Our first room had iron burns in the carpet and food smeared on the walls. I got allergies within minutes... I got a fresh room which was better but still just terrible value and dirty. Mouldy shower and stained linen. The breakfast buffet is s joke. The food is replenished at what seems like half hourly intervals and is smashed by large tour groups hovering and the quality again is terrible. Just don't bother. Only positive was foyer staff are friendly... worst hotel in 20+ years of travel...
The hotel is reasonably priced for its strategic location right beside Suria Sabah Shopping Mall. The sea view rooms and in fact the restaurant on the fourth floor (breakfast is complimentary) has perfect nice views of the vast sea and skyline. Only point is that the hotel is very commercialised and catered to mostly Chinese tourists (to the extent that the lift buttons descriptions are in Mandarin).
I have stayed at the Gaya Centre Hotel every year since 2012. Comfortable rooms with wifi, bar fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, cable TV and ducted aircon. The staff are friendly and helpful. The best thing though is the buffet breakfast. A good selection of food that is sure to please most people.
I spent my 3 nights in this hotel and had a very pleasant stay. Location is very strategic, near to malls, 711, Jetty for island hopping and some famous restaurant. Room are clean and tidy. Worth to stay.
Stayed 4 nights at the hotel during my golfing trip from 6th to 10th May. Hotel is clean, staff friendly and good room view (I had room facing the sea), especially the sunset view. Missed morning sunrise view due to blockage. Location is fantastic with big Suria Mall beside and many shop houses.. I don't recommend hotel breakfast which is 'so-so', as there're many shop houses serving local delicacies in the morning. Don't forget the seafood...lobster, crabs, prawns, clams,,,all delicious. Enjoyed my 5 days of golfing and food.
Spent a night here. We actually targetted another hotel nearby but got priced out. From the website, this hotel wasn't highly rated but it had a nicely refurbished bed (and room). Furthermore the location was strategic as we had work to do at our office nearby. This hotel's location is quite central as it was just within 100 meters of huge suria sabah mall. It is also near to jesselton port, gaya street and a whole lot of stuff in KK city. Upon check in, we were quite disappointed. This hotel needs to refurbish a bit, especially the worn out carpet in the rooms. The bed was also different compared to the photos in agoda. After a long & tiring day, managed to sleep peacefully at the bed. I suppose the beds were cozy enough for me. So, no compains from me about the bed comfort levels. Wifi service was rather poor too as we had to reconnect many times. Breakfast, was rather limited but we were still happy that they provided compared to some boutique hotels in gaya street we stayed last year which did not offer this package. Food, whatever was available, was ample. Overall, i'm 50-50 about returning to this hotel again or recommending others to it. A lot needs to be done, especially to the carpets in the room and in the common areas.
For the price this is good value, great locations and supermarket opposite in mall. Breakfast average but street options everywhere.Amusing comment re.chinese tour group, well if you travel Asia, you will know Chinese groups everywhere and they are friendly, if at times a bit noisy.WiFi slow but in fairness it's a national problem ,for the govt. to fix.
Check in was fast. Room clean and beds comfortable. However, the carpet in the hallway needs to be replaced as it was rather worn out. Friendly and helpful staff. Close to everything. Overall good hotel. Will stay again.
I guess this is the last option hotel i stay at Kota Kinabalu. This hotel is totally rundown interm of room condition and cleanliness. Carpet was obviously seen dirty. Room's air was stuffy. On my 2nd day, room was not clean despite i hang request for cleaning. Only towels was replace. Despite i am paying discounted price, i believe every customer deserve a clean and comfortable room. NO ONE IN WORLD PAYING EVEN A SINGLE DIME TO GET DIRTY ROOM. Internet don't put any hope. They given you password but never work. They don't have any senior manager to refer to especially after 5pm. I would like to compliment Patrick and PA working on 28th night. They perform better compare to Supervisor that night. Breakfast just a decent one, nothing to impress. Walking Distance to Suria sabah shopping mall. Taxi service just park outside hotel. Anyway, this hotel should consider to do make over.
The room was ok, bed comfortable and linen clean but generally tired and nothing special and the shower definitely needs an upgrade, broken tiles and dirty grouting. The location is good, close to a large shopping mall and walking distance to jetty and waterfront. The breakfast had a good selection of Asian/ Chinese food but very little western . The dining room was huge and unfriendly I felt as if the staff were monitoring everything very closely and there were warning notices on the tables that wasting food would incur a fine of RM50 . Which prevented me from trying the Chinese offerings. I didn't go to take breakfast after the first day although I had paid for 4 more. As a solo European traveller I wouldn't recommend this hotel , I like to engage in conversation and meet new people when travelling but that wasn't possible here as it seemed to be only Chinese families and a tour group.
