We stayed in this hotel for one night. The best side is the view of the Vieux Port, I suggest a room with a view. Also there is bar called Caravelle inside and it is very nice for both breakfast and a night drink. The rooms are old and conditions are average. But the view is worth to stay.
Excellent location and views. Receptionists we're all very friendly. Lovely bar overlooking the harbor. Room was very small even though I took the superior double alone. We did not take the breakfast, but I looked nice. Water pressure in the shower was strong. A/C was weak. Room furnished in a very basic fashion- no closet. Television only French.
Stayed at this very charming small hotel for 2 nights in April 2017. Stayed in Marseille for work purposes and wanted to stay somewhere central where I could take advantage of the little free time I had to get to know some landmarks of Marseille. The hotel is located smack in the center (in the old port). Nice restaurants in the area, close to the Mucem, boat tours and other landmarks of Marseille. All walking distance (if you are into walking of course). Take the 2h boat tour to the Calenques and chateau d’if for 23 €/adult (kiosk located just across from the hotel next to the giant Ferriswheel). I definitely recommend it (dress warm because it gets windy out there and don’t forget sunscreen). Hotel is about 1-2 km walking distance to the aerobus / train terminal. A safe area to be (day or night) although beware if you walk too much and end up in some further, tougher looking side/secondary streets, specially if you walk to/from the train station. The hotel only has stairs (no elevator), 4 floors and simple reception. I noticed some rooms had a view to the side street although these also have a side view to the marina. I think all superior rooms have excellent views and 2 windows but confirm before booking. Hotel is very picturesc and has that jazzy / artistic / french look, circular staircase, red carpet corridors, bookshelves full of books along the stairway. Next to the reception there is a wooden style piano bar/restaurant (where you also have breakfast). Some days a weeks (not all) they have live bands. The bar also has a terrace where you can have breakfast or dine. The night I was they had a live band (playing light songs of Nirvana, I think). So you might enjoy this if you like to listen to some music before going to bed or you might not if you want to go to bed early and if your room is right over the bar. Nevertheless, music stops around mid-night so you shouldn’t have a problem with noise afterwards. I asked for a superior room since after looking at photos on the internet I got the feeling the superior room had 2 windows and was bigger and I was right. Asked for room 34 (see my annexed pictures) and got exactly the one I wanted: on the 3rd floor with a corner view. Their superior rooms can also have 2 window with frontal view of the marina. Honestly do not know which of these 2 rooms would be more pleasant but definitely loved mine. Room and bed were very comfortable clean and modern. They had some snacks (for a charge) but no mini-fridge. Samsung Lcd tv and tablet in the room (did not use the tablet). Also had ok wi-fi reception (from this room) but not excellent. Good enough for pictures and text but not good enough for constant live stream videos like Netflix or skype. Don´t worry about paying extra breakfast beforehand since you can pay it locally (10 €/day). Don´t worry about paying extra breakfast beforehand since you can pay it locally (10 €/day). As another trip advisor member informed the 10 € menu is not a very fulfilling breakfast. It is not a buffet breakfast. They bring a tray to your table, Check my picture to get the idea. They also charge an extra tourist charge (about 1€/day). Hotel staff was young and friendly.
The location and view are tremendous. Unfortunately there was no hot water during half of our stay, and no compensation was offered for the inconvenience. There is no elevator, forcing you to carry your bags up steep stairs. The receptionists are rather indifferent. Breakfast was not available. On the good side, our room was fairly spacious and the bed comfortable. We were offered a 48-hour parking pass (for an underground car park not far away) for 22 euros, which is cheap by French standards. The room was a bit pricy, but we did enjoy our stay. There is quite a bit of noise outside during the night but with the windows shut we slept well. A word of caution: most if not all of the restaurants lining the Old Port are extremely expensive tourist traps serving bad food. The area to look is on the opposite side in the back streets.
We spent six nights and found the location perfect for exploring Marseille and the surrounding area. We had a superior room on the fourth floor with a gorgeous view. Of course, it came at a price since there is no elevator so we had to climb five flights of stairs multiple times a day. We were told that they hope to have an elevator operational by this summer. If this matters to you, check before booking. The Caravelle Bar on the first (US second) floor is very popular and offers light fare in addition to drinks at all hours. Perfect place to plan the day and talk about it later. They also provide laundry service for 5€ which was a nice plus for us midway through our trip. Saved us having to spend half a day in a laundromat.
My wife and I stayed in this quaint hotel on the quay of the Vieux Port and really enjoyed our stay. Our room was small but that was more than compensated for by the view or the port and basilica. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Marseille.
I stayed here for 2 nights with a group of friends. It is in a lovely location over looking the marina. The rooms are reasonable in size and clean. There is a nice bar and restaurant on the first floor which serves great food throughout the day. Definitely worth considering if you are looking for a reasonably priced hotel in a good location.
The room was good, I was hoping that by upgrading our room we would have had a room with a corner view with two windows, but our room was still good.i liked the idea that you could rent beach stuff but we didn't have time on this visit but I think the rentals are a great idea. I also liked the large bottles of toiletries in the bathroom and thought this was far better than little bottles. The restaurant is good and lunch on the balcony was one of our best meals in Marseille. It was very reasonably priced too.
Right on the Old Port this hotel is all about location! The building is old so don't expect modern swish, it has no lift and the rooms are smallish. However it is clean and friendly with the most helpful of staff. Breakfast on the balcony in the resaurant overlooking the port is a wonderful experience. Marseille is now an easy Eurostar direct journey from London and this hotel a short taxi ride from the station so there is no excuse to book a long weekend here.
Great stay, beautiful port. Great room, nice staff, perfect breakfast!:)). You must see Notre Damme de la Garde on the hill. We went there with a tourist train. Well worth it. Very beautiful city, must go there!
