Have stayed here twice in the last few months and enjoyed my stay each time. The hotel is getting up in age but found the rooms to be clean and pleasant. The front staff was efficient and enjoyed chatting with the staff in the bar area. Found the location to be perfect with plenty to see and do within walking distance. While I am not a gambler there is a large casino across the street which offers lots of dining and drinking options. The hotel also sits on the Yarra river with again lots of dining and drinking spots. It is also very close to the Southern Star train station. Would not hesitate to stay again.
The room was excellent- quite small with exceptionally comfortable bed, good shower, responsive and quiet aircon and good lighting. Best of all I arrived early to drop off my bags and the helpful reception staff had a room available and let me go in early. It’s rare to be able to do that and it made my day so much more convenient.
We stayed here for 4 nights and found our stay to be very comfortable. Our room was spacious with a fantastic river view. Hotel was close to great shopping, restaurants, transport, the casino and DFO shopping. Would definitely stay here again.
My husband stayed a few days for a work conference and I went and met him on the weekend. The Location is fantastic. So close to South Wharf and the Convention Centre as well as Crown. Room was very nice, clean with good facilities. Found the particular room we were in quite small but other than it that was good. The weekend we were there there seemed to be s lot of kids running up and down the hallways and screaming which wasn’t ideal. Was an excellent room rate and the discounted parking made it really affordable. All in all a good stay and would return.
This is a nice hotel with excellent service, but I have never stayed at a hotel with food this bad. The first day I ordered food here, I asked to order off of the children's menu (which is ridiculously overpriced) and was given flack because I am an adult. I explained that I wanted something simple and small (i.e., chicken strips with chips and a side salad) and said that nothing on the main menu sounded appetizing to me, and I was allowed to order off of the childen's menu "just this once." With a tip and delivery to my room, it was over $30 for two soggy chicken strips, a hot and wilted salad, and a few chips. This evening, I decided to get something off of the regular menu and ordered a chicken Caesar salad and a glass of cab/shiraz. Again, the salad was hot and essentially wilted, the Caesar dressing tasted way too much of mayonnaise, the chicken was dry and overcooked, and even my wine tasted like it was from a bottle that was opened a month ago and had started to turn to vinegar. I discussed this conundrum with my husband, who had also ordered eggs Benedict for breakfast here a few days earlier, and he too agreed that the food was very disappointing. I don't mind spending money on good food, but the dishes they are serving here are truly embarrassing -- please revamp the menu or hire a new chef -- anything! It's crazy when you compare how bad the food is here to how excellent all of the local boutique restaurants around here are. I made the mistake twice, but I will never be dining in-house here again!
We booked the amazing King Skyline/Riverview Suite for 2 nights as a wedding anniversary celebration. Wow! From the 10th floor we had fantastic views across to the Crown Casino complex and city skyline. A great place to stay, close to everything we planned on doing for the weekend. The staff at the front desk were very pleasant and helpful upon arrival and again at departure. The suite was large, the King bed very comfortable and the bathroom (with views from the bath) was amazing. Everything was very clean. We will definitely be back to stay next time and would recommend Crowne Plaza to others.
i stayed for 2 nights and tried both river view and skyline/river view rooms .. :) ALWAYS go for Skyline / River view room , its worth . Rooms are pretty small and dont expect the Crown plaza standard :( ..I liked the full frame window. Location is prefect and you can take the free tramp. Buffet Breakfast was ok (they have fresh juice station ,that was great not seen everywhere). You have many options near by too. Hotel needs a proper renovation to make it shine :)
Very bad service at check in. The room was dirty (see pics) even after housekeeping. Minimum of toiletries, I had to ask for a toothbrush, yes, only by request. No sleepers. I have been to crown plazas all over and have never seen this. The ironing board remained opened through our entire stay even though we only used it once. Breakfast was ok, for 35 AUD although there are plenty of cafes in the area with better quality/price.
Crowne Plaza is supposed to be a premium brand. In this location it is ... well... it ok but not premium. To be specific: On check in - it is hard not to notice the scuffs and marks on the wall behind the check in staff, that have clearly been there for some time. The lobby bar snacks seem to be created in the bistro below and collected/relayed when the lobby bar staff have time. (ours took quote time time) As per other comments, the separation between the bathroom/toilet and the bed is not up to standard I have seen on in other Crowne Plaza locations. If you don't expect a premium location you will be very happy!
This was my first trip to Melbourne in ages and the main reason for my visit was to complete in the national athletics championships for Masters athletes. I arrived in the evening from my flight from Perth and the hotel was only a few hundred metres walk from the Skybus drop off point at Southern Cross station. I could have chosen to hop on a tram with my luggage as there was a stop just outside the station and the a stop was a very short walk from the hotel as both locations are on Spencer Street. Check-in was quick and easy as the reception area was quiet at 7pm. A higher grade room was available so I was able to secure my free platinum upgrade and I was very happy with that. My room was on level 7 and with 4 lifts available I didn't have to wait long for a lift to arrive. The room itself was spacious with a king-size bed with views of the Yarra River and the city-scape on the other side. Every morning I had breakfast at the hotel's only restaurant, the Clarendon Street Grill. There was an excellent range of hot and cold foods and my friend like the juicing station. The was a minor issue most mornings. On arriving at the restaurant wait staff would ask if I wanted a tea or coffee. It was only twice during my 6 breakfasts that I received my coffee without having to chase it up. The barista was very busy some mornings but even on a quiet weekend I seemed to get forgotten about. A minor blemish on a great stay. I was always out competing in athletics events or out on a tour so I was never in the hotel for lunch. I only had one dinner at the hotel because there were so many excellent dining options nearby the hotel, especially with the Crown Resort a short walk away. Check-out went smoothly and I was glad the receptionist went through the items on my account as I had been charged for food and drinks I had never ordered. Overall a great experience and would definitely stay at this hotel again.
