Centrally located hotel. An old facade hides a thoroughly modern hotel with all facilities. Clean and well appointed rooms. Wonderful and varied breakfast. The hotel staff couldn't be more friendly or helpful and speak fluent English. Secure storage for bicycles.
I really enjoyed this hotel. It was small and quiet which was perfect for me traveling alone. I booked this hotel so I could walk to Alte Hackerei (a music venue) and back after the show. It wasn't too long of a walk, but a cab ride would have been nice and inexpensive. The hotel staff were very friendly and the breakfast was definitely worth sticking around for. Overall, it was a beautiful hotel and for 49 euros it was one of the best valued stays I've had in a hotel in Europe.
I just want to precise before that my review is taking account of the cheap price paid for this hotel and based on that I have to adapt my comment. The Hotel is well located near the city centre (10-15 min walk) and also (5min walk) from a tram station. Below the positive things and negative aspects : Positive: - The location - Staff very friendly and accomoding - Breakfast included - Nice Sauna in the basement - Free Wifi was good Negative: - The noise as the hotel is near one of the main road. Lot of cars circulating - Difficulties to sleep as the room have no shutter (luminosity was high) - Breakfast bread not so fresh - Lot of TV Channels not working At the end, based on the price I was satisfied for my stay
For staying of two nights looking into hotels near Karlsruhe university, we found Hotel blankenburg to be a good choice. The hotel staffs are nice and friendly. The room itself is rather small, but has all things one might need for a two-night stay.
Well situated 20-30mins walk from the station (and zoo) and near the centre and university this was quite comfortable and good value at around £50/night including breakfast which consists of a selection of cereals, yoghurts, fruit, bread and boiled or scrambled eggs plus coffee/juices. Wifi was reasonable but you need to log in quite regularly and the room fairly comfortable with slightly haphazard decor but a friendly service overall. I didn't try the sauna and didn't see a gym. Bikes are available but I didn't use them. There is a vegan restaurant next door and a supermarket in the shopping centre -1 level right out the hotel past the bank/cashpoint. Check out the free open codes exhibition at the ZKM about 20-30mins walk to the west. Also meet the red, furry residents of the central schlossgarten!
Blankenburg is a huge mansion right next to the Staatstheater. The rooms are large, the beds comfortable, the bathrooms brand new and well-equipped. I wouldn't call it very stylish. The furniture looked cheap, and the art in the hallways is a quirky mishmash going from rather tastefully decorative to total kitsch. The staff we met was extremely friendly and helpful. The quality of the breakfast was so-so: the bread (on a monday morning) seemed a bit stale, the buffet offered limited options (mostly meat cuts). Still, at this price, I'd definitely go back.
The good: We had a huge room with a high ceiling which was very nice. The room had both a couch and a lounge chair. Two beds with great mattresses. Friendly staff. Good coffee during breakfast. They have bicycles that you can use for free. The bad: Bath room is incredibly small. We had a stain on one of our sheets. Breakfast is decent, but nothing special: no scrambled eggs for example. Terrible smell at the small parking because of all the garbage bins there.
The room I got was amazing for this class of hotels, although buy the fire map I could see that the other rooms were smaller than the one I got. Everything was clean, and the decoration looked very nice. The only problem I got was the lack of water pressure, in the morning, for showering. Breakfast was also good and there was a great variety of things to choose from. Breakfast room was also spacious and with a nice vintage decoration. Staff was super friendly and efficient. They have laundry service, but the minibar in my room was out of service. In my opinion, this is a good place to stay in Karlsruhe, and the prices are more than nice for the quality you get. Very good quality/price relation.
Hotel is located close to the Staatstheater, a tram-station, a big supermarket and only a few walking minutes away from the pedestrian zone. Welcome was very friendly and quick. We had a great spacious room with an open bathroom, a sofa and a very big TV. The building seems to be really old, but everything is in good condition and very clean. The breakfast room is nice decorated, the breakfast itself was excellent! We didn't miss anything. A pity, that we had to leave already after one night! We will stay here again on our next trip to Karlsruhe!
Nice welcome from reception guy who spoke excellent English for us. The room was huge with super heating but bathroom on the small size with a silly little curtain. Bed was noisy too but comfortable. Breakfast was good with a large selection of stuff. They had a sauna in the hotel but we had little time to use it. Parking behind the hotel a bit tight but ok if you had booked a space.
