It's a nice hotel, with very modern decoration (you need to accept it) and super friendly staff. Room are clean and simple. Breakfast is good: you won't find the super buffets of the big hotel chains but you will not be disappointed. Otherwise you can choose one of the hundreds of bars just few minutes walk from the hotel. Actually the location is perfect, you couldn't be more centric. Super recommended
We stayed here for 4 nights. We could walk to all the sites we wanted to visit--including Prado, Royal Palace, Plaza Mayor, even Vincente Calderon stadium. You can find lots of famous restaurants within 10 minute walk. The staff are very pleasant and helpful. We were very happy to stay here.
We spent 9 nights here. We booked an executive room directly on their website including breakfast. We were upgraded on check-in to junior suite! The staff were all very friendly. Room was very spacious. Bathroom was clean, lacked counter space. Only downside was the room was facing street and you could hear noise through closed windows very easily. Breakfast was simple, scrambled eggs, Spanish omelette, bacon, ham, cheese, croissants, breads, yogurt, fruits, coffee machine, teas. Good variety.
This is the third Room Mate hotel we have stayed at now, our first in Madrid. Mario was really well situated very close to everything. The staff were so friendly and the rooms are really funky, clean and well equipped. I guess these hotels are bit "basic" but certainly worth every dollar. We will be back, either here or another of the chain. Liz
This hotel was really lovely - staff (especially Daniel) were so helpful pointing out best places to eat etc. Our room was lovely and beds very comfy - when we returned each evening the room had been cleaned so well it was so welcoming. The hotel is ideal for getting around Madrid and is in the centre of everything. Breakfast was everything you could possibly want and served up until 12 noon.
We spend 5 nights at Room Mate Mario and we were very satisfied. The service is excellent, the people are nice; the hotel is well located and it is very clean. It is really a very good option when you visit Madrid!
We found the hotel from the internet. It's very well priced. Check in was at 2 pm but we arrived at noon. Our room was not ready yet since we arrived early. So we accepted a room upgrade for 10€ per day. The upgraded room had a street view and a small balcony which we enjoyed. This is a very functional hotel if your plan is to spend more time outside than in. We walked everywhere except for the Arena. We could not have picked a more central hotel if we wanted to. The beds, bathroom and hotel in general is clean. Not the best place if you are after luxury. More practicality than luxury. The staff is very friendly. I especially want to thank Eva who was very caring both during our check-in and check-out. Check-in took about 5-6 minutes, check-out took about 2. Our taxi arrived at the time we ordered when we were leaving. The hotel is about 20 minutes to the airport when the is no traffic and about 30 minutes with traffic. We booked the room with breakfast. The breakfast was good but not very good. We usually prefer eating greens in the morning but the closest thing to that was fruits and tomatoes. No vegetables unfortunately, during any of the 4 mornings we ate there. They spray some kind of an air freshener to the entrance and stairs. Beware if you have migraines. The odor is waaay to strong and can trigger your migraine which happened to us. The most distinctive feature of the hotel was the wi-fi router they gave us which allowed us to have free internet anywhere we went during our stay. This is the first time we came across such a feature and we loved it. We never needed to ask any wi-fi password anywhere we went. The hotel has wi-fi throughout the premises with good reception. We enjoyed the hotel very much and will recommend it to all our friends.
Very clean and modern hotel set just off of the Opera square, where there is an extremely convenient Metro stop to anywhere in Madrid, an walking distance from most anything. The room and amenities are excellent. Perhaps the only slight downside is that, while generally it is a quiet location, early morning trash collection can be very noisy -- it would be nice if the rooms had better sound-insulated windows. But overall I would absolutely stay here again.
I had spent weeks poring over hotels in Madrid, finding fault with nearly every single one, until I got to the morning of my trip and still needed to book a place. I chose Room Mate Mario almost at random, but I was so lucky! What a great find. The location is fantastic (a minute's walk from Opera station, six minutes to the main drag of Gran Via), the staff are super nice, and the hotel is excellent. The room I stayed in won't win any awards for design, and while it was basic, it was comfortable and I was always thrilled to come back to it after walking for hours every day. I'll definitely make Room Mate Mario my hotel of choice the next time I go to Madrid. I wish I still there now!
It is hard to find fault with anything at Room Mate Mario, where we had the pleasure of staying during our first trip to Madrid. It's location is superb for seeing the various sights in and around the city with easy access to the Metro and a taxi stand. The rooms are small, but cleverly decorated and have all necessary amenities. The breakfast served until noon is a great deal for the money. But it is the people at the hotel who made our stay so wonderful. All speak excellent English, a necessity for those of us who are tragically mono linguistic. And they are well beyond helpful. They helped us navigate our way to museums, cathedrals, plazas and offered great suggestions for places to eat. They also helped us obtain tickets and to secure our airline boarding passes. Quite honestly, I cannot recommend this wonderful hotel highly enough. You simply cannot go wrong.
