Stayed here for a short break whilst visiting Lyon. Lovely, welcoming hotel. Our room was well appointed, great bathroom and toiletries. Quiet and relaxing. Good position for accessing Lyon, a few minutes walk to Bellecourt and its shops and restaurants. Hope to stay again fairly soon.
Visiting Lyon for a business trip decided to stay at the Sofitel hotel since the brand Sofitel is equivalent to a deluxe and luxury hotels. Unfortunately, not the Sofitel in Lyon!!! I book a superior room for two nights and they offer me a room for a disabled person, meaning no proper shower or bath or toilet. I complain three times to three different people at the reception and everyone was giving me different excuse!!! (Sorry, we are full and was the last room / all rooms are the same / sorry we make a mistake, but we cannot change it today maybe tomorrow but you must pay extra for a junior suite!!!! Overall the hotel needs a full renovation and improve a lot the f&b quality and service. Very sad because the restaurant at the top floor have amazing view, but it is in a very bad condition. The breakfast is for 3 star hotels and sure not 5* Fully disappointed and I am wondering how comes Sofitel chain allows such low standards as should be more strict with the overall standards.
This hotel is more like a boutique hotel than a 5 star business hotel. The visit is more personal, the staff very helpful and price very reasonable. The rooftop restaurant was closed during our stay late August/September. We occasionally had croissants and coffee in the lobby at a modest price but did not have the expensive buffet breakfast because we wanted to save room for lunch & dinner in fabulous Lyon. Location is within walking distance to Bouchons, Le Sud, and Vieux Lyon. We stayed for 6 nights and enjoyed every one. Don't miss the markets!
Well located on the east bank of the Rhone in Lyon's Bellecour district - walking distance to city hall shops bistros and restaurants. Check in was seamless - arranged by Tauck who had organized trip for us. Fabulous views of the city from the 8th floor restauarant. We loved Lyon and plan to return (Paris is too big, too noisy, too polluted just too, too --- or perhaps we have been there one too many times) The river tour boats tie up within walking distance of the Sofitel which makes a great starting point for a Rhone cruise.
We booked the Sofitel for a one-night stay to attend a concert in Lyon on that same night. Hotel's location is very central, valet parking was efficient and since we checked-in online, we got the room key in a matter of minutes too. Room was pleasant and well-equiped. Bed was very conmfortable, a Sofitel's trademark!
3 lifts out of 4 were ooo, had to take the service lift to reach the top floor restaurant going through the kitchen, poor welcome and attention from the ´maitre d’hôtel ´ although the rest of the crew was ok. It is really too bad as the food was very good (kudos to the chef) & view on the city outstanding ... the place would require much better service level. And now the bar : terrible ! What a disappointment... should be much more select for the place, definitely not the ambiance of a nice and cosy bar as it should be in such hotel...
I regularly book Sofitel as perhaps the most reliable of all the "chain" hotels and have not been disappointed in Heathrow, Phnomh Penh, Bangkok, or the US. So what a let down to go to Lyon which seems to have lost the plot. We must have got the smallest room in the hotel - not even space for 2 of us to unpack simultaneously - it really shouldn't be sold for double occupancy. Then, my husband was waiting for me in the Lobby, a waiter marched through to the smoking area outside, throwing open the door, and when my husband asked him to close it, he refused, rudely. My husband asked for his name and he said "Antoine, remember me!" So we do. We checked in at 4pm, our friend's room wasn't available until 5. Not very impressive. The only plus was the excellent service in the Coffee Shop, and the delightful manicurist in the Spa. I don't think we'll be back.
The Sofitel Bellecour has some great points but it doesn't merit five star status in my book. The location is outstanding, the facilities pretty good (the fitness centre has natural light if no pool, valet parking works well), and breakfast on the top floor at daybreak is brilliant. However, the rooms are less than generous, the service is efficient but not sympathetic and when things go wrong the response can be unsatisfactory - my wife had to deal with a change of room because of a plumbing leak on our second day. Yes, she got some help to carry our gear but hardly a sincere apology for the inconvenience, and when she asked for a late check out initially the request was turned down. The rooms are decently equipped but mean on the coffee machine (just two capsules) and there's no alcohol in the mini bar if you fancy a beer. The wifi works fine. One delightful aspect is the corridor decoration featuring silk pieces and thereby recognising part of Lyon's heritage. Thoughtful and agreeable. We didn't try the restaurants apart from le petit dejeuner, which is self service from a nice selection of good ingredients (for euros 26), and which can be supplemented by cooked items for an extra charge. Our stay was nice but, alas, not memorable. One plus if you're driving south is that, after once round the block to clear the hotel, you exit straight onto the main drag and are quickly out of town initially following the river.
We stayed at this hotel with some trepidation after reading other reviews. I can only surmise that there are different quality rooms and ours was a good one (does booking direct with the hotel help secure a better room? Maybe?). Everything about this hotel was, for us, perfect. Check-in was friendly, the concierge knowledgeable and helpful, the room well appointed and comfortable (with a coffee machine and complimentary minibar) and whisper quiet. Breakfast was in the rooftop restaurant with fabulous views and great food selection. We would certainly stay again.
I can hear sounds of doors closing and opening also footsteps and apparently voice from other neighboring room, that I prefer not to hear. I'm sure there's no room insulation or it's inadequately installed. The breakfast is delicious and variety of food available, service good but noisy neighbor ruined the stay and I think earplugs should be one of the accessories given in the room. Other than the noise disturbance and old elevator that is a bit scary for me who's been stuck in an elevator before and the small space kind of crammed. I have nothing to complain about the room is beautiful and I love how they have soft drinks and juices in the minibar that they give for free without charge.
