Golden Tulip Vivaldi Hotel4.0 out of 5.0

My room was very small and rather dark, Wifi did not work well neither did AC, the street is very loud at night. Breakfast was poor. When we were waiting in the lobby for our airport bus they started some drilling on the walls and everybody found themselves in a cloud of dirt and dust. Not really a holiday hotel.
We had a wi-fi problem and as we went to the reception they were really helpful. In fact they sent a personal from the maintenance section even though it was late at night (around 11.15pm) to arrange the wi-fi.
I was liberating between giving this a 2 star or 3 star, and if there's a 2.5 star option I would have gone for it. I was a little trepidatious about staying here as I have not heard of the Golden Tulip chain and the reviews I have seen on TripAdvisor is mixed, and the last thing I wanted is a crappy stay during a work trip. But it is the height of summer and this is one of the few rooms I could find (at my budget) in St Julian's, so I thought I'd give it a gamble. The check-in experience was not a pleasant one. I arrived at the hotel slightly after 2:30 pm and after taking down my registration information, the hotel reception told me the room is not yet ready and that the check-in time is 3:00 pm. Bear in mind, I have just arrived after a 20 hours flight so I am not at my most accommodating mode. But anyway, I sat at the couch next to the reception and waited. At 3:00 pm, a slight queue has formed at the reception, and people were getting their room keys. I was hoping the reception can just pass me the key to my room without making me join the queue. But no luck. In fact, the lady at the reception was trying hard to avoid my glare. So I joined the queue and when I got to the front of the queue, which was about 3:20 pm, I asked for my room and the lady finally said, "your room is still not ready, but I give you another one". Dood. You could have done that 30 minutes ago! Anyway, I got to the room and found out it was arranged as 2 single beds instead of the double bed I requested. I called the reception and they said they will send someone to "fix" it. But nothing after 30 minutes. I decided to go out to get some drinks and stopped by the reception again to remind them about the bed. Which, I was pleased to find done up properly when I got back. Apart from this, and another incident where they took ages to bring me the floor mat they missed out during housekeeping, I guess I don't have much else to complain about. Oh, the bedding and towels are rather dated. Which is odd, because the rest of the hotel seemed relatively new. Especially the bathroom, which comes with a shower in a bathtub. The room was a little tight but I supposed that is normal in Europe. The bathroom was nice and spacious though. There is hardly any English channels on TV, so for the entire week, whenever I was in my room, TV was set to channel 151, which is the only English movie channel I found. It played some really old movies (The Goonies!) but at least it's white noise that I understood. The breakfast, included with the room, is decent. There's some cold meats, cheese, hot food and fruits and juices. There is also the local favourite - pastizzi, which they rotate between ricotta and peas daily. Location wise, it is perfect! Plenty of bars and restaurants right next to the hotel. About 5 minutes walk to the beach (which I gave a miss) and 7 minutes to the Bay Street shopping complex where you'll find almost everything. There's also a food store 5 minutes from the hotel where you could get your groceries and sandwiches. It's 5 and 10 minutes walk to the nearby Portomaso and Spinola Bay respectively. There's also a bus stop right outside the hotel but I did not take any bus during my stay so I'm not sure how that works. It can get a little rowdy at night, with all the watering holes but it felt safe, even when I walked back alone at 11 pm. One last thing, they've got this strange policy about late checkout - they cannot give you an answer until the day you checkout! Which is a little annoying as I had to arrange for the transport to the airport and I couldn't until I know the status of my late checkout request. Generally, it is a decent stay. Room was alright and location is everything, right? Housekeeping standard can be improved. And I wished the staff can be a bit more helpful and accommodating. If not that, at least friendly. During my entire stay, there is only one lady at the reception (whom I believe is the manager) who showed signs of being helpful and friendly.
Boring lobby, even more boring restaurant, but staff friendly. Room okay - much street noise though. Hallways full of worn our chairs and sofas and the stair behind elevator rather filthy. Probably an okay location if you want to swim and party at night. We will opt for downtown Valletta next time.
