The location is awesome. It's in downtown Sabah. Shopping mall, restaurants, the post office, the Phillipines market, travel agencies Jesselton Harbour are all in walking distance. The Suria Sabah Mall across the road, the waterfront across the other side. A short 5 min walk to Signal Hill and Gaya 'walking' Street. Stayed at Gaya Centre for 5 days and all I can say is that it we got more than our money's worth. On arrival the hotel looked excellent, check in smooth and we were given an upgrade to a room with a panoramic sea view. Do remember to ask for higher floor. Just ignore the previous reviews about worn out carpet in lift lobby area. The room was clean and complete with the basic necessities. The room itself was comfortable however the windows were thin and we were sometimes disturbed by traffic noise outside, particularly people on motorcycles with obnoxiously loud exhausts in the night! The staff are all friendly and accommodating. The breakfast spread has enough choices for non-locals like us. They have charged MYR15 for the breakfast of my 11 year son which we found very reasonable. They have prepared separate strict vegetarian food (without egg, onion and garlic) for us which we appreciated very much. We have not received this kind of close attention in breakfast table in any other 3 or 4 star hotel in Malyasis. Exellent service !!!! Check in at 3pm need to be improved. However, we were allowed to check-in early and provided us two extra pillows, iron, hair drier, safety-box and universal adaptor. They also require RM100 deposit upon check-in. There is no cloakroom but you can leave your baggage at the reception with tag. We mostly travelled by taxi and found taxi was available during late hour in front of the hotel. Highly recommended.
Budget hotel with basic amenities and best location for us. We have been staying at this hotel whenever we are at KK. Pros: between Suriah Sabah Mall and Wisma Merdeka Mall, just across our favorite resto Upperstar, room upgraded to de luxe with sea view, express checkout, breakfast is basic but not too much expected for its room rate (complimentary), with welcome drink, beside several restos and with 24 hr convenience store, email inquiries replied quickly, airport transfer can be requested for RM30 for 2 persons, breakfast area with sea view, with vendo machine for cold drinks Cons: wifi in the room very poor, breakfast buffet items not refilled quickly
I visited this hotel and was there for one week for a training event and my stay was beyond awesome and the customer service especially in the restaurant was the very best. I high recommend them. The food was very delicious and the parking attendant was so nice and helpful. I can only say one thing... we all know that it is true that if you don't take care of your customers somebody else will... as a customer of the Gaya Center Hotel I can say that I was very pleased with their level of care... thank you
Location is good being right opposite a big shopping Mall with lots of restaurant choices. Rooms at the front benefit from a great views and being woken up by noisy motorcycles visiting the 24 hr. McDonalds at all hours through the night. Rear rooms are quiet but no view. Popular with Chinese tourists who pounce and strip the food from serving points at breakfast as soon as it arrives. Many items not available at times..bread, coffee, butter, eggs. Napkins..? Furniture in rooms is worn & dated and carpets in hallways stained and marked. Bar is overpriced by over 100% of the price at the Waterfront but has friendly bar staff.. I was the only customer on the occasions when I visited the bar - only during 'happy hour' ? Reception staff are efficient and friendly.
The location is awesome. It's in downtown Sabah. Shopping mall, restaurants, the post office, the Phillipines market and travel agencies are all in walking distance. However, when the elevator doors opened to the 2nd floor, where my hotel room was, I couldn't believe how worn and dirty the carpet was. I almost didn't exit out of the elevator but it was all paid for and we were only staying one night. There was mildew in the shower floor tile grouts. It was impossible to air out without a vent inside the bathroom area. A buffet style breakfast was included. Luckily, that 4th floor was clean and the food was great. Service was awesome too. Food was refilled quickly.
Checked into Gaya Centre for a weekend stopover. It was pretty chic;&&Zen tucked away in a corner of the City centre just across the famous Suria Sabah.Therefire shopping for luxury branded items was a b=were and there are many upscale restaurants, cafes and coffee houses for the discerning travellers.Food was average judging from the medium range prices of about rm200;& for more exclusive dishes you can try out at the Japanese restaurants in Suria itself. For fresh sea Good,it is just a stone throws away next to the Central Market;open daily from 6pm to midnight.
My first impressions of this hotel - a tad old and needs some lift. The bar area looks sparse and made me wonder why anyone would want to hang out there. I couldn't find the coffee house, and when I did, I thought it was good my room didn't come with breakfast. The price of this room is not cheap. You could get a better deal elsewhere. Lots of eateries around, so you are not held to eat at this hotel. I couldn't sleep very well as this hotel is centred on a rather busy street which cars will continue to zoom pass till 4am. And then its pin silence until 5am when the garbage trucks and cars start zooming by again. Would I return? Unlikely.
Stayed there for 5 days. After checked out I contacted them asking to check that I forgot my bag with GoPro and money (admit my bad) but they told me nothing left. There is nothing left behind. Overall, not bad. McDonald is just opposite of the hotel. Walking distance to the market n jetty. However, if you looking for 'partner' to join you at night (***k3r), hahaha they came rang our door. My wife was so mad at them! Walking distance to the roundabout where there is a sign 'I Love KK'
Need some improvement on the hotel customer service. 3PM check in without considering our long distance ride with an infant. There was an empty car park with a signage 'hotel reserved' in front of hotel lobby but when we requested for it the reception told us need to pay RM15 and the owner that booked it first will come back in a short while (meaning you need to pay it first and the car park is yours for the whole stay? that was confusing) and I did not find any information about RM15 car park fees in the hotel official website other than basement car park. Room furnitures are oudated. Location wise really strategic but hotel need some improvements such as basic customer service stuff.
Stayed at Gaya Center for the first two nights of our trip. Location is perfect. Hotel is located near to Suria Sabah shopping center, night market, Jesselton point etc which makes it a perfect base while staying in town. Rooms were clean, very basic and a bit scuffed up but the price is reasonable. Breakfast was ok. Not the best culinary experience I have had but got my stomach full which basically is the most important thing before long day in the bus.
