Hotel staff very friendly and within walking distance to see Andre Rieu live concert in Maastricht and river cruise trips where we went on 3 different trips. The hotel was in walking distance to the train station.
Like everyone else, we were in Maastricht for the André Rieu concert. And like all hotels, the Bastion took advantage of that, as we paid 3-times the amount they are charging today. Staff were friendly and welcoming. However, the fire alarm went off one night during our stay and not a member of staff could be seen and no announcements could be heard to direct guests to safety. Thankfully it was a false alarm. The room we had was comfortable enough but despite being billed as a 4* hotel, it fell short on some amenities. Bathroom towels were threadbare. Only 2 coffee pods were provided, and when we requested more one evening, we were told they had been locked up! Secure parking can be bought for 15 euros per night. Situated a short walk from the Town house and about a 20-minute walk from the Vrijthof square, we had many pleasant strolls passing busy restaurants en route. Right across from the hotel is the Penitents gate leading to the Sphinx passage where there is an excellent display of the history of the ceramic industry, which we only discovered on our last evening. Definitely worth a visit.
We stayed here for the Andre Rieu concert. The hotel was full ( as were all the hotels in the city, of course. A Bastion is a part of a fortification and that was the immediate impression of the hotel. The lounge, though comfortable, is very dark and gloomy and no-where in the hotel is very light or welcoming. Unfortunately, for the Bastion, we had stayed the previous night in the Holiday Inn Express in Sloterdijk and, in almost all of the comparisons, the Bastion came off worst! Firstly, of course, it was almost exactly double the price for a 'de-luxe' room with no breakfast included! We could find no sign of what luxury we were paying for! The room was very small, and did, admittedly have a Nespresso machine but if we wanted tea (I don't drink coffee) or more pods (there were only two provided), we had to go back to reception to collect supplies. We were given two bottles of water a day as well. There was only one pillow per bed and no more available. We met one couple who had borrowed cushions from the lounge to make sleeping more comfortable. The towels were thin, very small and very ragged - the sort I give to the animal charity to dry the dogs on! The only toiletries provided were a cheap shower gel/shampoo combination, small bars of soap and a box of tissues. The room was air-conditioned but the windows did not open at all. There was a tiny, short hanging space, no drawers to put clothes in although there was a safe and, for some reason TWO fridges (we assumed one was broken) The breakfast was £14.95 each and the only addition to the selection at the Holiday Inn was fried eggs/omelettes and bacon and it was self-service (apart from the cooking of the eggs) just the same. We felt that the hotel really missed an opportunity to make some extra profit by closing the bar at 23.30 as usual. All of the residents were at the concert, I am sure, which finished after midnight and we all gave our Euros to bars in the roads and squares leading back to the hotel! It would have been nice to walk back and share a drink with other guests in the bar. The staff were friendly and the room was clean. All of the amenities of the town were in easy walking distance - especially the river and all the walks, boat trips and restaurants associated with it. The market is just a couple of minutes walk away, as are all the shops and the main square. Clearly, if you are going to the concert you will expect to have to pay top price for rooms. However, we were most disappointed in this hotel - which lists itself as 4-star. It, quite clearly, isn't and you will also be disappointed if you go there expecting 4-star facilities and standards.
The hotel is situated close to the river as well as to the sights of Maastricht. Everything is within the walking distance. The room nr. 234 was big enough, breakfast was OK but it was quite full at 9,00 when all the seniors arrived. So the selection was poor that time, but if we came earlier, everything was OK. The room service was not very helpful, she asked us to leave the room at 11,00 otherwise she will not make it.
excellent venue for Andre Rieu concert, clean tidy comfortable and staff very approachable and helpful. Easy walking distance to all tourist sights. would certainly go again.quite a distance from coach station but can be walked in about half an hour
For a weekend away with our two children (aged 6 and 4), we absolutely wanted a family room, big enough for us all. Unfortunately family rooms are very difficult to find in Maastricht. The fact that the Bastion has these was actually the reason we decided to stay there. The hotel is decent, but by no means is it a luxury hotel. If you are used to 4* or more, you will not be happy here. However, if all you want id a decent family hotel, in a good location, for a reasonable price - I highly recommend this hotel. The hotel is located between the Bassin and Markt, which is a lovely short walk from the Vrijthof. If you visit by car, there is a paid parking that charges €15 per day if you stay at the hotel. I was not impressed by the beds, which were far too soft. But overall, it was a good visit.
I’m writing this review partly on behalf on my parents, part on my own. My parents stayed here for a weekend out of town as it was my dad’s birthday. They absolutely loved the hotel and the premises. Rooms were spotless and breakfast was delicious. Because it was my dad’s birthday I arranged with the manager before their arrival to have a bottle of wine delivered to their room on my dad’s birthday, as I live abroad. All was arranged and communication with the management in advance was excellent and very understanding. I really appreciate how the management and team dealt with my request. Although this review was written on my account even though my parents stayed there, I must say, excellent hotel and very professional management. Very pleased!!
We liked our room. The beds were comfortable and everything was clean. The breakfast room could be nicer. There are only tables with chairs and no decoration which gives a cold atmosphere . A big plus is the underground garage.
Nice place, with comfortable beds and well located in the northern part of the town. Staff was kind as we were also able to leave our bags a little longer after check out on the day of the departure . Nice.
The best part of this hotel is its location. It is situated next to both the university and Market Square. At the same time it's quite far from the railway station. Breakfast is quite good. Service is fine as well. Price is reasonable. Two major negatives are (1) windows - they can't be opened and (2) air-conditioning - it does not work the way it should work. So to get fresh air in our room was a problem. Otherwise, the hotel is good. Recommended.
