Stayed at the Mision de San Miguel for three nights with family. Once you've found it (it's hidden away for sure, either down a narrow alley off the busy Carrer de Sant Miquel or round from the Carrer de Can Macanet), you'll love it. We got the Route 1 bus from the airport which drops off at the Placa d'Espanya, from there cross the main road, walk across the square, down Placa de la Porta Pintada, turn left at the Hrammallorca church onto Carrer de Sant Miquel, and finally the tricky bit, you need to turn right down a narrow alley which is easy to miss, called Carrer de Can Perpinya, straight down there you will see the archway and gates that lead to the hotel courtyard, took us about 10 minutes from the bus stop with all our luggage. Don't be put off by outside first impressions, once you step through the ornate gates into the pretty courtyard you'll be sold. Reception area includes a lovely bar with coffees and excellent cocktails to choose from. Rooms seem to vary a bit, we had one on the first floor with French windows and shutters overlooking the courtyard, decent sized room, the furniture a bit worn out and the shower in need of some repair work. Mum and Dad's room was on the ground floor and looked to have been refurbished more recently with a new floor and in much better condition, they also had a window onto the courtyard. Breakfast is served downstairs under the reception in a light airy room, mostly continental style but with a good selection of sweet and savoury choice, hot buffet somewhat limited to scrambled egg and sausages on one day, grilled tomatoes the other. After your breakfast get out and see Palma, the hotel location is perfect and we walked everywhere didn't need taxis. It's five minutes to the fantastic market Mercat de L'Olivar which I'd highly recommend if you're a foodie; wonder around taking in the colours, smells and atmosphere before treating yourself at one of the many tapas, fresh fish, ham or, our favourite, excellent sushi bars; to be honest I could just spend the day watching and eating! In the other direction, come out of the hotel, down the steps, turn left cross Carrer de la Missio, into Carrer del Carme and you will come out onto La Rambla, a main street with upmarket shops. From here you can pretty much walk anywhere, down to Plaza Mayor, out into the old town or down to the cathedral and the port. We think 20 to 30 mins from the hotel down to Placa de la Llotja (nice for tapas) depending on how quickly you walk. All of the staff at the hotel were excellent, helpful and couldn't do more to make you feel welcome. Finally, special mention must go to the bed, Wifey and I were both agreed it was the most comfortable mattress we've slept on, ever! I think it was some sort of memory foam, but not hot and unbreathable like they can be, basically lovely, if anyone can tell me who makes them please do, I will buy one for home... We had a wonderful time, thank you Mision de San Miguel, although you do need to fix that leaky shower in 205!!!
Very good location for exploring old town. Parking garage pretty tight for anything larger than a Fiat 500. Staff friendly and helpful. Reception and breakfast area nice and food very good. Rooms and corridors could do with repainting and new carpets. Overall a fairly nice place
We stayed 4 nights. The room we had was long and narrow. No view, I don't think any of the rooms could have a view. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. Some noise from other rooms, but not too much of a problem. We didn't bother with breakfast as coffee and croissant shops a few yards from the hotel. Location is excellent for exploring the old town.
When you manage to find this hotel (not accessible directly by vehicle) you do appreciate its centrality and the very friendly staff. However, built around a courtyard, you have the option of Spanish late hours drinkers outside your window, or overlooking the nearby road/loading bay. Quiet it is not. Air conditioning no funciona. But it was clean, the rooms large and well equipped and the welcome glass of Cava was very much appreciated.
We arrived by rental car and the degree of difficulty was enormous! Even with GPS, finding this hotel is extraordinarily difficult. Literally, we arrived and didn't know it until we spoke into a microphone on the wall of an alley. That was our last problem. Thereafter, this hotel was a wonder of wonders. The welcome pastries and champagne, our room over looking an ancient alley, our midnight walk through the old city to the central plaza, the bakery shop and the market just outside the hotel are all beyond belief.
