Holiday Inn Resort Phi Phi Island4.0 out of 5.0

The first thing to note about Phi Phi is that there are no roads. All hotel resorts are situated on beaches. There is nothing in the interior of the Island but rainforest. So you arrive on the Island by ferry or speed boat at Tonsai (from Krabi) and then you have to take a long boat from Tonsai to Holiday Inn Resort. I understand that you can arrive directly at Holiday Inn Resort if you are arriving from Phuket. Expect to have to barter for the long boat. The extremely grumpy Captain of our long boat wanted to charge us B1600. But in the end we found another friendlier Captain and paid B1200. We stayed for 4 nights and although our holiday didnt start too well, we did enjoy it overall. We booked 2 twin rooms for myself (female) and my 22 year old son. The other room was for my sister in law and my daughter 18. We arrived and were given 2 double rooms. We immediately rang reception who said that my son had to sleep on the sofa... only there wasnt one in the room! My sister in law was also told that my daughter had to sleep on the sofa too and although there was one in their room, there was no bedding provided! They found us alternative rooms for the night, with sofas and bedding for both children and then the next day they upgraded us to beach front rooms. These were double rooms with a sofa. Although my son and daughter still had to sleep on the sofas and not beds. It turns out that this hotel do not have any twins rooms at all, which is a bit odd considering we were allowed to reserve "twins". To compensate us, we were offered complimentary breakfasts for our stay, which was a buffet style with a large choice of foods, from English, Thai, Chinese, Continental. We had mixed experiences with the staff. Reception were very polite and efficient, and the breakfast staff very friendly too. However when we had lunch on the beachside, we found the staff to be very unfriendly and very cool towards us, which actually made us feel a bit awkward. The rooms were of good standard, cleaned every day and you got 2 bottles of complimentary water each day along with usual toiletries, and 4 cookies on arrival. The location is totally idyllic with a beautiful beach and incredibly warm sea. The adult only pool was lovely as was the brand new Sunset bar with infinity pool. We found it cheaper to eat next door at the Jasmine restaurant which provided good Thai and Europeam food. We booked a trip through the hotel to go to Ko Phi Phi Ley which provided excellent snorkelling opportunities. Towels and snorkels were provides by the hotel and we thoroughly enjoyed the 4 hour trip which cost about B1600 for the boat with just our party of 4 in it (you could take up to 6 people in for the same price). So despite a stressful start to our break, the hotel did put things right. Overall a very relaxing stay.
If you can afford staying in this hotel, just go. We stayed for 4 days in a beachfront bungalow with direct access to the beach. The beach itself is an exact tropical cliché with white sand and bending coconut trees. Our 2 son's (4 and 7 yo) named it "the paradise" and didn't wan't to go back to France. We also felt in love of the "Sunset bar" with its amazing pool overlooking the sea, in front of the sunset.
Very nice hotel, people are very friendly. Amazing beach. On the beach next hotel you can rent boat and go to another places. If you want go to see maya beach (place there was The Beach made), you have to go morning, later is a lot of people, very very a lot of.
This hotel is not worth of money. The rooms need a big renovation they're old and dirty. The staff is mostly terrible, on the reception is one guy MAXIE which is arrogant and mean if you get him rather wait for somebody else. Only great thing about this hotel is beach. I definitely never recommend to anybody to stay here.
Although remote, a fantastic location on Phi Phi Don. A very quiet area of the island. They continue to grow with a new Sunset bar/restaurant and new rooms that are on the cliffs facing West. Staff was fantasitic and made the experience quite enjoyable. Rooms are a bit dated, grounds are well kept, breakfast was fantastic with many options. Restaurant prices are a bit on the high end, with good options right next door on the beach (Jasmines was our favorite). Services from the hotel are priced high (long tail boat transfers, tours, SCUBA, etc...) and better deals can be found 15 feet away on the beach or in town in the case of diving. Laundry service on this part of the island is very pricey with a charge per item. A number of places in Tonsai will do laundry for 60 Baht per Kilo. A fantastic experience and great location!
One of the best places I have stayed in. Attention to detail is spot on. Plenty of activities for families especially kids. The resort is right on the beach and the arrival to the resort is by speedboat or ferry. Felt like a dream. Great for large groups. We were a group of 5 families and thoroughly enjoyed out stay in holiday inn phi . They also arrange very memorable boat tours which includes sightseeing and diving /snorkelling . We booked garden bungalows and were upgraded to superior bungalows FOC. Overall a quite place for people to lay back and relax. A special mention to our head Waiter Mr.Sling who went out of his way to keep us comfortable .
