The pool was really nice and it was 8ft deep! Right by the ocean there is a big Maui Sunset sign made out of grass! The condos are old looking on the inside but ok. The location was nice right on the ocean! You have to grill at 8am because after that it’s too windy and the grills won’t stay lit.
We spent 30 nights at this Condo in January/February 2019. It was great! The buildings are built in such a way that every lanai gets a sunset view. The property is pristene - grass in golf course greens quality - apparently has been written up in a Golf magazine. We will definitely come back.
Well laid out condos on beautiful grounds. We were there during spring break time and there were many, many children around. Rules at the pool, hot tub, and grounds were not enforced at all, even though a staff person is at the pool. There were many children there who were not staying at Maui Sunset. The parents were partying and the kids were running, screaming and jumping. I counted 30 kids in the pool one day. Many children were in the hot tub unsupervised. We were very surprised that there were often babies in the hot tub....this is not healthy. Although a sign said ..no floaties in hot tub.....there often were. We talked to numerous people who gave up on using the pool and hot tub area. Some said the office will not enforce rules. Kids were also out screaming on the grounds during the early morning hours. Loved the place otherwise...but would think twice about coming back because of lack of support for common sense rules. It is not the kids' fault....
I visited Maui with my husband for his 32nd Birthday and we decided to stay at the Maui Sunset. We checked and had room 405B. I liked that it's not close to the elevator and the balcony was always shaded. The partial ocean views were nice as well. The condo was clean. It had pots, pans, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, dishwasher and washer & dryer. There was coffee filters, dish soap but no laundry detergent. The one thing I highly disliked was the AC timers and the instructions not to set below 72. For those who run warm it's not fun to wake up sweating. The bathrooms are small. The one in the living area is cramped and there's a noise constantly as if you're listening to a neighbor shower every time light is on. The bed hurt my back but that's nothing they can control. The gym was so tiny. You have no real windows so it feels like a jail cell. You're limited on equipment and room but at least there's something. I also disliked that every time you need to use it you must swap your room key at the front desk. Almost everyone we saw were older..as in retirement older. They do keep to themselves but it gave off a retirement vibe. The beach is disappointing but the sunsets are beautiful. Autumn can help you in the pool area with booking excursions and we absolutely loved her. She added so much positive to our trip. If you're looking for an affordable and quiet place in a decent location then this place is your spot.
We stayed in condo 420B and it was very nice! The condo has been remodeled and is more modern than some of the other units. We appreciated the washer and dryer and the beds were comfortable. There is a room air conditioner in each bedroom and in the dining/living room, so you have no worry about being too hot. They also have ceiling fans in the bedrooms. The unit is stocked with beach towels, a beach mat, beach chairs, and coolers - they have everything that you will need to go have fun! The grounds at Maui Sunset are immaculate and the pool and hot tub is cleaned daily. They have stand up paddle boards that you can rent and the beach is right there. While the beach directly in front of Maui Sunset is rocky after you enter the water, the condos are centrally located and make it easy to get to all of the other parts of the island and the other beaches. You will want to try the beaches to the south any way! It's not far to restaurants, grocery stores, and a few strip malls. We found Kihei to be much less touristy than other areas of Maui and were very happy that we stayed there. There are several comments on TripAdvisor mentioning that the occupants of Maui Sunset do not take kindly to children. I did not find that to be the case at all! We did not have children with us, but there were lots of families staying at Maui Sunset and there were always children at the pool. It seemed like everyone was getting along great and the children posed no problems, nor was anyone crabby to them. Everyone at Maui Sunset seemed very friendly. They do have quiet hours from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. and folks seemed to be abiding by them with no problem.
Maui Sunset was a wonderful and relaxing property. Grounds are beautiful and well cared for. The Apartment was very clean and we had everything we needed including a closet full of beach supplies Really the only thing you need to bring from home is clothing and not much of that either as there was a washer and dryer in unit.I over packed... Beautiful Sunsets every night from our balcony. The only thing was shower in main bath was a little small. I meet so many people at this property from all over everyone was so nice it was great. Booking my stay for 2019 already...
We were very happy with Maui Sunset. The unit was well-maintained and clean. The kitchen was very well stocked and included a dish washer and laundry facilities. There were plenty of towels and two full baths. The bed was reasonably comfortable. The grounds were beautiful and well-maintained with easy access to a narrow but pretty beach, and the pool was better than average with plenty of maintenance. Parking was more than adequate. Quiet hours were maintained. We would give our stay a 5-star rating except that the lanai in our unit in the A-building faced the sun all day and was too bright and hot to use. We would come back in the future.
Pros - The grounds are large and well kept the complex is set next to a park that makes the setting beautiful and offers expansive areas to use for playing yard games. They have some fun extras like shuffleboard, putting green, bocci ball, tennis etc - you can check the stuff out at the pool area for free. The laid back attitude here, people are not snobby Many units have great views - if a view is important to you reserve the ones beyond where the complex juts out Con Unit 423B has horrible pee smell in the Master Bedroom Management was rude in dealing with the problem - insisting the unit did not smell and never had pets in it - even when there was pet urine deodorizer and a carpet cleaner in the unit, management denied pets were ever in the unit The key system and after hours check in here is antiquated like you went through a 1970’s time warp The beach directly in front of the complex is not very good. Rocky entry and not great for swimming Overall this is an OK place - but not the best in Kihei. Make absolutely certain that you are NOT GETTING Unit 423B until all flooring in the unit is replaced. The unit is very smelly and if you are sensitive to smells it will ruin your vacation. I would give this place more stars if not for the badly stained and smelly carpets of Unit 423B.
My family of 3 adults enjoyed staying at Maui Sunset. We spent most of our time exploring the island, so the easy parking and central location were ideal. The beach directly in front is great for watching the sunset, but bring water-shoes because the sand beneath the surf is rocky. The condo was nicely equipped with beach towels, chairs, and an umbrella. We also enjoyed the nearby restaurants. Nalu's for brunch was delicious!
Remove the timer from the air conditioning unit, so I can sleep all night... PLEASE !!You actually use more electricity when you have to turn the unit on twice. I do not reel rested if I have to get up from bed in the middle of the night.
