ibis Styles Manchester Portland Hotel (Newly refurbished)

3.5 out of 5.0

Recent guest reviews

This is my second time staying at the Ibis Styles Portland. I chose it again primarily for the location - it's right in the center of the city close to great restaurants and shops. My first morning the hot water was working so I had a cool shower. I alerted the staff and she said I just had to keep it running longer for the water to warm up, but during my whole 10 minute shower it didn't get any warmer. I woke up a little later the next day to see if showering after off-peak hours worked and I did have hot water so I assume early in the morning their hot water tanks run out quickly. The breakfast is a nice feature and the staff in the morning is very friendly.

The location of this hotel is perfect for being in central Manchester. Close to public transit, parks, restaurants, bars, and so many other things. The rooms are updated well and it was just what I needed for a short business trip. Breakfast in the morning was simple, yet nice. It's a casual environment with friendly staff. I would stay here again.

Recently renovated, the rooms are clean and tastefully decorated. However, to typical European fashion the room I was in was small and there was barely space to walk around double beds.

Clean rooms. Friendly staff. Great location. I did not eat at the restaurant but it always seemed busy so it mist be good.

I stayed at the Ibis at the recommendation of a friend. I was traveling alone and only staying in the hotel for one night but was really happy by the overall decor, ambiance and quality of my experience. The rooms weren't incredibly large but definitely more than enough room for myself and the short amount of time I was staying there. The staff was also extremely accommodating and helpful. Location of the hotel was perfect and conveniently located in the center of town making it easy to get around.

The staff was very polite, helpful and the breakfast very good.

Overall a fine place to stay, perfectly located in the center of Manchester, for reasonable cost. The room was quiet and clean, and the staff friendly. My biggest disappointment was that the bed had broken springs running along the outside half, which forced me to get practically right against the wall to the "inside" half. I also didn't experience the little things that earn the fourth star, in my book. For example, I was traveling with material for work and had four pieces of luggage total. Never did anyone offer to get or hold the door as I struggled in or out. Nothing I needed or normally expect, but an employee was right there! Would have been nice, that's all. I would go back, but I would expect a three star experience.

Being used to American sized hotel rooms, the rather stark and shoebox sized rooms were quite shocking. The staff worked with us (and were so nice it was almost unbelievable) to find us a room we were happy with. Breakfast is overpriced at ten pounds. Walk over the road for a freshly cooked English cafe breakfast for 3.99 GBP. Did not see the leisure center. Do not miss eating in China Town, which is located a five minute walk away.

Beautiful, full-service hotel in ideally central Manchester location -- minutes walk to mall, food, train, bus. Super informative & helpful staff. Room comfort was only slight because it was so compact, and we are spoiled to so much more space as Americans. However, I will definitely stay at this hotel again the next time I'm in Manchester AND will choose Thistle Hotels wherever possible the next time I'm anywhere overseas.

Excellent location. Quiet. Very good rate.

very good location, very welcoming staff and good service overall.

cetral location, friendly staff. internet WIFI is not for fee.

Although the chain might have better hotels, this isn't one of them. Not very clean, peeling wallpaper, no internet service. The staff was OK. I forgot my passport and they quickly put it in a cab to the airport for me.
