Before we visited Lyon, we researched the places we wanted to visit and came to the conclusion that we had to find somewhere that was central with all the main sites within easy reach. This lovely hotel is just situated on the corner of Place des Jacobins. We were given an upgrade on our room on the first floor with views over towards the square. The room was lovely and the bathroom with its huge Art Deco mirror and pristine white marble, was immaculate. We were right to base ourselves at this hotel. Within a few minutes we could walk over the footbridge to the old part of town. Walking south, we were at the magnificent Place Bellecour. For shopping we were ideally placed with Printemps Department store to the rear of our hotel. More importantly there were many restaurants within easy reach. On arrival and throughout our stay the reception staff were ever so helpful. They never hesitated to help us, whether phoning for taxis or booking a table in a nearby restaurant. We also took breakfast in the hotel and would thouroughly recommend it. If you want to stay in the centre of Lyon, you would be hard pushed to find a better hotel. The reception staff really were helpful and friendly and for us made the stay even better.
I could nit pick; flimsy plastic cups rather than glasses in the room, very few hangers in the closet and nowhere else to put clothes, a cracked wash basin, etc. But the bottom line is we had a very pleasant stay in this very well located hotel. The staff were pleasant, helpful and spoke English. The room was clean, spacious and the water pressure was good (a pet peeve of mine in Europe). And the location was so good we walked everywhere. The old town is just a stroll away across the river. And even such sites as the Museum des Beaux Arts are not very far. DO book a Privilege room. They are usually just a few Euros more on most booking sites and they are bigger. DON’T book breakfast at the hotel. You’re going to eat enough in Lyon anyway. There is an impressive coffee machine in the room. And if you must eat something first thing, there are plenty of nearby cafes offering better value.
The hotel is ideally situated, close to two metro stations and a short walk across the bridge to the old town of Lyon. Very friendly and welcoming staff. We had 3 nights in a classic room, with hindsight, prestige would have perhaps been better as those rooms are bigger. Room was kept very clean and bed comfortable. Tea/coffee facilities and fridge with free bottled water, replenished daily was a bonus. There is also a digital safe. We didn't have breakfast as not hungry from previous nights dinner! There is a wide choice of restaurants, bars etc nearby. We would recommend this hotel and would definitely stay there again next time we visit Lyon.
We arrived to a room that had French doors and princess balconies and was so lovely we were thrilled. Teh hotel is it intimate and full of character. You will love it. Be prepared though. You and I know it's 2017 and Airconditioning should be a belt o be controlled within each room however, not so it this hotel. The a/c was changed to heat because, as we were told, it was ready for winter. However, a daily temperature that saw sunshine and warthog meant that our room was like an over when we returned form sightseeing early evenings. We opened our beautiful French doors to let cool air into the room but it was still incredibly hot. Needless to say, while I we definitely recommend the hotel we would say that you make sure of the weather when you visit or you too will be "sleepless in Lyon." Wait until you see Lyon, it is perfection, it is is beautiful and should be on your bucket list. It will be in your heart forever.
It is an old hotel that needs remodeling. The room I stayed was quite small with an queen bad, tiny bathroom, just enough for one guest. As I was alone, it was OK, but the space was just enough for my one peace of luggage. The quality of bed and pillows are good, the room quite and wifi is good. It is central located, near to restaurants, shops and touristic sites. Service is good.
Mercure hotels can be quite varying in quality. This is one of the best in Lyon, as it combines great location and high-quality beds with calm, for an easy access and a quality of rest which thus allow the guests to enjoy Lyon to its full. It's pretty stylish too.
Pros: Location, very cheerful staff, breakfast. Cons: A very disappointing 2 night stay. Arrived in taxi to be greeted by.... no one. No door man, no one to assist with luggage. Booked a “privilege” room and found a very dated room. No where to set luggage, vinyl chairs, the smallest tub and slipperiest shower I’ve encountered. AND NO air conditioning in a sweltering high 70s day with sun streaming in windows. After complaining a table fan was delivered! Sleeping was near impossible, couldn’t open windows because street lights and very loud street noise. Stuffy and hot. Not a pleasant experience.
From the start, the hotel entrance impressed us, with its elegance, and location surrounded by designer shops. The room was well sized, with plenty of storage space, widescreen TV, and a large bathroom and walk in shower. It was a change from the expected, having tea and coffee making facilities in the room, plus a fridge. The complimentary bottles of water were a nice touch given the heat of late September. The safe int the room was also a bonus. The breakfast buffet was very high quality, with delicious hot sausages, bacon and egg, fresh pastries, bread, fruit, yoghurts, cheeses and cereals - everything you could want. Being able to squeeze your own orange juice, or have a Nespresso coffee was also a touch of class. To top it all, our room had a small balcony, and looked on to the fountain at Place Des Jacobins - what a view. Having the shops, plus the variety of restaurants on the Rue Merciere only a short walk away, and being able to walk to the old town, and metros nearby, the hotel was an ideal launchpad for discovering the attractions of Lyon.
This is a compact little hotel located right in the middle of Lyon - just off the gorgeous Place de Jacobins. The staff are outstanding - kind, professional and extremely helpful. Great shopping and restaurants in the surrounding blocks. Our room was definitely on the small side, but quite well appointed and comfortable. Good breakfast, and super breakfast-room attendant. Would absolutely stay here again.
This hotel is perfectly placed for enjoying the centre of beautiful Lyon. The staff are all pleasant, welcoming and very helpful. The (public) car park was a little difficult to get to and from but that's a small price to pay for the chance to stay in this fantastic hotel. We can't wait to stay there again!
