I stay at this hotel only for one night. The room was clean and a bit small. If you travel with a big luggage you need to book A big room. Only the room is the bathroom. It was so smelly and i think the smell comes from the floor. The aircond was cool and the bed was comfy. What you pay it was you get. Normal 3 star hotel. This hotel also near to the kuching river.
The hotel is located in the centre of the city which you can go to interesting places (such as waterfront, museum, shopping centre) within walking distance. The price includes free air conditioner, wi-fi, towels and toiletries (bar soap and shampoo). The beds were comfortable. I am lucky as I got a room with good shower room and clean toilet (compare to my previous experience with Tune Hotel in KLIA2). The room that I booked is small but good enough to perform salah (solat). No prayer mat (sejadah) was provided, so please bring your own praying gear. I encountered with minor issue with the room at the very first I opened the door, but with the help of the hotel crew, it was solved in less than a minute. Bear in mind that the hotel did not provide parking space. For anyone who travel by your own car, you have to parked on your own risk just near the hotel.
Location: the location quite strategic just 3 mins from the waterfront area. Transport: transport to Tune hotel Kuching available in Kuching airport counter with a fare of RM10 while from Kuching back to airport one way cost RM8. The price quite reasonable Room: Room size is adequate enough for two person move around easily, tv with Astro, wifi works well and toilet just ok as there are stains not easily being removed. Bed as usual so comfortable like 4 start hotel bed, aircon a bit noisy as the cover of the aircon keep coming out and vibration caused the noise Summary, not bad for two nights stay or just to look for a place to sleep and walk around Kuching town
Let's start with the smoking issue. Even though it is considered a non-smoking hotel; people still smoke either in the rooms or corridor, not sure, but we can smell it. I arrived a Thursday night from KL. First things first, their card system did not work, so I had to go down with my bags to inform them then go up waiting for the maintenance guy to reset the take with his special card so UI can use my card to activate the aircond and the light. I went then outside to get some food and Oh my it took so long to settle dinner as it was holidays mood and people really go out to eat by the waterfront and all the restaurants were full plus service was slow (nothing to do with the hotel). I came back around midnight and noticed in the room that there was a water leak from the plaster ceiling in the room. I went down and explained to the lady at the reception; she immediately replied, ok I will be sending someone to repair it (at midnight??!!). I rejected her idea and requested for a new room. I explained that I would be in the room while waiting for someone to send me the new key/card. I waited roughly 20 minutes and no one came up. I was really tired and upset at that point. I went down from my room 2xx to the reception. 3 of them were waiting for me with angry faces (??). The lady then told me: "Why did you should at our staff ??!! We thought you did not want to change the room" - (I cannot describe the enigmatic feeling that hit my head then)... I said : Sorry ??!!, she then replied again why did you shout at our staff when he came and knocked at your room door?? I replied; how did I shout at he person knocking at the door if room door was open? The 2 other staff were looking at me as if I had really done it. She then added: yes the staff went to your room; room 1xx and when he knocked at the door to give you the key? I then understood that the staff went one floor lower than mine and woke up a guest who was very upset... At that point, I was really upset and requested for a refund which I never received. The new room was better but very noisy, I could not sleep. Next day I found under my door an apology letter with free breakfast which I have returned to the desk. Tan Sri, you should really stay in Tune hotels from time to time to have a taste of the service. really. Would I stay here again? No, not at all. this was my second and last time. I would stick to my usual budget in the future.
For the money you pay I can say Tunes is definitely the right choice. Room is small but it is good enough to sleep as you will be spending most of the time outside anyway. There is a bathroom attached and they do provide the basic amenities.
Plus: Hotel budget dgn lokasi yang strategis. Near to waterfront, mudah mencari makanan, dekat dengan Sevel juga. No laundry service but many laundries arround hotel. Nice staff. Negative: sedikit bingung dgn sistem listrik krn ada limit time sesuai booking, tidak ada lemari penyimpan baju, less channel on tv. Not suitable if you bring car because less space for parking. Less problem but very nice stay at Tune hotel. For sure Will come back to Tune Hotel.
