I usually like art deco buildings, like this one, but I believe their remodelling process is half way through. I think that if they continue with remodelling, this hotel could recover its past presence in the city.
I came to this hotel with my partner, It is an old fashioned hotel but is full of character. There are lovely views of Plaza Botero and there is a terrace cafe on the 3rd floor. The rooms are basic and are clean. The hotel staff are very helpful. The breakfast is adequate
I booked and confirmed a quoted price for a standard room but when I arrived at night, the hôtel reception made me pay in avance 25% more than the quoted price. The only option I was given was either pay or leave. Unsurprisingly, no manager was available to discuss the matter that night or the next morning. The area is very dodgy after dark and taken over by all sorts of street vendors. Furthermore, the building and the rooms are in serious need of an extensive maintenance, in particular the showers where you either get scalding hot or just cold water with no way to adjust. Breakfast is very poor with what is possibly also the worst coffee in Colombia.
We stayed in Hotel Nutibara for 4 nights. The room was oké just the shower was too Hot. The View on the Botero Square was very nice(8 Floor). Breakfast was bad: the worst was the airco which puts you in a freezer, we asked to put it of but they did not ,so we had to go in the room to put our coats on. There was No marmelade or Ham. Always scrambled eggs. When checking out they asked for 5.400pesos .we did not use the minibar, asked :why? After a while they did declare that we used the toothbrush, but we have our Electronic toothbrush, so we did not use it. After a while they came back with the box and at one side you could see that we did look in the box. I told them that if they want to charge the guest for using it they should mention this on the box because shampoo, soap etc. is free. We left whithout paying this and they told us that we will be charged by our next visit. Well WE never will!
rooms where dirty bathrooms where even more dirty customer service was always late and not responsive the only good thing was the location, close to the metro and to Plaza Botero. i definitely do not recommend it
This is not a hotel to stay at if you like quiet, of course Medellin is not a good choice if you are looking for quiet also. The hotel at one time was probably THE hotel in Medellin - 50 years ago - it has a great location just across the street from Botero Plaza, it is next to the Metro and numerous bus lines, including the bus to MDE. Because of this it can be noisy. The rooms are older , the beds are stiff - like most beds in Medellin, has the hottest water of any hotel I have ever stayed at. The front desk people are OK - not overly friendly - comes with a decent free breakfast. I think I paid $35/night ( 3000 pesos to the dollar at the time) , again at one time this was the upscale hotel in Medellin, now it is an affordable city hotel that is out dated - don't expect more than that, and skip it if a light sleeper. Remember in Medellin- ear plugs can be your best friend,
We stayed for a Week for Colombiamoda. The last day of our stay we realizad our jewelry was stolen, the hotel did Nothing to help us even though the only person who came into our room was the cleaning lady. Security did Nothing no help us. Ir is very u sale to go out at night and quite noisy. Will not recommend or go back again Ever. Beware travelers.
I was excited to try this hotel and it is indeed lovely. But... it's located in an area that is unsafe to walk after dark and the hotel itself was so bad that I left and paid for a second hotel even though this was prepaid. Pros: Close to the Plaza and museums Cons: AC is terrible No cold water. Terrible mattresses and pillows Slow and ineffective service Simply not edible breakfast (some eggs made from a box of some kind of mush) So all in all, hot, dangerous and uncomfortable made this not a viable option for more than one night.
I just checked out from this hotel and I couldnt way to write this review. By far, this is probably one of the worst experiences that I have every had in all my travels. My first bad experience was right upon arrival when I went to check in. The person at the front desk (Carlos) didnt even greet me, never smiled, never say welcome, he was just in a bad mood or something or doesnt like his job. We had to leave right away for a few hours and when we came back to the hotel, we noticed that the air conditioner wasnt working, so we called to complain. The guy came over and try to fix it, they told me that it could take a while to cool down. They tried to change me to another room, but it was worst. After waiting for a couple of hours, I came back to the front desk at this time a new person who was less friendly than the other one ( Arles) told me that he needed to send the bellboy to make sure that I wasnt doing something wrong. I insisted that I wanted to change to another room, which he did, but it never worked. We didnt sleep at all. When I came down to check out, I told him of my bad experience and he seemed not to care at all. He didnt apologize and his attitude was very rude. The area around this hotel is extremely busy and noise, not only from the cars but also they are building in the back of the hotel and they were hammering like until 11:00 PM. The noise of the music of the three or four discotheques in the area could be heard until 3:00 AM. In a nutshell, if you want sanity, just stay away from this place.
The hotel is located in the downtown district. The area is extremely busy with vendors selling food, used clothing etc. It becomes scary at nights and walking after 8pm becomes questionable. I experienced nothing bad, but the fear of something happening always remains. The hotel building is huge and also contains a school on the second floor. The staff are friendly, but the security might be a little weak. The breakfast is horrible!!!
