After researching and shortlisting a few hotels in Madrid we finally chose this one because it had consistently positive reviews, describing it as a boutique hotel with friendly and helpful staff as well as being centrally located, close walking distance from most of the popular sites. I knew we made the right decision as soon we arrived. The decor in the lobby was funky and modern, with its red colour scheme & quirky lighting features. Then in our room there was a handwritten welcome note, wishing us a happy new year (we arrived 1st Jan) with a little bottle of local red wine (Rioja) and a couple of glasses. As it turned out, it was perfectly located, in a side street just off the plaza in front of the Opera Theatre, close walking distance to the Royal Palace, Plaza Mayor, Gran Via and Calle del Arenal leading up to Puerta del Sol. It wasn’t a huge room and the ensuite bathroom was very small (considering hubby isn’t exactly small he just fit in the shower cubicle); but there was enough room for the two of us, the bed was quite comfortable and it was very reasonably priced for our 4 night stay. Being up a quiet side street off the square was a bonus, as people tend to stay out well into the late hours and aren’t very quiet as they wander the streets! The optional buffet breakfast was also good value at 9 Euros, offering lots of variety from hot dishes to continental pastries, toast, cereals and yogurt.

We stayed in the hotel for three nights in March. It has a good location situated on a quiet side street just a few steps from the Teatro Real and the Opera Metro stop. It is also walking distance to the major sights such as the Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol and Palacio Real and there are many restaurants and cafès nearby. The staff was friendly and helpful. We arrived in Madrid early morning and they allowed us to store our luggage since our room wasn't ready yet. We also liked the variety and quality of their breakfast. Our double room was clean, quiet, spacious enough for two people and had good natural light. However, our bed was too soft and we wished it could be firmer.

Located 130 m from Opera metro station elevator exit and near but away the noisy pedestrian street (Calle de Arenal) which leads to Puerta del Sol Checking into the chic and trendy hotel took less than 60 seconds ! Our room was very quiet and everything was new and high-tech.We booked direct with the hotel and got a good discount.

We booked the hotel on Agoda and got a pretty good deal for our last two nights of a 16 night trip to Spain. Based on the price and the reviews we read we expected an average to above-average hotel in a great location. The hotel delivered on the great location and the staff was extremely friendly and very helpful. If I was reviewing based only on the location and staff this hotel would receive 5/5. However, the in-room experience was quite poor. The room was small (not a big deal), very loud, had a strong sewage odor from the bathroom (which we encountered in other places in Spain) and the head in the shower was broken. In addition the room was extremely hot and we told that the air conditioning was not operating in February. Finally, the bed itself was very uncomfortable and consisted of two beds pushed together (again, this was common in Spain). For the price we paid we came out OK – however, we were expecting better from this hotel. If all you care about is location then book away. Otherwise, you may want to look at other options in the area.

We chose to stay here for its proximity to the Real Madrid Theatre, where we were seeing the opera, Aida. It is also adjacent to the beautiful Plaza Oriente, Royal Palace and Cathedral, and short walk to Gran Via, with the upmarket designer stores as well as lower budget ones like H & M, Primark and Lefties. Puerta del Sol with its many cafes, bars and clubs is 10 minutes walk, or 1 metro stop away. There are also many useful bus stops and metro stations very nearby. We opted to upgrade to a Junior suite, which offered a better room and a balcony, for only 20 euros extra. I want to mention, especially, the receptionist, Eva, who cheerfully helped us bring our heavy and cumbersome bags to our room when I mentioned the few steps along the corridor. We arrived at our room to find it was very spacious, had a huge and very comfortable king-sized bed, and was sparkling white. After a few minutes, I also realised that it had no balcony. After I mentioned this lack of balcony to Eva, she assured us of a room change the next day. (So, after our morning outing, the next day, we returned to find all our bags shifted to the new room, and the keys awaiting us at the reception. Lovely staff here, all of them! All the usual amenities were provided in the rooms, including a kettle and coffee service. We did not eat here, as there are many cafes nearby, from the more upmarket to 100 Montaditos, and a Burger King next door and a 24 hr McD on Gran Via.) There is also a Dia supermarket nearby and laundromat, just across the street.

It was the first time to being in Madrid, Spain. I had just read the comments and decided to stay in there with my friend. Everything was just reasonable, The rooms were very clean, the breakfast was also good and enough to wake up :) Every room has a window for sure but if you want to see the view of the street from the balcony, you should pay extra little bit. If you think about you are travelling to see around, you do not need it. It's close to everywhere, you can walk to "Sol" or use the metro which is 1 min away to the station. Do not forget to buy touristic metro card how many days you want. As a result, it's in the city center. You will love it.

We stayed in three Room Mate hotels in Spain. They have very helpful staff, good breakfasts, spacious rooms, and overall at a very good price. Room Mate Mario is in a very convenient location just a block from the Teatro Real and close to the National Palace and the Plaza Mayor. Highly recommended.

Booked a short stay here and was pleased overall. Good location, very clean and a good breakfast if you need to catch a flight. Otherwise, I think there may have been better local options close by for a coffee and pastry or sandwich. Really small bathroom on a standard room and we found the bed to be too soft. Still a nice stay.

I was on a trip with my dad to see Madrid and we we're very happy with the hotel! We paid €10,- per night extra to get a bigger room with a balcony and a coffee and tea facility and it was totally worth it. The room was clean and looked good, the staff was very friendly and really wanted to help you and have a chat with you. Th breakfast was very good, you can eat breakfast from 7;00 to 12;00!! And the location was perfect, we were very close to different metro stations. We also walked to the Gran Via which was only like 10/15 minutes away, so you don't have to take the bus or metro. The only thing that was not the best was the bathroom, it was very small. A small bathroom is not a problem but the toilet was veryyyy small, it felt like a bucket. And when you were taking a shower, the only thing on your mind is how to keep the water in the bathtub and not on de bathroom floor... It was not a big problem but it's something they could improve. I had a very great experience and would totally go back to this hotel!!

Pros- Great location, within walking distance to many sights Staff is helpful and cheerful Cons- Challenging to find our room in the labyrinth of halls and random stairs. Be careful to toop going down stairs where ceiling is very low. Step up to sink area. Why? We tripped over this countless times. Half glass door in shower is inadequate. Was constantly adjusting the shifting shower head to prevent water splashing out of shower, to no avail. There was an inch of water on the floor. Ugh. Room waaaaaay too hot. Small relief with opening the window. Tried to turn off heat to room. Bed too bouncy and soft. Be careful of furniture in lobby. One sofa is so deep and soft, hard to get out of. The other narrow one has an odd, low plastic shelf behind it that caught both my husband and me right in the lower back. Breakfast didn't start until 8 a.m. but we had to leave at 7:30. Nothing was offered for us to take with us. Overall, I don't think we'd stay here again.
