Booked for our family - 8 adults and 2 Children for Christmas Day 2017 @ €50 pp! Being Christmas we accepted that the price would be relatively dearer but we wanted to eat out and we went along with it! I am sorry to say, the food was left much to be desired! Apart from being a poor buffet! It was a buffet where I had to wait 20 min for a fresh batch of chicken nuggets for my daughter, after i had advised 4 different staff members that it was finished! After the 2nd time i asked, I knew i was being ignored! There was no other choice for kids either so i had to wait for the chicken nuggets! To add insult to injury, NONE of the staff i asked or probably that were there, knew a word of Maltese or English and i do not know how to speak in Italian, so i had to try to explain what it was i was waiting for! All had no knowledge of the English Language which i found very very frustrating! The lack of professionalism behind the buffet counters shone through - some of the employees didn’t know what they had to do! And the attire wasn’t hotel standard - some didn’t even have a chef’s uniform on! Buffet items were finishing and they weren’t being replenished! When i got to the main course buffet table i was served with a COLD piece of Salmon and when i went back the 2nd time i couldn’t be served pork because it was finished! Sweets - nothing appealing or worth the price we paid, for what was served! Then we got the coffee - one machine didn’t work, there was no milk in the other and none of the staff members bothered to aid the customers or at least try and fix it! They were busy cleaning up! Now i understand that everyone would want to pack up to go enjoy Christmas day with their families, but it doesn’t excuse the staff from giving a proper service and a service till the end! There were long queues from the antipasto right up to the coffee so it took ages until you actually sat down and ate! I also couldn’t help but noticing the chipped plates, cups and saucers that were used! All in all a poor service throughout!
The hotel is pretty average and not what I would call 4 star. We were overcharged on check-in although it was eventually rectified. Best recommendation - The lady who organised the trips etc. The buffet restaurant (which I think is franchised was awful). We ate (sorry attempted to eat) one evening buffet meal but it was not good. I could write reams about the buffet room, the staff, the state of the buffet, the cleanliness of the dining area and quite a bit more. My very many experiences travelling allowed this buffet operation to be designated the worst I have ever visited. From my observations food hygiene principles (HACCP) are not well observed. I accept we were there at a busy time but the hotel should be well aware of the likely numbers of guests - what are they like in the summer high season. The general concept seemed to be for coach parties in and out fast. Some pleasant staff but generally seemed a little offish. Outlook from lots of rooms is not very good. The first floor roof garden is far from attractive and the green 'carpetting' is in poor condition. Local eateries were generally very good and I would recommend them for breakfast as well as other meals.
the hotel location is very convenient since it is situated in the Saint Julian's a cosmopolitan area which is full of restaurants and shops. Do not miss the swimming pool in the basement of the hotel but also the jacuzzi in the same area (no charge). There is another open-air pool in the roof area with beautiful view which ofcourse was not usable in December when i visited. Alexandra in the lobby of the hotel is very helpful to explain anything about moving around the island. I removed a star because there were no bathroom slippers in the room, something unacceptable for a 4 star hotel. I had to ask for that at the reception and i was charged 4 euros.
Stayed here for a week in Oct-Nov 2017. The hotel is located close to lots of bars and restaurants. The first room we were given looked very dated so we were moved to a nicer room. Bed was comfortable. Staff friendly. especially the tour agent. Very big selection for buffet breakfast. The bar is tiny with no atmosphere but there are lots of other options.
This hotel is ideally situated. The front of house and housekeeping staff good however the restaurant is to be avoided at all costs. Whatever time you go for breakfast or dinner the food is cold and congealed. We had to tell them the milk was rancid. The fruit juice is tasteless and one member of the team repeatedly fingers and handles the food even picking it up with his fingers and eating it as he walks around. Christmas day was the worst yet with what was tantamount to left overs... Not even any veg to go with the roast meat. For our last night, despite being half board we shall be going elsewhere to eat. Our TV didn't work, the manager came up and confirmed it didn't but three days later nothing had been done to fix of replace it.
Stayed in end of November just for 3 nights. Not particularry busy at that time but very lovely hotel. Good service and breakfast buffet. A bit dated downstairs pool , showers and saunas but still can use for a quick relax.
Poor variety of food offered. Also until we arrived for the main course the food was cold. Enjoyed only the different desserts presented even if these were limited as once it finished they didn’t offer the item again. Would not be on my revisit for sure
Arriving from London we left our luggage in the hotel prior to our check in time and went to explore. Our room was fine but rather too warm so we tried to use the 'air conditioning' (as advertised,) however the room temperature did not change as as the hotel had switched to centrally controlled heating for the winter period! We therefore found sleeping during our stay. The food provided for our dinner was changed as there was a problem in the kitchen. I would not report this hotel as living up to a four star level on this experience.
We were in Golden Tulip Vivaldi in december, and the hotel was quite empty. Rooms and other facilities were clean and ok, but for a 4-star hotel I was expecting a bit more. Overall feeling was that the Golden Tulip Vivaldi is a 3-star hotel with a rating above their league. On the other hand, in december rooms were cheap, so the price-quality ratio was ok. The breakfast was quite varied, with an english bent, but not very tasty. Didn't drink coffee or juices second time. Fruits were nice, but there was not much fresh vegetables (lettuce, tomatoes, etc.) on offer. The room was spacious, but a little more furniture would have been nice. The bed was big but way too soft for my liking (I'm used to sleeping on a futon). Wouldn't go again.
Stayed for a weekend on b&b basis. Room clean, bed a bit too soft but still comfortable. We had room on the 4th floor, nice and quiet, really nothing to complain about. Breakfast was good, with great choice of cheese. Coffee from machine the worst I ever had, croisants on the edge of freshness. The restaurant, Antonio, nice and spacy and with beautifull sea view. When it comes to staff it's really mixed. The first day a blond lady didn't even say "hi" before asked for room number. Her colegue next morning was completely opposite - nice, welcoming and polite. Waiters are doing their job good but it seems like they are under great pressure. After spending all day out had problem with our room cards, the lady at the front desk was had bad attitude and was rolling her eyes. To me, as for someone within hospitality industry, such behaviour is unacceptable. It's not that hard to smile and be polite.
