We are a family of 4 . We , the parents , are In Our thirties and our children are 8 and 10 . We have been coming to this resort for the last 7 years, ever since they opened it . The resort itself is top notch . The grounds are kept beautiful, the rooms are huge, always very clean and the food and drinks are great . The only complaint we ever had was that there was nothing really going on around the pools and common areas during the day . AND THEN CAME JOSE LUIS !!!! Aka J-Lu , well let me tell you this man is the new entertainment director and he is doing one hell of a job . He is doing a great job of bringing people of all age groups together to interact during the days . He deals a mean hand of black jack and I am already anticipating our ping pong rematches next winter when we come back. J-Lu is great with the kids and he actually went out of his way to introduce our children to other children on the resort and as anyone who travels with kids knows when your children make friends the parents vacation finally starts ! Overall , another great experience at Grand Solmar thanks for making this a home away from home .
Our stay at Grand Solmar Land's End was just short of spectacular. I say that because everything about this property and it's staff is not short of spectacular. I am primarily writing this review to address the one area we felt could be directed in a more, shall we say, user friendly way. Our stay encompassed a ten night duration which included daily visits to the LaBrisas pool. Each and every day we were welcomed by a very accommodating but different waitperson. We have found that while staying at other resorts we were able to gain a rapport with somewhat consistent servers at designated areas that we frequented. I understand some areas of the resort provide higher volume and in turn increased tips for staff and the need to rotate them throughout the property in fairness but maybe consideration could be given to a weekly rotation perhaps. It adds to the feeling of being pampered when you are addressed by name by a wait staff who has come to know you through repeated visits to their area. We would appreciate a management response to this small issue. Overall, we can't say enough about the grandeur of GSL's setting and all that it encompasses and look forward to another marvelous vacation in the not too distant future.
Most luxury resorts have a very spectacular entry, including the sister Playa Grande resort. But Grand Solmar has a very plain entry, unless you are really turned on by a dribbly fountain and a terra cotta wall. Once beyond the entry however, the spectacular is apparent. Uniquely sited between the weathered rocks of the tip of Baja Sur and the surf, this resort is THE southern tip of the Baja. Closest resort to hiking Mount Solmar. Workmanship, finishes, amenities & staff are excellent. We have stayed here for the past several years because of the proximity to the marina and the super, super attention of the staff. One bedroom units are large with 2 full bathrooms, full kitchens, large balconies & views of the ocean, particularly if you are above the fourth floor. It would have been better if building B1 had never been built since it blocks the late afternoon sun from the main pool and cuts off most of the resort from the sunset, but occupants in that building would probably disagree. There is a sunset pool on the west side. Most food & drinks items are more expensive than at the sister resorts Playa Grande & Solmar and much more than at the marina, but sometimes we just wanted the convenience & ambiance of staying at the resort. Anyone staying at Grand Solmar can access Solmar or Playa Grande facilities. A meal/drink all inclusive plan is available. The Sports Bar has a bad design unless you happen to snag a seat at the bar. For the rest of the space there are only 2 undersized tv’s and the seating layout & style generally not conducive to watching a game. This resort is not that great for older kids unless you bring your own nerf ball; few activities compared to Playa Grande. There is an interior little kids play area. Beach access is sometimes limited by high water. Surf here is dangerous and not for swimming. If planning a wedding, make sure the southerly deck area is available for some spectacular photos. After hurricane Odile some of the spa structures here were removed but it is still a great spot. Drink prices (in US dollars, all include 16% IVA tax but not tip): Margarita, bloody mary, $14, Mojito, dirty monkey, miami vice, $13; Beer, $6; Coke, $4; Orange juice, $6; Some food prices (in US dollars, all include 16% IVA tax but not tip): Nachos with chicken, steak tacos, quesadillas with chicken, $16; shrimp cocktail, $15; caesar salad, $11; BLT, $12; french toast, $12; breakfast buffet, $25; rib eye steak with shrimp dinner, $69; italian buffet, $40; tres leches dessert, $8.