Every time I am back to KCH, Tune is the destination to go. Just be aware that the parking can be hard to find and the slope in front of the hotel makes parking a haphazard. Other than that, it is strategically located in the middle of city and just a short walk to the waterfront and Jalan Main Bazaar.
My special request when I booked my room was acknowledged and considered upon my arrival. I requested all 3 rooms to be on the same floor and they were close to each other. Overall cleanliness is okay. The bed were clean, the bathroom were fine. If you wish to book a family room for 5 pax, you can book through their website instead of using booking.com or expedia because this room categories were not updated to those websites yet. Downside: Hairdryers can be obtained from the reception but it is subject to availability. If you have heavy luggage with you, you have to use the side door which is located behind the restaurant next to the hotel. There will be a ramp for you that connects to the hotel lobby. There were no concierge counter.
Let me start this review by saying that I've been a big fan of Tune Hotels for the past 10 years. I've stayed at Tune Hotels in Kota Kinabalu, KL and KLIA about 20 times. I understand it's not the Hilton, but I've always found it to be good value for the money. This was our first time staying at Tune Hotels Kuching. It was awful! Room 1: The first room they put us in had a stink of cigarette smoke. We immediately asked to be put in a different room. The desk staff were friendly and accommodating and put us in a different room. Room 2: The room was filthy. We didn't want to ask to change rooms again, so we just went to a supermarket and bought some cleaning products and cleaned the room ourselves. The air conditioner looked like it had never been cleaned. It was packed with dust, so I also had to clean the air conditioner filters. This took 2 hours. After our room was finally clean, we used the sink in the bathroom, just to find out the plumbing was leaking all over the floor. They sent a maintenance man, who said he was not able to repair it, so they have to put us in another room. Room 3: Same as room 2 - completely filthy, air conditoners packed with dust. But at least the plumbing was okay. Spent another 2 hours cleaning this room. We had paid for a room with a window. This room had a window, but it wasn't facing the river. It was facing a dirty back alley. When my wife got up in the morning she opened the curtain, and there was a man in the back alley masturbating as he was looking up at us in the window! I realize this is not Tune Hotels fault, but it gives you an indication of the location of this hotel. We explained the situation to the desk staff and asked if we can change to a room that faces the river. Room 4: For some reason, this room has wood floors instead of tiled floor. The wood in the room smelled like mould and of course everything was filthy dirty. At this point, we were ready to just take the loss of money (because Tune Hotels does not do refunds), but we decided to ask for one more room. Room 5: same story. Filthy, dirty, dusty, another 2 hours of cleaning. Observations: staying here one week allowed us to see many things. For example, the room cleaning staff don't even have cleaning products on their cart. Just a wet rag and replacement sheets and towels. The only positive thing about this place was the front desk staff. They were very friendly and professional. Sadly, because of the lack of maintenance and cleaning, it seems they are constantly on 'damage control'. Don't make the same mistake we did and assume all Tune hotels are the same. The one in Kuching is terrible!
This hotel advertised everything we wanted. It's opposite the Hilton and next door to the Upsidedown House. It,s modern, clean and there,s a desk there too to help you book excursions and taxis. The safe works, the TV has channels in English. Air conditionning and internet all good. The waterfront is at the end of the street, there are 2 shopping centres within walking distance. All great and then .....there's the breakfast! This is served al fresco on a patio at the back of the hotel. Tune is owned by AirAsia so the crews are accommodated in their own hotels which is a good idea. Unfortunately the breakfast also comes from the in flight meals supplier. There,s a choice of asian or continental. Both were just warm, there was nothing to reheat them and I don't know what time they were delivered. The continental breakfast consists of an omelette, 2 frankfurter sausages, tomato and potato served in a plastic container. Asian is noodles. There's a choice of tea or coffee in plastic cups of course, but we couldn't tell which was which! We had to go to Starbucks after 2 days for a real breakfast. I would definately use Tune again but without the breakfast. I highly recommend ALL the rest.
