I had an overnight stay in room 43, located on the 4th floor at the back of the property. The general overriding factor in my review it that the hotel management don't seem to have pride in what they have, as witnesses to the over all condition of the property. The property is "tired" and seemingly stuck in the 70's and needs to be pulled kicking and screaming into the new millennium. POSITIVES: Great central location, easy walking distances to most attractions Front desk check in team member BUT THEN THERE'S THIS No apparent property security - you can walk from the street to the elevator and stairwell with passing any hotel employees No deadbolt on room door Maintenance and/or updates don't appear to have be a concern or priority Badly stained carpeting and bedspread in the room Air conditioner is a noisy air mover that doesn't appear to condition i.e. chill the air No television services at all. Not that I'd use it, but still

Be prepared for an experience of the high life as it was lived in the 1930's but with little modernisation since. Staff were attentive. Room was spacious with a fabulous view over Rossio and the Castle. Breakfast was fine. Sitting in the large lounge felt like being in a film set. We had left the hotel we had booked and been cheated so we were glad to find this in such a great spot. There is one stairway up from the street then a lift up to Reception. The street is lined with restaurants and has a great atmosphere. The square over the road is where you catch the tram. We had a perfectly lovely stay here and remember it more fondly than other fancy shcmantsy hotels we stayed in!

Hardy ever I write anything negative about hotels i review but this time I need to. I booked a superior castle view room well i advance through the hotel webpage. I do realize it is not the most modern and posh hotel however its location and room with a view justified ... 239USD expense. Upon arrival we were given a traditional old school key to.... small, dark room at the back of the hotel....initially i wasnt sure if that is ok or not but I verified the print out i went down to receptuon where they admitted it is not the room i booked. But they overbooked and had nothing to offer. Ok. Well i wasnt in a mood for argument i i asked for fair treatment and for positive solution and went for a dinner. Later that ńight i got verbal confirmation the cost should be reimbursed. That was repeated next day. The price difference between a regular and superior room was to be refunded. "Just on monday as it is saturday and our Booking dep does not work." Until today i heard nothing from them.To summarise: they are not fair, avoid this place.

Access from Rossio square is up a flight of stairs (with cases) to elevator. Brilliant central location for access to all the many attractions Lisbon has to offer. Spacious room with ensuite, twin beds, mini bar. Tea/coffee facilities in the room would have been handy. Especially as the coffee machine in the bar was out of service. Advertised Satellite TV was out of service, too. Lovely old building in desperate need of investment to bring its facilities up to the same standard as the excellent staff.

The location is excellent..right on the plaza Rossio. But the accommodations are old and basic. There was an old TV in the room, but no reception for the entire week we stayed there. WIFI was spotty...about 50% of the time. If you used the tiny bars of soap, or the plastic cups, there were not replaced. The breakfast room served scrambled eggs and bacon every day, along with cereals and breads. The staff is very friendly and helpful with tourist information.

We requested a room on the plaza side of hotel, probably costs a bit more, but there is so much activity. It is great to watch. Some rooms have small balconies. Location is great - right in the center of the city, easy access to metro and Bairro Alto. The hotel needs an upgrade. We were told by the very friendly staff that in December there would be major renovations. Room was large and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent.

My wife and I stayed here 5 nights in March, and enjoyed staying at this hotel. We had a comfortable room overlooking the Square, but got a good nights sleep. If you want a bland featureless hotel that could be anywhere from Oslo to Madrid - go elsewhere. The location was first rate and the breakfast was excellent. The airport bus stopped right outside = couldn't have been closer without mounting the pavement. We will certainly stay again.

There were many things in my room that were broken and the room generally was dirty and damaged (e.g., the walls and doors). This was a supposedly up-market hotel that was quite expensive, more than I would normally pay. For the 4 nights, I paid between $200 and $300 per night for a total of $930. Insane. For example, in the room these things were damaged: -- air-conditioning (non-functioning. I let the manager know but they didn't do anything) -- TV (broken, non-functioning) -- safe (not usable, lock missing) -- light switch hanging out of wall by loose wires in bathroom (dangerous) -- gross build-up on floor of bathroom around toilet -- leaking bath and rotting door from the water damage -- cracks up walls in bedroom in many places and through tiles in bathroom. The carpet was stained throughout the hotel and the walls were battered. This place was a complete dump! The staff were friendly and the location is good. Otherwise, a filthy dump of a place.

Friendly staff, pretty tiles in the bathroom, and a great location to everything, but that is where the good review stops. The rooms needs a serious upgrade. There are a few outstanding pieces of furniture that with some love, could be stunning. The rest of the room is just not good. The beds have like a plastic cover before the OLD mattress so when you move at night you hear plastic. The security of the rooms is non-existent (see pictures below), and the bathroom is a mess! Mold, broken tiles, long dark hairs everywhere, I have blonde hair, and my husband has short hair, so we know they aren't ours. Bring your own hair dryer because the one in the bathroom will burn your hands! The TV is beyond outdated, and the blankets on the bed are just OLD! And the price per night at $189 is just crazy! I love the location here, I love the activity that surrounds the hotel, and the walking distance to restaurants and attractions. Stay here for those reasons, but if I were hotel management, I would close and do a remodel so that your reviews would go through the roof!

The hotel was close to transportation, restaurants, shopping, and historic area. The staff was very helpful. Rita was great, we took a tour to Porto with her husband and it was wonderful. The breakfast was very good. The room and bath are good size. We had a balcony to look out on the square which was neat. The negatives , it was noisy but we we so tired it didnt matter much. It is such a neat hotel, but it is quite worn and needs some TLC.
