Montreux, located in the French-speaking district of western Switzerland, has a different lifestyle from the German-speaking eastern part of the city and deserves to be experienced in this area, whether north or south, in the city or in ancient castles. In particular, this five-star hotel is definitely worth staying.
I was there on business and we has a driver. Good thing, when we arrive it was rainy and foggy. We would have never found the place. It was dark when we arrived and had just traveled from Germany and had been on the road for hours. Check in went OK and we split up to take our luggage to our rooms. We were to meet back at the dinning room in a hour. My room was fair to good, it diffidently needed up updates and repairs. I changed clothes and met my travel companions for dinner. First of all, nothing is inexpensive in Switzerland. The hotel was a lot and the meals at the hotel were very expensive. The food was OK and the wine was better. After dinner we all went to bed with plans of meeting for breakfast. The shower here was not like we have in the U.S. were as half of it is open so water can go all over the floor. I didn't like it at all. The bed was like most European beds, not that comfortable. But I was exhausted and didn't waste any time getting to sleep. I got up in the morning and it was a beautiful day with bright sun and clear blue skies. I looked out of my room and saw the lake for the first time, remember when we got there it was dark, foggy and rainy. I didn't even know there was a lake there. But WOW!!! it was beautiful. I went to the dinning room and the views were spectacular. The guys I was traveling with all said the same thing. I didn't even know there was a lake there last night.. We had breakfast and went out on the balcony . It was breath taking, now I know why the hotel and meals were so much. The view is everything for this hotel, without it, not so great, but with it, it changes everything.
Good things first: The location at the lakeshore ist beautiful, so is the view, perfect for a morning run along the lake or enjoying the view from the terrace. Yet, we waited for more than half an hour until served on the terrace, the staff there was very friendly, but not well trained, the chief of staff lordly and unattentive. Seemed more like a management than a staff problem. Breakfast was very good, great selection of cheese and fresh fruit o be mentioned. The rooms, esp. bathrooms outworn and fusty.
We were in Montreux on vacation in August 2017. The hotel is very comfortable. We had a spectacular view to Geneva lake and Alps from our apartments. There was a small balcony where we could have a cup of tea enjoying one of the best view. You can also have promenade along the coastline and find the most popular monument in Montreux mounted in memory of Freddie Mercury. He lived there and he had own music recording studio. The hotel is in walking distance from city center and all interesting places thanks to small size of the town. Hotel rooms are in style " a la provence ". There is everything you need for breakfast. In case if you need a parking lot you have to book it in advance. Montreux is a very nice place to stay if you are travelling from Zurich to Geneva.
Our 2 weeks Swiss vacation started with 4 nights in Montreux at the Golf-Hotel Rene Capt. We couldn't have been more delighted. The property has amazing views right on Lake Geneva. Each morning we awoke to stunning sunrises behind the Swiss and French Alps from across the lake. Our room was quite comfortable and spacious, though could use a bit of updating and modernizing. Aside from that, we love every part of our stay. The lobby and restaurant areas are beautifully decorated with an elegant European flare. The staff were way beyond accommodating and helpful. All of them, but particularly Paulo our bartender and waiter (one evening) was a delight to talk with and a wealth of information. We had dinner one evening in the price-fix restaurant. I wasn't certain after reading not the best reviews, but we were given a gift certificate so we went to see. We were very happy that we did. The service was impeccable and the food was outstanding. We also choose from an extensive wine menu and were recommended some wonderful bottles of wine. Our stay at the Rene-Capt was wonderful, as was our time in Montreux during the Christmas market time. Couldn't have been happier!
I like the window view on the lake, it’s fantastic and the breakfast. Friendly staff, who helped in returning the baggage from the airport. The hotel is old, the smell in the bathroom is not so good, the cleaning of the room is awful :(
We booked this hotel at the last minute as everything else was fully-booked or too far away from the centre of Montreux. On the positive side, the hotel has a certain faded charm about it, which is nice, and the location is excellent being only seconds away from the lake. On the negative side, we were put in a room in the 'newer' block (from the 60s, I presume) and one floor down from the ground-floor. The balcony was pleasant, looking out to the lake and a beautiful garden. The rooms have connecting doors to the neighbouring rooms on both sides and also have extremely thin walls just to make sure you hear everything. The small group having a little drinks get-together in the neighbouring room was very loud, but even when the party was over you could hear the person the other side snoring, the toilet being flushed, something being placed on the table ... not a very good night's sleep. Bring ear plugs, because they don't have any on reception. The breakfast the next day was average - the staff were nice enough, the food was eatable, the atmosphere slightly depressing, and the electricity kept cutting off. It seemed that the owners/managers were busy around the hotel during our stay and we passed them a few times in the garden - don't expect a friendly greeting. I would definitely come back to Montreux, but would probably not stay again at this hotel.
The view from My lakeside Room was Fantastic. Bon port Bus stop is 2 mins walk from the Hotel. Rivera card is free of charge. WIFI works great everywhere. Bathrooms are neat and Clean. Beds are spacious. Fans provided on Demand. Helpful Front office and Lobby members. Directions on Google map very wonky. The floor is old and Super Creaky. The Vegetarian options are breakfast are sparse . Very Strict Check-in Times. A little far from City Centre.
Lakeside hotel. staff very helpful, traditional hotel. Good continental breakfast with lovely breads, fresh fruit and yogurts. Some hot dishes as well. Our room was a good size, but due to being located at the side of the hotel a lot of train noise experienced. Set evening meal, with Inghams very good value, but would have been good to have just a couple of choices for the main course. Can't fault the quality of the food. If you get a Riviera card then you get half price entry to local attractions as well as free local transport. Saved a lot of money . Would recommend
This place could not be more comfortable! Starting with the breakfast in a beautiful hall, the selection is perfect, the staff is very helpful, fast, and responsive.I was alone and they always tried to make me comfortable. I like to have my tea in the room and they immediately found a kettle for me. The view from the terrace, where you can have your dinner, is a breathtaking! You see a beautiful panorama of the lake and an Alps. Dinner was also perfect and the dessert (meringue with wild berries) is to die for... Location was perfect for me. Direct access to the lake from the breakfast hall, through the beautiful roses garden. I was walking by the lake to the Chateau Chillon and to the other side, and just couldn't get enough of this beautiful place. You are also close to the city centre. If i am to return to Montreux I would definitely choose this place again.
