My husband and I chose Kohea Kai to stay at during our visit to Maui in early April. We were celebrating a belated honeymoon and our stay at the Kohea Kai honestly took the whole trip to another level! When we first got there, we were informed that we had been upgraded on account of the honeymoon. And trust me, “upgrade” was an understatement. When we walked into our “room”, our jaws fell to the floor. It was a two story loft style apartment space, with two separate balconies, a bedroom on the top floor, a whole kitchen and lounge area, and a 360 degree view! It made coming home after activities around Maui a true pleasure! And as if the great location and suite itself weren’t enough, the staff was just AMAZING. They were friendly, helpful, full of great advice and just wonderful people. The resort also provided us with beach towels and access to beach chairs, umbrellas and other such fun things to take with us to the beach to enhance that experience as well. They even provided us with an audio cd guide for the Road to Hana that we did on one of the days! And did I mention there was complimentary breakfast? Nothing like some fresh pineapple first thing in the morning! Do yourself a favor and choose Kohea Kai!
Recently stayed at this hotel for our Maui vacation and absolutely enjoyed the time there. The hotel has everything from coolers to find and sunblock for use as well as a beautiful garden, pool & spa.
We arrived late in the evening and were greeted with a very pleasant staff who made us feel right at home. Our room was upgraded before we arrived. We truly enjoyed this place. They have an honor system with use of suntan lotions, beachside chairs, pool towels, books about Maui, etc. The morning complimentary breakfast was very well done. I couldn't say more about the staff. Everyone on the staff gives ownership to the property - I consider this place a utopian refuge after a fun long day of exploring the island. I Have several photos of the property to share. We enjoyed unlimited access to the pool and jacuzzi. Truly a relaxing experience. We recommend the facility with a smile.
I recently had to move out of my condo in Kihei for 2 days for the annual fumigation and tenting procedures. I needed a hotel that would allow maximum flexibility to bring my house plants and refrigerated goods to the property to store. Michael Waddell and his team were uber flexible allowing us to check in early and stay later the last day without any additional charges to help us through this challenging process. I rate them highly for flexibility, professionalism, and cleanliness!
Boutique resort providing easy ocean access and all the amenities required of a home base for exploring Maui . Centrally located, wonderful grounds featuring rooms and spaces prepared with care. Mahalo. Todd
This is an amazing boutique resort hotel that should be enjoyed by every Maui visitor! First impressions are everything - and it was great! The grounds are breathtaking and meticulously maintained; the welcome we received by staff was incredible; the room was spacious and had a beautiful view of the ocean. We were pleasantly surprised by the price too -- very reasonable for what they have to offer! Complimentary breakfast bistro, all you need for relaxing on the beach (chair, umbrella, ice, cooler...).The location of this gem is perfect -- away from the hustle and bustle of the large hotels, but close enough to get there in 10 minutes if that's where you want to spend time. The beach is literally just across a two lane road -- you're there in two minutes! Quiet surroundings, with the sound of the ocean outside for tranquility. The staff at Kohea Kai is awesome! Everyone was so welcoming, gracious, courteous, and more than willing to answer a question about anything! Keoni (front desk reception) is so knowledgable about the surroundings, the culture, and what to do and see! He was a big part of making our trip enjoyable and unforgettable! From the drive in to the parking lot, the grounds, the rooms, just everything -- you can see that the entire staff takes pride in this property and it's not just a job for them. They love it and want their visitors to as well. We absolutely did and can't wait to go back and visit our Kohea Kai family -- that's how we were treated, like family.
We love the ocean-front penthouse suite as if it were our own home. Fully furnished, roomy, great deck and view. They even put in handicapped round railings for my spouse, after our visit last year. They now offer complimentary breakfast as well, and the beautiful gardens. The pool is nothing, so don't think you will be hanging out there---but the beach is right across a small street. They offer all the beach amenities: chairs, umbrella, sunscreen, ice chests, ice, etc. Near everything in Kihei, and the Maalea Harbor. Wouldn't stay anywhere but there.
After visiting family on Oahu and deciding to island hop to Maui, we opted last minute to extend our visit overnight. Not knowing it was Spring Break, finding accommodations was quite difficult. After searching for hours, late in the evening, we came across this place. I made the reservation and paid online-- at the rate of almost $400 FOR ONE NIGHT! Believe me, I was reluctant but after a long day, I didn't have many choices. We were exhausted and places like this capitalize on that! Upon checking in, I was greeted by a very nice lady named Teryl-- she was very customer- centric and was the most pleasant part of that stay. HOWEVER, the next morning, my granddaughter and I ventured over to the bistro for breakfast, which was included in our room rate. Upon entering the bistro, I was rudely interrogated by Robin who asked me what I needed, was I a guest there, when did I check in, etc??!! I mean, she was the omelet cook for God's sake. When I confirmed that we were guests, she then proceeded to inform me that if my granddaughter were going to eat that I would have to take her back to my room because the resort was "adult only "-- this was the first I'd heard of that. She was rude, in front of another couple sitting there, and certainly was unprofessional and nasty. I then ventured to the front desk to ask to speak with the property manager and encountered Molly, another rude worker who compared my two year old granddaughter to her new puppy-- NOT COOL. So.. eventually Mike, the property manager came over as we were preparing to leave this place; he offered NOTHING more than a bunch of double talk and even defended his employees' rude interactions--RIDICULOUS!! Nobody other than Teryl gives a crap about their customers and act as though we were privileged to be there! There are many other places to spend your money-- this one will not appreciate you. Needless to say, I was charged double what they are charging this week and I have never been treated so poorly. I would not stay here ever again and would not recommend it to anyone unless you want to pay double and be treated like a second class citizen. I will stay elsewhere.
No one quite does it like Kohea Kai... From the moment you walk into the lobby, you know that you just walked into your second home... It is so important to be greeted with a Big Smile and a Hug... Ray and I have been staying here since 2009 we kind of figured and are always Welcomed like we are Part of the Kohea Kai Family... We are looking forward to the Newest Updates coming in the next few months on our return visit in June... And Breakfast in the bistro has been received Big Time... We know we have a Choice where to stay while in Maui, but nothing will ever replace Kohea Kai Resort... Jack and Ray...
I had a great vibe of this place when I called the first time to inquire about the resort. I had informed Terrel what I was looking for in a room and what type of experience I desired. This is a wonderful place to stay. First the entire staff is wonderful. They go out of your way to feel welcome and assist. I had many great discussions with the staff about the island it's culture. They recommended many places to eat, The grounds are immaculate, beautiful and well maintained. My room was clean, and very nice. The view I had was great. The roof top has great views to watch the sun and moon. living in the north we don't get moon rises/sets and they were breathtaking. The location is great. There is a great walking beach right across the street form the resort. You are close enough to all of the restaurants and shops but fare enough away to enjoy the tranquility of Maui. Maui called out to me and invited me in to her beauty. Thanks to all of the staff for making my experience a great one.