Our family enjoyed the perfect day with a cabana arranged by June & pool service provided by Claudia. The ocean’s powerful waves make an excellent back drop to any read. A beautiful way to take in Cabo’s whale watching. There are 2 happy hours. 11-12 and 4-5.
The entire staff is exceptional! They are attentive and always wanting to make sure you have everything you want or need for your stay. The grounds are immaculate, pools plentiful and food extensive and delicious!. Perfect for couples and families this resort raises the bar for resorts in Cabo Ann's matches many worldwide. We will be back.
Grand Solmar is a 5 star resort. Well maintained, high level of service, nice views of the ocean from several edge-less pools. Strongly recommend going the La Roca for dinner your first night at sunset. Evani was our waiter and gave us great service. Alonso, La Roca's sommelier recommended a great red wine from Guadalupe valley Pool service has 2 for 1 happy hour from 11-12pm and 5-6pm. We hung out at the Sunset pool and shared a couple of great sunsets. Being on the Pacific side of Cabo there were boats and whales close to shore. I would bring a pair of binoculars to get a better view of whales Cabo businesses, Tours, and Grand Solmar use US dollars. Don't bring or get many Pesos. At the Grand Solmar you need dollars to pay for the spa and ordering tours. There is a nice beach, but you are not allowed nor should go into the ocean. There are strong rip tides. The only beach activity that I saw was people fishing from the beach. The big plus is that it is a private beach so there are no vendors. The hotel is about 10 min from the closest end of the harbor. It is a short walk to many restaurants. The rooms all have kitchens, so I would take a cab to Walmart to stock up. There is a good liquor store in the same mall where I got more Guadalupe valley wine. We got a cab and for $26 he took us, waited for us and then brought us back to the hotel
Our friends have a timeshare here and invite us to join them most years. We are very lucky! This property is very classy, high end, and mostly comfortable. We were in a one bedroom suite with a pull down bed. The beds are very comfortable the pull down beds are not. I slept on the couch. My body is super picky about sleeping, my husband was comfortable. It is getting time for some items like rugs, decorative pillows and the foam in the chair and lounge cushions to be replaced. The sheets and towels are top notch. All the employees are fantastic, especially Robert at the front entrance. We hope to return many times.
While vacationing at Grande Solmar we had two great meals at La Brisas with Juan Carlos as our waiter. Not only was the food exceptional but Juan Carlos could not do enough to accommodate us! He is a fantastic waiter! We will be back!
the current activities with Juan Luis, better known as J. Lu, are outstanding. There is Ping-pong, Beach Volleyball, Spanish classes, Card games ( usually Blackjack), Spanish Loteria (bingo) which helps with learning Spanish. J. Lu is a delightful young man who remembers everyones name, makes all feel welcome, is kind and joyful.
My husband and I were lucky enough to be able to travel back to Grand Solmar, Land's End for the third year in a row. We love most everything about this luxury resort, The fact that all rooms, from studios up to the Presidential Penthouse suites have ocean views, is just the beginning. The restaurants are all top notch (I have reviewed them separately), the resort is immaculately clean, and the staff - all so very helpful and friendly. They truly go out of their way to make sure each guest is having the best vacation possible. This resort is walking distance to town and the marina. No car is needed, unless you want to travel further out. Cabs are readily available at the resort entrance, if you do not wish to walk. Almost everyone here speaks some English, and most are much more fluent in English than we are in Spanish! Several staff members - Francisco at the main pool, Cesar at La Roca, Antionio and Vanessa at Don Luis, and June, the amazing pool concierge, deserve special recognition. These people excel at creating special atmosphere for guests to fully enjoy the restaurant/resort. The food is very good here, with our favorite restaurant being La Roca. The poolside service is great, and we had lunch each day lounging and enjoying the view. The whales always put on a good show! I have never stayed anywhere that has made me feel so valued as a guest. Attention to detail is what Grand Solmar does so well If you want a vacation where all of your needs are anticipated, where you can stay at a safe and clean and outrageously beautiful setting, this is your dream come true.