This hotel is a beachfront property. The hotel is a bit old and the room do needs renovation. Receptionists are mostly moody and unfriendly Staffs are 98% moody and unfriendly..... Food is expensive and ok eatable.... But a very clean beautiful beach made up for everything above mentioned!
Never disappointed..will go back for a 3rd holiday next year. My favourite place from home. A proper, quiet island holiday. Barman Meaw is fantastic ! Breakfasts are great... Restaurants on the beach next door are magnificently basic !
Upon our travel agent booking this accommodation for us.. we had no idea this was not in the main part of the Phi Phi Islands. Having been to Phi Phi myself before and being familiar, I had no idea this resort was so remote and out of the way. In summary: To get here, you take the ferry and stay on when the 99% are getting off at Tonsai Pier. (The main pier part of Phi Phi Island). You are then transported 30 minutes by ferry to the middle of the sea north. You get off the ferry, no idea where your luggage is. A representative from the Holiday Inn is standing near a long tail boat on the side of the ferry lifting you into the long tail boat. We were told there was a pier we would get dropped off at but I saw no pier! Very uncomfortable and no indication what is happening. You are then transported 5-10 min by long tail to the resort. The resort is one of 3 on this small beach front north of the Phi Phi Islands. Check in was fine, although because we took the earlier ferry we had to wait a few hours for our rooms to be ready. We were told we could have lunch at 15% off for first time check in guests. That sounded good until we got to the restaurant. Prices were almost double if not triple in Phuket plus 10% tax and 7% VAT ontop! So in all theory, you are only really getting 2% off your total bill! After finally getting to our rooms, we had booked the garden bungalow which by Australian standards was our most expensive accommodation in Thailand to date. Expected much more than what we walked into. Shower was barely a shower. Bathrooms dated, mouldy and in need of an update. The room itself was just ok. Not what you expect for an upmarket 4 star resort- and for what we paid. Bed hard but that's the norm. We had booked with our travel agent for 2 rooms and one room with 2 beds. To our shock horror both rooms had only 1 bed in each which did not suit. Went to reception to enquire to be told that all the bungalows only have one bed in each. There was a Day bed in each room, so we were told they would provide some bedding for that to act as a second bed. Waited half an hour for the bedding, for the hotel worker to just dump in on our balcony and go. Bad customer service no no. They should have come in and made the bed up for us... The daybed was hard as rock. Not a bed at all! Why the resort wouldn't offer us a sofa or pull out bed atleast I don't understand. After one night of sleeping on it my back was worse for wear which required medical treatment. Upon walking around the resort and beach there are hardly any options to dine out. You either eat at the hotel and pay double if not triple the prices of nearby Phuket and main Phi Phi. There were maybe 3 other restaurants around but all with inflated prices. There is no ATM on this part of the island. No shopping stalls. The mini mart they have in the resort which is the only thing closest to a Family Mart/7-eleven was a disgrace!!! Alcohol, food, clothing and bug spray was triple what you pay in Phuket!! Also no bottle opener we could buy, I understand hotels don't have them in rooms because they are a highly stolen item.. but reception couldn't even give us one to use. The bar staff from the nearby bar had to come and open our alcohol for us in our rooms. One thing I will say is that the buffet breakfast was excellent. Lots of choice on offer. The beach front is breathtaking and very quiet.. but you get bored very easily and run out of things to do. I would not recommend staying here more than 1-2 nights unless you are prepared to be remote and pay for it. If you want to go into Tonsai it's $1,000 baht per way via long tail boat.. not really worth it. We ended up checking out after one night and moving to the Tonsai side. Had a much better time with easier access to ATM's, great bars and restaurants and shopping. I hope this review is informative to those who are looking to stay here. Although it is my opinion, and this might be what you are after- I just wish there was more information on this resort before we knew what we were getting ourselves into. Sorry Holiday Inn. Just not to us.
Hotel is right on the pristine phi phi beach. Accommodation is in Villas lined up on the coast with some breathtaking views and very green and serene environs. Facilities are great for water sports and we enjoyed snorkeling and kayaking in the sea. Rooms are beautifully done and well appointed. Would definitely recommend it for stay in phi phi. Place is far from usual phi phi ferry stops. So anyone planning to come here should atleast opt for 2 night's stay. Restaurant serve good food though staff at times look clueless. Live music at the Bar was great fun.
