Ramada Encore Geneva3.0 out of 5.0

I usually stay in quite nice hotels - I really like my creature comforts when I travel and you will rarely find me staying in anything other than the best or almost the best. On this occasion, our Easyjet flight from Geneva to London was cancelled and it was total chaos at the Customer Service desk - some three hours later I emerged from battle being told no flights available for 24 hours and they sent us all to a Ramada in the Carouge suburb of Geneva for a free night and dinner and drinks on them which was unexpected from Easyjet. I arrived here after a 20 min. taxi ride in rush hour traffic at 6pm and collapsed until dinner at 8.30 and although the setting isn't very nice - it's by the train tracks and in a conference centre shopping mall type of set up by the Stade de Geneve - if one can turn a blind eye to that and I did because I was exhausted - the rooms were frankly perfect. Clean, shining fabulous wet bathroom and infinity shower - super charged hair dryer and make up mirror, state of the art contemporary taps - shiny aluminium sinks set in glass with smart stone tiles - they have a good interior designer - huge white fluffy towels - great amenities, fluffy pillows with a choice of some 8 different fillings you could order up to your room - crisp clean thick Egyptian cotton sheets with lovely duvet and a comfortable mattress - a transformer for my laptop and a delicious dinner thrown in with aperitifs - excellent front desk service - what more could one ask for on this particular occasion? So Ramada gets five stars for a three star hotel that really deserved four in my view. Impressive - honestly! I was really surprised!
Nice air-conditioned room, breakfast included, excellent service in the hotel; convenient connections around the city by public transport, what more could one ask for?
The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately that does not compensate for hotel restaurant being closed on weekends, or that a bottle of water is very expensive. If you are on an upper floor, at 6 AM the hot water slows to a dribble. The internet connection was miserable, with frequent disconnections and having to re-log on even when 1 foot from the router. The hotel is in a mall with few restaurant choices, and is far from the city center (will cost you 25 to 50 SFR to use a taxi).
Conveniently located , accessible by bus from the airport. 10 mins walking distance to Carouge with all of its lovely restaurants. Staff are friendly, attentive and courteous, with most speaking excellent English. Only gripes are that the bar shuts early (22:30), and that rooms can be a little warm when the weather is hot. In isolation it's also a little pricey, but for Geneva actually quite good value,
I have been at Ramada Encore in June 2017, for business. The Hotel is not that far from the airport (30 CHF by taxi) new building, and side to a mall, that is very convenient if you want to make shopping. Large room, well furnished, free coffee, clean. The only thing I did not like is the breakfast room. Small and very confusional. The hotel is used by large group of tourists, staying just one night, and in the morning you have very long queues, personnel is insufficient and tables are not enough. Reception is very helpful and they seemed to know the issue so they warned me to avoid certain timeslots.
The room was cramped. The window looked out into some artificial installation and 24 hour light. There were shutters but in Geneva, one expects to look out some natural beauty or even just the city scale. The toilet was small and cramped. A glass slab with a teeny tiny bowl for a wash basin meant that even if you just tinder your face, the water went everywhere! Tbe towel ring was just below so you ended up sloshing water down on it and it was wet before you even used it. The shower space was poorly designed with no proper towel rack. You sling your towel over the glass wall and then the shower ended up wetting it and the entire bathroom. Not even a closet provided to hang a few clothes! Even worse, the hotel doesn't provide glasses for water. Instead cheap plastic disposable glasses are placed in the toilet. You're supposed to use those to drink water! Horrible place! No one in their right mind should ever visit the place...
The hotel is nice. The welcome and the personal is really good too. The size and quality of the bed are perfect. Just the wifi good be a bit better (I had a few disconnections in only a few minutes of use)
We were concerned that the hotel was too far from the centre, between a football stadium and a shopping centre. In fact the transport links were excellent by tram and bus. The receptionist issued us with a free travel ticket each, courtesy of the city of Geneva, and recommended an excellent restaurant in the charming area of Carouge, nearby.
Next to the football station, it's no a place to be when football is played. The hotel een closes on those days. The restaurant is connected directly with the bar, I don't like having dinner next to heavy drinkers. He restaurant had only 1+1 menu (meat or fish). Lucily an adjacent italian restaurant is top. Female employees were very kind, not the male. Rome ok; Bed perfect, view outside nil, ...
As usual, all the staff is very helpful. It's my second business stay at the hotel and it always provides me the rest that I need.