Stayed 9 nights to tour city and visit countryside by bus and train walking /hiking in the sun. First to note the staff are lovely! Nothing is too much for them and they willingly serve with a big smile! The hotel location is in the old town close to all Palma's sites and services. City hotels are all affected by noise and restricted views this one is no exception. But ear plugs solve the problem and the location close to city services outweighs the views from the rooms. Breakfast (extra) was excellent value and very nice. Hot items can be ordered and arrived quickly. I enjoyed my stay at this hotel and the city on my doorstep was magnificent! Tea and coffee facilities in the room would be nice, as would a plug in the sink and a hook for the hand towels, bath towel but these are minor points and cannot detract from the fact the staff are all smiling and so willing to serve. Recommend this hotel? YES !
This hotel is in an interesting building in a good location but it does not have much else to commend it - we will not be returning on our next trip to the delightful city of Palma. We stayed three nights for a spring break and enjoyed the central location close to shops, restaurants and the major cultural attractions. The architects have done a good conversion job but the place is let down by an accumulation of defects and lack of attention to detail. The approach to the hotel is a bit obscure - down sometimes smelly passage ways with graffiti strewn walls. There was no obvious sign indicating where to find the reception on arrival. There was no sign of a concierge and the young woman receptionist had to offer to carry our bags (we politely declined). The hall light outside our room did not work which made it difficult to get our key in the lock. Our wooden room fittings looked worn and tired and the tv remote control was erratic at best. The double bed we had expected was in fact two singles pulled together which was not very romantic. The wifi in our room hardly ever worked - it was basically totally unreliable which is very poor for a supposed four star establishment which this hotel ludicrously claims to be. The bedside light fittings often flickered on and off if touched. And unbelievably some idiot had nailed an upright sharp metal screw into the bathroom floor to act as a door stop - we had to step around it every time we used the bathroom in our bare feet to avoid serious injury. Oh and there was no plug in the sink so it was very difficult to have a wet shave in the morning. The reception staff were ok but nobody asked about how our stay had been as we checked out - I think we now know why.
Well located beyond the plaza de espana in the historic area of Palma. Easy to reach by airport bus. The room was clean, good size and the bed comfortable. The room looked tired - as if it needs freshening up with a coat of paint.
We spent four nights at this hotel recently and I thought the front desk staff were just wonderful. Helpful, courteous, thoughtful and spoke excellent English. The room we were given however has definitely seen its better days. Heavy scuffing marks everywhere and the heater was very loud. TV programs were limited. Showers leaked. We still managed to sleep ok since we were usually exhausted after 12-14 hour outings every day as there was just so much to do in Palma and the rest of Mallorca. My biggest gripe is however the car park. It is soooooo narrow down a steep spiralling ramp and electric parking brake just couldn't hold the car on the ramp. The narrow alley upon exit was again difficult to navigate. We had a mini MPV and scraped by. 12€ a day at the hotel is actually v cheap as compared to onstreet parking which is almost impossible to find a free space. Traffic cops everywhere giving out fines. Bottom line - don't stay here if you have a rental car above compact category -- go to AC Hotel instead (with nicer rooms to boot).
I chose this location as I was in Palma for work and it is very close to the main business district. On paper the hotel looks great. Its quirkish location, hidden in small alley gives it a feeling of a special hotel. Staff are friendly - as friendly as the guys selling the newspapers of the pleasant shop assistant. Nothing more, nothing less. Couple of issue I had were that the wifi is terrible. Forget it if you need to work or access sites with pictures etc (newspapers). Its just not good enough nowadays to have poor signal. I ended up going for a coffee to the next door cafe to get their password and use their wifi in my room (good tip :) ). The bed sheets on my bed were too small for the bed! Don't think that I have seen this in a hotel before. The bottom sheet barely reached the edge of the bed. The rooms are in a moderns style with a car painted type of floor. Thats fine however it was really scuffed up and really presented badly. The worst problem is the overall atmosphere of the property. Its a pity that in such a fine historic building that the owners choose such a bland and now outdated design concept. Minimalist modern. I have seen it work many times but here its just not right. Overall the hotel was OK. I would return as my overall experience was OK but think I will try some other places first.
