The Montgrand is a modern design hotel in a quiet side street very close to the Vieux Port in Marseille. The hotel is situated in grand old buildings that have been restored with a lot of taste and a very modern touch & feel and comfort. There is a beautiful inner courtyard, breakfast is simple but very good and the staff are competent and friendly.
The hotel and rooms occupy several sites on each side of Rue Montgrand. The hotel is within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants and the scenic old port of Marseille (Vieux Port). The reception staff was very friendly, check in was rapid. My room was on the 3rd floor of 50rue Montgrand almost opposite the reception. The hotel occupies all of the building; the room card gives access to the ground floor, from where there is modern lift up to the rooms. The room itself had a modern wooden floor, was clean, bright and tastefully decorated, using modern lighting to good effect. There were two windows giving onto the street. During the day there is some traffic on the street but at night it was very quiet. The room appears on the small side however there was a large and I should add particularly comfortable double bed occupying much of the space. The bathroom was bright, modern and functional with a walk-in Italian shower. The buffet breakfast was nothing special but had all the favourites from fresh breads and jams, mini pastries, yoghurts, ham, cheese or fresh boiled eggs. Coffee, tea chocolate and juices were also present. The breakfast room inside was tastefully decorated and frankly a nice place to sit. Some guests were taking their breakfast outside in the quiet, sheltered courtyard on a mild October morning. Would I come back to this hotel? Yes... I liked it.
A former executive in a major hotel group is doing his own thing, buying up properties in a side street conveniently close to the harbour area. The highlight is the base camp, the ground floor of a building which boasts a wonderfully large garden where guests can eat breakfast in summer. The bedrooms are in two terrace buildings opposite which he's converted into small bedrooms with very comfortable bed and bedding. The owner takes very personal care, his staff are friendly and the whole package comes together really well. Clever concept.
The house has a beautiful view and wonderful decorated and spacious rooms. The owner is a kind and very helpful person. Five stars! It is situated in a very calm area and you have a good access to the nearby islands.
I went to the hotel with a proper booking (booking number and all) at around 8pm. When I arrived, they told me that they had my booking, no problem on that side - but unfortunately, there was a mistake from their side, and they had no room left. 5 min later, someone else arrived - with a booking - but him, he had a room!! I had dinner while they were looking for a solution. They found a hotel, with a room in the attic, no window, just enough place for a single bed. By then I was too tired to change again!. I ended up paying 38 euros for some sushis and water, for dinner - no discount.. As a gesture, they offered me to come back for breakfast the next day, free... except that it meant coming back and I was not ready to do that. The staff was very nice trying to help and finding another room.. except that by then there was only this attic available. So don't go to a hotel that might cancel your room without any warning!!
What an amazing hotel!! Just perfect at the perfect price - everybody was naturally friendly and very accommodating to converse with us in English. Spotlessly clean and very comfy beds and a choice of air con or having windows open
...it was our last night in Marseille/Cassis and a lovely room after some ropier accomodation in cassis. Very friendly and helpful staff and nice clean and cosy room with warm lighing and an ultra quiet ac unit. Very handy for the old port.
If I said to you that there is a danger of a serious water leak what would you do ? Bet it's not nothing. Well we reported to reception that the tap in our bathroom was no longer attached to the sink ( something that should have been reported by the cleaning staff in the first place ). On return to our room after dinner nothing done . Now the room is clean and location is good , parking is expensive , but overall not a bad place unless of course it floods !
The hotel is in the historic center of Marseille, 5 mins walk to the old harbour. Nice and clean rooms. The bed was very comfortable. Staff was very kind and professional. Affordable rates. Highly recommended!
Confortable rooms, family room had a second level w/ 2 individual beds, very convenient, the stairs to second level were too small though. Good breakfast. Close to the port. Friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful decoration.
