I have stayed here many times and it continues to deliver. Friendly staff, great room, and all the amenities that I am looking for....best hotel in the area.

We loved this quaint little hotel! My 11 year old and my husband are both train fanatics. They really enjoyed seeing all of the museum quality display pieces and books. Even the indoor pool had the train theme. Behind the hotel they had two train cars with more memorabilia and an interactive train set with scenery. In addition, they had a cute playground and bicycles available to ride.

Great place. Bettter than its 2.5 star rating. Gorgeous rooms.

We have stayed here several times and it continues to be excellent. It has a railroad theme and an interesting feature is the TV in the lobby with CCV camera focused on the nearby tracks so you can watch trains traveling through. There is also a nearby viewing platform next to the tracks.

Very quaint, I love the artifacts, I am looking forward to going back for a wine tasting.

Describing the staff as friendly and helpful is an UNDERSTATEMENT. They were super attentive, helpful, and always smiling. The heated pool was wonderful on my tired muscles after driving half of the day, and the breakfast was easy to get to, filling and tasted great. Many hotel beds are pretty but not comfortable... not so here. it was very comfortable and very nice to look at! The microwave and fridge in the room were lifesavers, allowing me to have my cold coffee all ready for me whenever I wanted it!

Our room was very clean and quiet. Interesting railroad memorabilia all around. No coffee maker in room but coffee is available at all times in the lobby. Very pleasant and helpful staff. Modest breakfast available in the lobby every morning.

The room was clean and comfortable. The décor was definitely train oriented and rustic. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The pool was fun for the grandkids! Nice place to stay

This is a fine hotel, have stayed there often. [...]

We were a little nervous pulling in because the hotel is right off the highway and there were a lot of big rigs parked out front. My daughter and I thought we may be staying at a truckers hotel. No offense but we were alone and in an unfamiliar town. We enter the front doors and that all went out the door as the lobby and hotel itself is very quaint, clean, and feels comfortable and homey. The rooms were nice, good size, very new looking, however like one of the other reviews I had read the cleaning staff missed some chex mix that was by the chair on the carpet. Other than that the room was clean. There is the noise of nearby trains going by but after falling asleep, I didn't hear them at all. I will stay there again.

My experience was good, except people in the next room were very noisy. The staff was great, but they should tell their maids to be more careful what they leave behind. My dog found a doughnut, and a piece of bread and a mountain dew bottle right by the bed, under the skirt. The rooms were clean other than that. I loved the free movies, and the coffee. The pool was very nice also. Very beautiful motel, and interesting with the collection of railroad things.

second time to stay at depot inn in la plata.....quaint little place with big rooms full of rich furnishings, bedding and color. worth the 10 minute drive out of kirksville. only issue i had this visit was that the manager's reception of free drinks and food started an hour late the free food consisted of popcorn. but, hey, it was free and something new since my last stay in 2006. i'll be back.

Jan, Thank you for reviewing the Depot Inn! The hotel is a great choice for train lovers with it being filled with train artifacts. We pride ourselves in making our guests stays as comfortable and enjoyable as possible so we love hearing that you thought our beds were comfortable. We are sorry to hear you thought the comforters were too heavy though, we will look into providing another option in our rooms. We hope to have you back!
