Real Mayab Hotel & Bungalows4.0 out of 5.0

The reason I have mixed feelings is because the beds in the bungalows were dirty and old. However, the service and hospitality was great. The property was beautiful and we'll kept. The best part was the breakfast. Try the cochinita pibil!
The staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean but sparsely furnished. We did not have hot water for the 2 nights we stayed there. The beds were a bit hard and unfortunately the room smelled quite musty. The grounds are very well kept and the pool is very clean and refreshing.
The good:First of all it is a very friendly and nice place! Great Huts! All Need and clean. Super hot water.Verry helpful friendly staff, good Restaurant! The bad: the Internet WIFI is only available around the reception. No Internet in the huts! The connection quality is almost useless. Super slow and was not able to send out 2 emails. However, the place is in the middle of nowhere, so Internet may had to get. Nearby village has Internet. They should invest in good Internet or state that there is no good Internet available. The ugly: very loud trucks passing (US style Long distance trucks). Hotel is next to Highway. Sounds like a prop plane ... and you here it approaching, passing, and Fading away .. all night. To top that they renovated 3 huts at the same time during our stay with heavy noisy continious grinding works ... they stopped after we complained. Suggestion: invest in Internet and promote a perfect Connection (net via satellite is not expensive and superfast). Charge low Season Prices when you are renovating in high Season! plannt lots of dense plants to block the noice or install Sound proof Windows (hard to do .. I know). It's a bad Location so Close to the Highway. Maybe apply for Speed reduction Zone.
Beautiful hotel! It was in a mini jungle by the highway. It was very quiet, despite being right off the highway. The hotel ground was nice for strolling around. There was a turtle pond, some fish ponds with nicely groomed plants all around. The pool was not very big nor deep, but good enough if you just want to take a dip and relax. Room size is good, everything looked really new. Interestingly, the bathroom was as big or bigger than the bedroom. The rooms are numbered using Mayan numerals, I thought that was cool. There are colourful bungalows hidden away in the mini forest,a short walk away from the reception. If you travel with families or as a group of friends, this might be a better choice. The price was fair, great value for what you get. .The staffs were all really nice and attentive. Some of them spoke English, we didn't speak any Spanish. We enjoyed our stay, loved the ambience, the proximity to Chichen Itza, Balankanche Cave and Valladolid. Breakfast was included, however it was just bread with jam and butter, plus coffee or tea and a plate of fruits. You can order better food from the menu at extra cost, which you should if you are expecting a wonderfully big Mexican breakfast. As for lunch, although not included but the price is ok, you can either get the buffet or order from the menu. Since we didn't know what to eat, we just got the buffet. I liked both their pork and chicken; the green pasta was interesting and I couldn't identify the potato-look-alike vegetable we had, it was yummy though. A word of warning, after touring around the Yucatan Peninsula, of course you will find better food than what you can find here, and you would probably label the food here as being mediocre. A con about this place is that wifi reception is poor in the hotel room. It is best to go near the Reception. But once again, why waste time on the internet when you are out vacationing and detoxing from the modern world, unless you are looking up routes and what to do the next day. We were glad we found this place, actually one of the nicest places we stayed in Yucatan for the same price range. We would like to come back and make use of the pretty hotel ground as well as the pool next time. If you are coming from Cancun, you know you've passed this place if you've entered a town named Kuau.
Very good hotel 25 minutes away from the Chichen Itza archaeological site. Good service, very clean and comfy rooms, onsite restaurant. Would be also great to have WiFi in rooms, not only in the hotel lobby.
Good location, easy to find. Room was clean, tidy with air con. The staff was very friendly, but they couldn't speak English and there was no wifi. Other than that, it is a very practical hotel and good value.
We drove through the whole Yucatan peninsula staying in different hotels along the way. Real Mayab was our first stop. It was a magical place! First of all it is located in the middle of the jungle. Then the bungalow where we stayed was very clean and it was rustic but with a unique touch. Then we befriended Carlos and Mat and a few of the people that work there and own the place. They are the kindest people! We are coming back with a larger group, that's how good it was!
In a 4star place, I would expect wifi in room or at least a phone. Rooms are tiny and stark, but large attractive bathroom almost size of room. In a 4star place, I don't want to have to run down to desk (no phone) to request hot water to shower. Also, english as second language would be nice. Pool pump and filter not turned on (didn't realize until already in). That being said, I loved it! Wackky hotel grounds w/ peacocks & fountain w/ crazy fish. Food @ dining room yummy. NICEST stafff!
We booked this hotel last minute on our way to chichen Itza on Expedia for $65 plus tax. The staff was very friendly, the rooms were clean and had an enormous bathroom. The grounds were well landscaped, they have some birds and peacocks on the grounds. Breakfast and wifi were free which is always a great thing. I would recommend this place.
This is a very new hotel, which also has private bungalows to rent. We just stayed one night in one of the hotel rooms and chose it because it was on our way from Merida to Playa del Carmen. We checked in after a great visit to the nearby ruins of Chichen Itza. They are a few kilometers from the tiny town of Kaua and about 15-20 Kilometers from Valladolid so you have to eat and drink there, but the food is good and very reasonable. They need to get more variety for their bar, and the rooms could use lamps and a fan (they all have AC).
