Hanover Inn Dartmouth4.0 out of 5.0

The Hanover Inn is the best place to stay in the area. The inn is elegant and the rooms very well appointed. The rooms are fresh, crisp and sophisticated. My stay here has always been quiet and welcoming.
While the Inn has the charms one might expect of an historic New England Inn, there are some problems. The heating system feeding my room had an odor that smelled a bit like sewage, as though there were a sewer-gas leak somewhere in the building that feeds into the heating ducts. If it was not gases of that nature, then it was the odor of an aging heating system that perhaps needs some updating. It was not overwhelming, but a nuisance that affected the whole experience.
This place is great for location, amenities, friendliness, cleanliness, restaurant, quiet rooms...I could go on and on. We choose it because it was just about a mile from King Arthur Flour (we were taking a class there), and it was a perfect choice. Every person on staff was professional but also very friendly and warm. The room was comfortable and there were no noises from adjoining rooms or hallway, just lovely and quiet. The food in the restaurant was very good and innovative without being too "chi-chi, froux-froux". They use a lot of food from local farms, etc. but give things a little twist so the dishes are interesting and very tasty.
I've stayed at the Hanover Inn three times in the past year. (Our daughter was looking at Dartmouth and then decided to go there.) Rooms are attractively furnished, spacious enough, and the bathrooms are so crisp and white I'm copying their design for my home. Valets, baggage handlers, front desk: everyone is friendly and professional. After I dropped our daughter at Dartmouth, I spent a sunny afternoon reading the newspaper on Hanover Inn's street side terrace. Bliss.
Loved it! This is the ideal place to stay in Hanover and/or when visiting Dartmouth. Staff is attentive and friendly and you CANNOT BEAT THE LOCATION! The Pines restaurant is superb as well. Great menu and friendly staff. Definitely, the place to be.
Hanover is a small college town. Dartmouth buildings surround The Green at the town center. "The Hanover Inn is a small hotel, but there are those who love it" (Alumni will recognize the previous sentence as a take-off on what Daniel Webster (yes, that Daniel Webster) said about Dartmouth. The Hanover Inn underwent a major renovation in the past few years. I think they held true to the feel of the old hotel, but modernized common areas like the lobby, and the restaurant on the ground floor. Best rooms have a North-facing view of the College Green and Baker Library. Everything in town is a 5-10 minute walk from the Hanover Inn
I absolutely love the Hanover Inn and look forward to staying here when visiting Dartmouth College. It is the best location and the service is always top notch. The restaurant, Pine, is a favorite as well.
We spent one night here on our way down to Cambridge, Mass. We arrived early afternoon and were blue to check in immediately. We were upgraded to a suite overlooking the green and Dartmouth College and were delighted with the extra space. It was moving day at college and there were lots of activities on the green. We went for a lovely walk down to the Connecticut River and visited the boat houses and the River chess for swimming.
Just amazing! Location is ideal. Walked to several restaurants and shopping and of course the Dartmouth campus. Loved our corner suite overlooking Hanover and the Green at Dartmouth. The 2 room suite was extremely comfortable and well designed and just large enough for the 2 of us to love our stay. We actually returned on our trip for another stay in a regular room, just as awesome as the suite. Bed was comfortable. Restaurant, excellent in food quality and staff attentiveness. LOVE the decor of hotel. The valet staff were unbelievably great as we had a LARGE SUV, packed with dorm items and suitcases from multiple people. Just cannot say enough about overall feel of this Inn.
Because of Dartmouth College, this is the best hotel. Location, amenities and parking. They charged $23. a day to park. Hotel in the newer section is nice with a sitting room. Food also is very nice and bed is firm, towels were newer, robe, slippers and bottles of waters! Stay here if you need to be close to the college, this is your hotel. I gave 4 stars because, a hairpin was found on the floor, human hairs on the white bathroom rugs, no replenished of qtips!
