Hotel Maria del Carmen Merida

3.0 out of 5.0

Recent guest reviews

The lady at the front desk was rude upon arrival. Luckily the bellhop was a lot kinder and helped us to our room (he also helped us with a car rental, which was very nice). The room is basic, except our comforter had lipstick stains on it and our bathroom was locked from the inside (so we had to wait 30 minutes for them to fix it in order to shower). There is a parking lot on site which is also a bonus (if you plan on driving there or renting a car). The elevator was junky and the pool was way too crowded and loud with kids, so we never used it. The hotel is about 3 or 4 blocks from the main plaza, so it's convenient and there is also a convenience store a few blocks away for necessities. Overall rated a 3 because it wasn't horrible but it wasn't very nice either... just middle of the road.

Awesome Hotel, for big groups!! nearby to five avenue and local atracctions!! BEST FOR THE VALUE

Hi, I start by I really loved this place and the staff were all wonderful despite my mal espanol. I do speak and communicate in Spanish at a level where I can have a basic conversation not perfect and badly constructed sentences but enough to get by. The hotel was clean and very functional it was not perfect though and I may see that some comments may reflect the few easily fixable issues this hotel has. There were a quite a number of Mosquitos on the ground floor of the hotel which were only in the extension to the Reception area (not the pool really or the restaurant so it only impacted me if I sat near the reception which I learned not to do.) There were minor cosmetic issues I mean dings, scrapes very small inclusions on the roof or walls but not really in my room and I saw they were renovating the room opposite me but I heard nothing. The pool was the BOMB!! They laid out towels for the guests on the sun loungers I thought at first they belonged to some other people and I had a hard time on that with my Spanish I did not know the word for sun lounger I was looking for Towels or a BIN not sun loungers with towels already claiming them but that was definitely my mistake and bad communications. Apart from that there was a 30 discount from hotel which made this place an absolute bargain and the additional 15 discount from the online vendors email marketing 24 hr sale and that includes the taxes, I would not hesitate to stay there again but I would ideally like a similar deal if off peak like my trip was but I would not expect the 15 discount again and if not I know it works for me and I had fun so I would stay there again probably regardless but I may also like just to try another place it fun but also fun to go back so a hard decision lol Note I am living in Cancun and the showers tended to not be very warm I find it fine as I have no heat for the water so I am used to a colder shower so heads up. I ran the pipes for a while so I could see that as being an issue.

The experience was great, good food, clean and friendly, not to mention a great beach, It's always a plus to have a great and relax place to stay for an affordable price.

The Maria del Carmen is located within comfortable walking distance to the main plaza downtown and is a step above many of the standard hotels we've found across Mexico. It is clean with a nice pool, restaurant and very nice staff.

Friendly staff, very helpful. Liked the americano breakfast and the pool has a 7ft deep end.

great location to centro plaza and government offices which was the nature of my buisness. Close to buses also. Great pool too!

Positives - Convenient location and descent amenities for the price Free parking and wifi Negatives - Some of the rooms are old May find Ants and Mosquitos in the room Have to keep the tap open for few minutes to get hot water

it was great. Staff went our of their way to help; room was very clean. restaurant prices were very resonable

this hotel is walking distance from bus station and 6 blocks far from Merida's main plaza. Its ok for the pice, big and clean rooms but needs an update real soon.

Clean and comfortable, though not luxurious, and best of all a great staff. Good choice if you are looking to stay in the colonial part of the city (and not out on Paseo Montejo which is full of tourists). Pool is large and clean, food at the restaurant is good. Lighted, guarded parking lot. Short walk to the square, sights and restaurants. Ask for a room on the pool side. Streets of Merida are very loud thanks to the many buses. Did I mention the great staff? Many thanks to all of them!

The bellman spoke English & was our communicator. Room 206 smelled terrible upon arrival. They brought a maid to clean the bathroom. It was better for a while & then began to smell again. We discovered a mothball repellant hanging under the face bowl. When removed sewer gas replaced that odor. We plugged the shower and face bowl to stop the smell. The next morning the maid was going to replace the mothballs and we stopped her. The plugs worked but major plumbing repairs are needed.

Clean,clean,clean, and very accomadating.

I stayed for 7 days. This hotel has two wings. What I'd call Wing 1, where I was put, has its windows looking out on an open-air passageway, so if you want privacy from guests passing by, you have to keep the curtains drawn. The room had no clock, no bureau to store my clothes, no hot water, ants crawling in the bathroom. Very tropical, but in February a little warm water to moderate the shower would have helped. I asked to be put in Wing 2 after speaking with some guests--privacy, hot water, a closet for clothes and no insects because the bathroom was sealed from outside; I was almost giddy. One downside to the location is that any streets you take to the zocalo are heavily polluted by the innumerable diesel buses running on every thoroughfare. A better area is Calle 59 up to about 53, and between 60 and 64--there are plenty of hotels there to choose from.

We just slept one day in this hotel. Our room is really good for cleanliness. The hotel is 10 min walk from ADO bus station. If you plan to travel by bus, this hotel is worth to choose.