The hotel itself is older. Would need a upgrade. It's more than fine and the roof top pool is a great spot. Close to Paceville if you want to party... for a romantic getaway, go to Sliema instead. Staff is very friendly.
Great hotel, great location, great service. Superb location for meeting business clients. Relaxing yet great ambience and surroundings. In the centre of everything and close to the beach. Recommend highly.
Well this was a last minute booking after searching high and low for a hotel we thought let's just book it as everywhere is getting sold out. The reviews were a mixed bag but we booked anyway. Are we glad we did .... yes! Booked a superior room and was Nicely surprised. The reception is modern and up to date. We in countered a problem on arrival as our bed linen wasn't clean but the hotel rectified this immediately. The mattress was ripped on close inspection and they changed this also. This sounds horrendous but in all honesty the rest of our stay made up for this one mistake. The pool is on the small side but you don't fight for a sun bed and there's no towel hugging idiots reserving beds so this was nice to get up when we wanted and know we could get a bed to sun bathe on. Our friend stayed in a suite which was the same standard as the superior and this had a balcony which was very nice and a large sitting area. Drinks was a nice surprise as there were not over priced 1.50 euros for water / coke and slush. Our friends getting married were staying at the Corinthian we visited them once and as great as the pools were a water and Fanta cost 9 euros. Room service was great too around 3 euros extra to have food in bed now that's a holiday. Breakfast was good with a standard buffet of hot and cold food. We missed it most mornings and there's plenty of places to go for brunch. The hotel is located in a perfect location. A 5 minute walk takes you to strip of bars and restaurants A 7 min walk takes you to spinola bay and it's a 7 min walk to the beach and the Corinthia marina is 10 min on foot. The bus stops outside too. I would stay here again for sure and I consider myself a harsh reviewer. If it wasn't for a bad start with the bed linen and mattress I would rate a 5.
Just returned from a 7 night stay at this hotel and had a great stay with my husband and two children under four years old. The room was very spacious and modern looking. It was cleaned every day and freshened up with new towels, bins emptied, floors cleaned etc. All the staff were extremely friendly and made a fuss of my children to make them feel special. The pool area on the roof terrace was clean with plenty of sunbeds throughout the day, a nice bar and snack area and good ambient music playing. The indoor pool and whirlpool area was also clean and had a gym, Turkish bath and spa facilities. The only thing I would say is that the indoor pool doesn't have a shallow end so isn't ideal for children. I'm 5ft 3ins and I couldn't touch the bottom! The foyer/reception area always had staff there willing to help you book trips and taxis. They have a piano bar which is perfect on hot days as they have the air con on at all times which was good since it was really hot when we were there. I can't fault the place at all. It's in a good location close to nightlife, the beach, restaurants and transport. We only had breakfast at the hotel and the food was plentiful, good quality and a huge variety each day. Staff were quick to clean up the tables after you and to replenish the food as it went down right through until the end of breakfast. Would highly recommend this hotel and we would definitely consider going there again if we return to Malta.
Being there on business for 6 nights the opening of the breakfast room at 7 am. is late ... noticed that one day airline crew was already in there while we were waiting. Would have liked more fresh fruit and the sausages/bacon warmer. Pool bar closes at 7 p.m. A restaurant/bat open in the evening there would have been lovely. Rooms are clean and in the bathroom a make-up mirror and a good hair dryer. Only one kind of shower gel/shampoo. The baggage room is open for everybody to enter which should not be the case in a hotel of this standard. If you need an invoice you really have to insist .. otherwise they just give you a receipt that no company would accept.
the room is very clean and do house keeping everyday.. very comfortable stay at the hotel ...like it so much..” The pool at the roof top is nice. Excellent room I definitely recommend this hotel.” Great location in center, very nice pool ,air conditional. One of the best hotels i've stayed in maltas, Next time i get there i just want to live there Ett härligt hotell med allt man kan önska sig!
