Mercure Marseille Centre Vieux Port

After a lovely stay at Hilton Diagonal Mar in Barcelona, we drove to Marseille, France for 2 nights. We strategically selected Mercure, Marseille (Centre Vieux-Port) which is within walking distance to the Old Port. Finding it in this crazy labyrinth was already a puzzle. Some streets were closed or reconfigured. My GPS was going nuts. Furthermore, due to the strike, the streets of Marseille were piled up with garbage and the smell was enough to kill you. Once we finally found the hotel and checked in, finding the indoor parking in a mall was another puzzle. The room itself was below average and the corridor on our floor was at the image of the streets with a terrible odor. I had to convince my wife to remain Zen because she didn’t want to stay. The restaurant where breakfast s served was not any better. Observing how the tables were being cleaned was just disgusting. Marseille was not on our bucket list however, the only reason why we stopped there is because we wanted to drive to Cannes and Monaco the next day and, the following day, we had to drive back to Barcelona, Spain. So, Marseille was a decent central point. However, if I ever have to go back to Marseille, Mercure will not be my 1st option for sure.

I stayed overnight and was satisfied with this choice. Easy accessible from bus and train terminal, close to the Old port. Room is spacious, clean, equipped with widescreen tv, teapot and even fridge. Plenty of food in breakfast. Special thanks to the kind reception staff who arranged the room before official check-in time!

Was difficult to find until we found these shopping centres.(Lafayette is at the back but part of the Bourse indoor shopping complex).Go to the lift area on 3rd floor of Bourse, step outside and the hotel is next door. Street area looks a wee bit run down. We'd booked breakfast inclusive deal and found it was well worth it. Absolutely fabulous hot and cold buffet spread. Best breakfast selection ever. (Even eggs cooked whilst you waited/how you wanted them, if different from scrambled supplied). Although don't go down to breakfast in the last 1/2 hour because some foods aren't replenished. Had a triple room, 3rd bed for an adult was a decent sofa bed-already made up for us. Lovely waterfall shower in en-suite bathroom. Fridge in room with 1 complimentary bottle of water. Tea tray supplied but only small disposable paper cups. View from our window was roof tops only. Found hotel a little bit impersonal. Starbucks coffee is a couple of streets away with big cups! Across the road from the hotel is an 'Emmaus' (charity shop) but its closed on Sundays and Mondays. A little walk to the port area. Yes I would use this hotel again.

Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable with a very good shower. These are the things we wanted above all else, so in that sense we were satisfied. The location, only 5 minutes or so from the old harbour on foot, was fine but the area is not too salubrious. On out first arrival the hotel looked as though it might have been quite chic at one time but was now tired in a rather scruffy area. (But we felt safe at all times.) Inside it was OK. A standard Mercure with very good staff. There were two very big disappointments. Wifi, although free, was very poor and very slow. Ok for email. Useless for downloading a timetable of booking a train for example. I complained at the desk. They could not help. We thought the buffet breakfast at 19€ was just not good value for money, unless you intended to fill up for the day. The alternative of a coffee, juice and a single piece of bread for 8€ was outrageous. Many great places just five minutes away. We will not stay there again.

I had a room on the 9th floor, at the end of the corridor. Clean and quiet, the bathroom was really clean and the bed is big and comfortable. I had a view of the bay at night, really amazing. I tried the room service ordering some pasta (fettuccine all'arrabbiata) with wine that was ready in 20 minutes, really good. They charge 8 euro for a fast breakfast or 18 for a complete-continental service. Free wifi in all rooms. Great hotel.

This hotel has a great location, very close to the Old Port and St. Charles Station, very convenient. The rooms are nice and clean, the service is great. The staff at the reception is very welcoming and nice.

This hotel had everything including a great view from room 1101. The spacious Superior King room lived up to its name. It had a safe, Fridge, flat screen TV with English channels. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom with the rain fall shower was super. The breakfast was excellent with both hot and cold options. Car parking was pricey E20 a day, but it was in a secure private park which only guests could access and no fighting over spaces like you have in some hotel car parks, so worth it. Vieux Port was just a 10 minute walk through busy streets. Perfect in every way.

We stayed here for two nights. Hotel room was a good size, not much of a view though. Good sized bathroom and tea and coffee making facilities. Bed was comfy and everything was very clean. Aircon was great during the hot weather. There was a leak in the room that we didn't really notice until we were about to leave so it didn't really affect our stay. The hotel lobby is quite grand and has a nice bar area. It's in an excellent location, a very short walk to the lovely harbour and lots of restaurants. Only fault was the parking that was located in the shopping centre car park. We had quite a lot of luggage with us so it was quite hard lugging it all to and from the car. It wasn't cheap either; 67 euros for two nights parking! Staff were friendly, didn't have breakfast there as it was 18 euros per person, we had coffee and croissants at a cafe in the harbour. Would stay here again.

I and my husband arrived to this hotel in August and stayed 1 night. Arrived in the room and the first second after arrival we saw a black hair on the pillow. I pulled the duvet and there was absolutely no doubt that this room we are going to share with previous guests. My husband immediately called the receptionist and reported the problem. Reception did not listen much of what we were saying and simply handed us a new card with a room on the other level. Arrived to a new room and there was even more hair in bed! Hair were even under "cleaned" glasses in the bathroom. The shower was so dirty too. Customer service is awful. Hotel staff was not caring about what is going.

Really disappointed about this hotel. Although the location is good the rooms are a bit noisy because of the neighbour rooms, not clean enough especially the wardrop shelves and bathroom. Elevators are inefficient. I am sure I can find better hotels in the same area with the similar rate. I am sure that I will not come back and will not recommend this hotel.
