The Prince of Wales is old and a bit tatty, but could not fault the cleanliness, the size of the room or the friendliness of the staff. The manager put on welcome drinks at the door every night which was a nice touch. The hilarious and wonderful Freddy was in charge of this and it became more of a feature each night. The price charged for the Open week was quite a lot for the standard of the hotel.
Victorian style hotel ,central location ,rooms are big and clean. Bar is great, comfortable with drinks available very nicely done , I have to mention Mourad the manager , he did great job also big thanks to all bar staff Luigi, Tina, Freddy. They are a credit to the hotel. Definitely I will stay again .
Arrived after long delays on the roads on Friday - last rooms left in the town - rooms did the job, good breakfast & no hassle ordering a late bar steak. Bar staff really friendly & helpful. Would happily book again. Thank you Tina & the gang!!
I recently stayed at the Prince of Wales for just over a week on business. I'm not going to pass comment not the hotel itself, I'll leave that to others, however I felt compelled to write my first ever Trip Advisor review so I could commend the outstanding attitude and service of the staff. I've been fortunate to have stayed in a number of World Class hotels over the years, and none can match the warm and friendly service I received at the Prince of Wales. The staff are an absolute credit to themselves and the hotel. If anyone from the Britain group is reading this I would certainly encourage them to recognise the exemplary contribution the PoW team make to their business. They absolutely deserve it.
On suite room ,Clean and of a good size. Good bar facilities. Full English breakfast as well as continental . Ideal for the British Open which is why we were there at this time. We had b&b but half board is available if required.
Great stay, staff are very friendly and helpful! Management Mourad is exceptional! Bar staff Tina,Luigi and Freddy are great people and made my stay very welcoming! Definitely recommend, would stay again.
The staff were amazingly helpful and the bar staff were fantastic! Thankyou Mourad, Tina Luigi and Freddy for a amazing time at the bar! 100% recommend here this place was amazing! My room was fabulously clean, well updated and the tea &a coffee were fully topped up with plenty of everything.
Stayed at the PoW hotel for 5 days in July this year and frankly do not think I would stay here again. We (a party of 3) stayed in a single and double room and whilst the rooms were clean they were very dated and in desperate need of upgrading. The hotel clientele were very elderly and having the main lift not working did not bode well for the rest of the trip. We were assured that the lift would be fixed the next day and as 1 of our party was on the 4th floor we requested she be moved only to be told the hotel was full (the service lift only went to the 3rd floor and only held about 4 people.) The lift still was not fixed by the time our holiday ended. The food in the restaurant was bland and fairly basic and was of a buffet style which was not very appetising. The fried breakfast was fine but there always seemed a shortage of fresh fruit. It seemed that you had to ask the waitresses for everything....fresh tea / coffee, milk, cutlery and fresh toast. All in all, quite a tiring holiday. Not at all what we expected.
My brother and sister in law invited my wife and i for the carvery lunch at this really rather tired hotel in the resort of Southport. The dining room and hallway were full when we arrived and although unsure if most of the people present were residents of the hotel, diners were certainly enjoying their food. We had a variety of starters, including soup, salmon and new potatoes with salad, in addition to plates of fruit and other rather nice looking combinations. The mains included the usual roast, in addition also available were rice dishes, including curry and pasta and mince dishes. Vegetarian dishes were also available. Finally we were tempted by the rice pudding, and cheese with crackers also lots of different flavoured ice creams, cakes and cheesecake. We certainly didn't feel hurried or that the table was needed and the quality of the food and variety was really very good for the price. Staff were excellent and cleared our table in between courses.
The room that was allocated to us was bad. Small, smelly, dirty and very tired. We were very disappointed. The TV didn't work and the window couldn't be opened. We complained and was put in the most amazing room ever. Still a bit tired but beautiful. Breakfast and the staff were good.
