Hostal Greco Madrid

A basic Madrid Hostal with reasonable size room with small fridge but no electric jug for a coffee. Good bathroom. More expensive than others we stayed which were similarly placed. No key card so you have to buzz twice each time to get in. Exterior is covered in scaffolding although we were not aware of any work going on.

I've been there three nights with a friend of mine. First of all, the room was way different from the one you can see immediatly here in the tripadvisor profile. I can tell that anyway it is very clean and the room smells good. There was anyway a big problem. Every single day there was someone playing the piano all afternoon long. It was very annoying, since we couldnt sleep and rest.

The location was excellent and The staff were friendly and knowledgeable and provided some good eating places to go. 24 hour manned front desk as you are not allowed to take your key with you. I emailed the Hostal via twice before we left asking for a double bed - the only response we got was will be allocated on arrival and true to form as we arrived at 20.30 no double rooms were available. We ended up pushing the beds together. The room and bathroom were tiny and look nothing like the pictures shown on and the walls were paper thin. We were woken early 2 mornings by TV and talking from the room next door. You even had to pay EUR100 to use the safe deposit box and there is a huge fine if you forget your password and they have to break in - we didn't use. There was also a large noisy air-con unit on our balcony. This is a Hostal and has a TV room but no restaurant or bar. It is also on the second floor so accessing via the ground floor front door you take the lift or stairs to the Hostal. the rest of the building is apartments. It all just looked dated and dingy although the room was cleaned daily. The description we subsequently found in our guide book said "This was once a brothel catering for wealthy clientele that included members of Spain's aristocracy. Signs of its history include frescoes depicting women striking seductive poses. The location near the Gran Via is excellent." This just about sums the place up. At about £75 per night room only definitely not considered good value in my books

The service was awful from check-in to check-out. The whole place belongs in the 70s/80s. Our room was very poor for the price we paid. It did not resemble any of the photos. The towels are so old and hard that they are unusable... bring your own if you book. The cleaning women were very nice but the men at the reception were hard to deal with. It is absolutely not worth the price we paid (80 Euro per night for 2 single beds).

Loved the location and service here. This is my second time in a month. 58 euros for a room with 3 beds is good. The hostal has good room service. Concierge is important for me as they set the tone. Location is unbelievable. Close to airport bus service and all great things are within 20 min walk from here. Shopping street behind, bars, clubs and cafes within 2 min and 5 min from the Grand Via metro and hop in hop off

There's so much I could say about this place but for once I'll keep it short and sweet. Room. 10 Cleanliness. 10 Peace and quiet. 10 Staff. 10 Location. 11 Don't take my word for it. Going to Hostal Greco.

This hotel has an excellent location in Madrid. Everything at few steps away (shopping streets where you can find Primark, restaurants, pharmacies, bookshops). Few minutes walk from El Corte Ingles, Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor. The receptionists are very friendly. The room is quite, you don't hear noise from the streets as I thought by reading other reviews but maybe noise from other room in case your neighbors were noisy but luckily we didn't have this problem, There is enough space in the room. Soap and shower gel are provided daily. If you are looking for a cheap place at a great location, then definitely this is where you should stay. Next time I visit Madrid I will definitely book this hotel.

I stood about a week and a half and it was great, it's a step away pretty much to every thing, they helped us in any question we had or anything we needed !!! There are tons of bars, groceries and pharmacys around in case you need anything !!

The hotel is situated at second floor of a building in Calle de las Infantas, just one roadaway from Gran Via. Despite the outside aspect, inside the hotel is clean and the personnel is helpful. Our room was basic with no fancy, but it had all needed stuff, even if the bathroom was quite small. Two bad points: you have to pay your stay in advance, and beware if you are planning to stay on saturday's nights and mind to sleep: the hotel is situated in the Chueca district (gay district with lots of gay nightclubs around) which can be very noisy.

We found this Hostal in the Eyewitness Guide to Madrid and were intrigued as in former times it's claim to fame was as a brothel for the Aristocracy. Those days are long gone and the hotel has lots of character and is spotlessly clean. The staff were extremely friendly courteous and helpful. The hotel is very well situated being a few metres from Gran Via and a few more metres to Puerta del Sol. We booked online at a very good rate and the booking process was very smooth. There is an English speaking Telephone Number too. Would thoroughly recommend this Hotel
