Brilliant location, perfect for lime street station and city centre. Nice old building in a nice setting. Good value, good service from reception staff. Room was tidy and clean. The hotel is a little dated and could do with some simple features such as flowers on a table in the corridors and artworks on the walls. The front doorway area smelt of smoke. There was no plug in the bathroom to allow me to have a bath and there was some leaking from the shower head handle. With some investment this could be a wonderful hotel. Currently a good value and clean place to stay with wonderful location

Awful, falsely advertised, do not return

Completely false advertising online, the hotel is extremely run down, very poor service and very slow. The rooms are awful, we had 2 guest rooms and one of the two had the ceiling falling down in the corner should not be fit for sleeping in, the window in the other room was jammed open, as if it’s been open 10 years and never closed Extremely overpriced considering the state of the hotel, I do not recommend staying here, for £170 a night you can find somewhere much better Beds uncomfortable, only offer you 1 pillow, no plug sockets next to the beds for phone chargers, lamps in the rooms and no ceiling lights, one of the lamps didn’t even work as the bulb was blown, won’t be returning, Not much breakfast Choice considering the price of rooms, the juices tasted horrible and milk had a bad twang to it, never again

The hotel is very convenient for getting to the railway station, shopping, restaurants and buses, everything is within a five minute walk of the hotel. The only thing I can say about the hotel is that its a bit dated and could do with modern windows, but because its a listed building this could be very expensive.

I got exactly as I expected a small room clean and affordable in the centre of the town. Down stairs was unexpected but beautiful part of history with luxurious sitting rooms

Although the building is amazing, the room was bare with not even night lamps on night tables and looking very run down. Bathroom was renovated but shower had nowhere to put soap or shampoo bottle. Only one double elevator for a lot of guests housed on 5-6 floors

This hotel is a unique building full of faded grandeur with an interesting history. Cheap and central for Liverpool it provided a bed to sleep in. There is no servicing of rooms during your stay and if you need any new towels, tea or milk etc you must fetch it from reception. My first room was enormous but had a water leak from the roof that looked as if it had been there a very long time, and the shower was cold. The problem was not fixed despite assurances from reception and as a result I was moved to another room. The marble lined corridors were magnificent but could have done with a hoover, and as they had no windows or access to fresh air they were very musty smelling. I have no problem with less servicing of rooms, but I stayed 4 days with my friend in a twin room and I would have liked a cloth and cleaning product so I could wipe around the sink and shower once I had used it and some way of cleaning our coffee cups too. The Concierge was the best, really friendly and knowledgable with a lovely sense of humour and plenty of anecdotes. The hotel is central to all attractions and they are all within walking distance. The area around the hotel is not nice, to enter it you must navigate all the people sitting outside smoking, this makes the entrance and reception smell too. I had a lovely break in Liverpool and probably got what I paid for, I would look for something a little more modern next time.

Pet friendly and clean room. Lovely comfortable bed. Shower did not drain very well and we could not have a long shower as the base started to fill with water and overflow!! We were woken at 7am to banging and hammering!! The breakfast for substantial and good. We will return despite these issues.

Getting better

Compared to a few years ago it's clear Britannia have upped their game. Rooms and facilities have been modernised and look better. Our room was a mix between the old and new. A clearly modern bathroom with rainfall shower and huge bedroom with high ceiling and older storage facilities. The only complaint the curtain in the bath room didn't fully cover the window

Stayed in the Adelphi for 2 nights in September, regardless of all the negative comments. I found the hotel charming, and the staff were very welcoming and accommodating. My room was on the 4th floor, and not the alleged haunted 3rd floor. The room itself was huge, as was the bathroom, both had been refurbished recently . My only gripe was that the bed and pillows were both quite hard, so not a great sleep both nights. On my last night I walked through the lobby where I was confronted by 2 homeless women sat in the armchairs, asking for money. The guy on the desk could see this, but unfortunately did nothing about it. Overall, for £50 per night, you can't go wrong.

Room was very spacious and comfortable, however the water in the walk in shower cubicle took an eternity to drain and had to keep turning the shower off or it would have spilled over the lip and flooded the whole toilet.Mentioned it to the staff at the reception desk but said the whole floor would have to be taken up to repair that, but could offer us another room but not necessary the same space. We managed as we liked the location of the room ( first floor) and just put loads of towels down on shower / toilet floor in case it spileed over but not an ideal compromise. Also lots of foreign people hanging round and sitting on the steps at the entrance to the hotel drinking bottles of beer lager vodka, you name it and smoking cannibis, especially late at night, and none of the staff be it reception staff or security staff for that matter seemed remotely interested in trying to move them on.I appreciate refugee and homeless people are a world wide problem not just to Liverpool in 2025 but i didnt see the same amount of drug using alchaolic people sitting outside any other hotels as much as ours.Needless to say as a regular visitor to Liverpool(30 years and counting) my wife and i will not be returning to the Adelphi any time soon, which is a SHAME as the history of the place is amazing.
