep, shower and eat breakfast. And I do like the Accor chain - and particularly its Mercure and Ibis brands in France. This was fairly typical Ibis - good location near station; fair-sized comfortable room; shower that worked; acceptable buffet breakfast; well-trained receptionist; and a very fair price.
This is a nice little hotel in the centre of town - easy and pleasant walk to the cathedral. Easy parking close by. We arrived at about one o'clock in the morning, and still received a warm and friendly welcome. Beds very comfortable and shower excellent. All very clean. Also quiet.
Ibis Metz Centre Gare turned out to be a good choice for a three-nights sightseeing trip to this beautiful but understated city. As part of a family vacation, we booked several rooms, all of which were clean and relatively quiet. Mine was on the small side, though, and while advertised as a double room, two people would have had problems navigating the rather narrow space between bed and wall. The bathroom was smallish too. That said, the staff was very friendly and the breakfast good (for an extra charge). As others have mentioned, its a short walk to the Centre Pompidou, via an underpass beneath the railroad tracks, and 20 minutes on foot to the historic center (Place Saint Louis).
The location is excellent -- close to the train/bus stations, and within walking distance to Centre Pompidou, shopping, restaurants, and the old town. The breakfast buffet is also fantastic with lots of delicious options. The interior is quite outdated and shabby, with the lingering smell of years of smoke baked into the carpet and walls. It feels a bit like a roadside motel with a fancy facade. The bed was comfortable, but the walls are paper thin -- I could hear the distinct conversations of the people in the next room. As well the doors close loudly, so I was woken up several times by the sounds of doors being shut. I definitely needed to use my earplugs here -- not from sounds of the street, but from sounds inside. It's OK for the price, but I wouldn't be drawn to stay here again.
The hotel is well situated, close to the railway station. Rooms are fine and spacious and very quiet. The breakfast is also quite good. We stayed in a room for three people, very close to the elevator.
The hotel is within easy walking distance of pay for parking (at station) and the pedestrian area. Rooms are a good size, clean with good showers and internet. Public rooms adequate but can get full for breakfast. Typical Ibis breakfast, continental with option for boiled eggs, good coffee. Two minor issues bar no longer seems to sell 75cl bottles of wine, only 25cl; luggage drop off difficult if parking not available on Rue des Augustins as Rue Vauban at hotel entrance shares narrow road with buses. Gnerally good for a long weekend.
