Lovely bungalow style hotel on the far end of town. I had reserved an Arena Suite. However, the suite assigned to us overlooked the bar/breakfast area and didn’t offer any privacy. Reception worked with me to upgrade (for an additional fee) to the Master Suite Palapa which was incredible. It’s on the third floor with balconies on each side. Looking back at the website, I think the Vista Mar rooms would have been a good initial choice but would absolutely book the Master Suite again. I did not want to leave that balcony (sunset and daytime views in my photos). The included breakfast offers anything you would want - fruit, pastries, omelettes made to order, and a variety of Mexican foods. And the view is amazing. We had a couple snacks during the day and dinner one night. The food was not fancy but good and relatively inexpensive. I also appreciated the selection of Mexican wines. The hotel is around one mile from the main town. It’s an easy walk along the shore (beautiful at sunset), and cabs are plentiful and inexpensive if you don’t want to walk. We selected Flamingos for a quieter location, though from our walks, town did not seem too loud. We booked a transfers to/from Cancun through the hotel and would recommend them. Very smooth transfers from van to ferry to golf cart cab and the reverse on the return. The negatives were the mosquitos (they do have bottles of repellant available) and WiFi was only available in the enclosed restaurant. Also, my cell service was virtually non existent which made it hard to research restaurants, etc so do that ahead of time.
well located, nice food, friendly staff, room 22 better than room 14, nice ocean view, perfect for a few days of good rest, kids friendly, small pool close to the bar, beach lounge sets everywhere, confortable rooms,...
We picked the best hotel in the island for our honeymoon and we have no regrets! The rustic feel and isolated location gave such a romantic feel to it. We picked the bungalos cielo (sky) and having that Jacuzzi on the top floor with that view was spectacular. Really enjoyed the outside shower, the food, the service and the beach. Definitely would be back.
This was my third trip to Holbox and VF. I think that it's the best hotel on the island because it's away from town and yet it's an easy walk along the beach or golf cart taxi ride to get to Centro. The grounds of VF are stunning, the staff go out of their way to keep the grounds clean and well groomed and everywhere you look is a feast for the eyes. I could always find a quiet spot to read or to just stare at that amazing water. The staff at VF are what elevate this hotel from just amazing to spectacular.....service in the restaurant was incredible and my room was somehow cleaned and sand was swept away while I was at breakfast or practicing yoga with our group, I was never disturbed during siesta! What a gorgeous, special place.
I just returned from a three week visit to Holbox. This is the fourteen year that we have spent March at Villas Flamingos (other than 2006 after the hurricane). Villas Flamingos has continually renovated and updated their property and it is magnificent and tranquil. The owner, Alexhandro, has kept the property beautiful and separated from the growth of the Island since the NYT named it one of the 52 places in the world to visit. The staff has been and remains amazing. Someone at Villas Flamingos has a talent for hiring people who enjoy and respects tourists, maybe Ivan. Our housekeeper, Maximilian was immaculate and accommodating. Our waiters: Andus, Juan (in a million), Jorge, Louis, we’re attentive and helpful in improving my Spanish and my enjoyment here! I travel with a friend that I taught with for 34 years. Her birthday is in March and they make a big deal every year. Even, decorating our room with balloons and towel cake. I love this hotel and everyone who works here. Fabian, Roman and Paula and Crystal on reservations answer every question you have from our planning stage in July to our departure. This hotel is Holbox’s greatest asset!
This was my first time to Holbox. Loved the island and enjoyed my stay at VF. Rooms are comfortable and the views incredible. There are refrigerators in the room and each room is given two small bottles of water each day... which is not enough unless you’re a camel. There is a safe in the room but no lock(?). Shampoo, bath gel and hair conditioner are provided along with huge bath towels. As an FYI, there aren’t any hair dryers, if this is something you need you’ll want to bring with You. The property has citronella lotion strategically located throughout to help with mosquitos that come out especially at dusk. There are padded lounge chairs on the beach but unfortunately not enough for everyone and a few select groups chose to selfishly monopolize the lounge chairs from others at VF. Large beach towels are provided for pool and beach use. The breakfast buffet, with made to order eggs, is wonderful. Breakfast served from 8:30-11 which is perfect so you don’t have to rush to enjoy. Lunch menu is delicious (fish tacos are wonderful) and beer menu is plentiful if you want beer in the beach. We had dinner two nights at the restaurant. Would highly recommend the molcajete with shrimp, octopus and chorizo for two. Service at the property is wonderful!! The wait staff in the restaurant and at breakfast is attentive and accommodating. I would recommend bringing smaller bills to give tips directly to the servers when you’ve been provided exceptional service versus waiting until the end of the week to tip. Feedback to management would be: -provide two large purified water bottle dispensers throughout the property to allow people to get as much water as needed throughout the day. This is the first property I’ve stayed at in Mexico in which endless purified drinking water is not readily available for consumption throughout the day, especially with being in the sun all day. -get more lounge chairs OR assign lounge chairs by room number so people aren’t fighting for chaise chairs on the beach. -provide locks on all safes in the rooms. This should be a basic requirement for all rooms so that guests feel comfortable and confident that electronics, jewelry, passports and cash can be locked up securely. Don’t wait until something is stolen and people then decide not to stay at your property as a result. Be proactive. -having coffee, hot tea, and decaf coffee available in the lobby in the evening would be a nice addition for those staying at the hotel.
My husband and I are staying here for a week with a group for a yoga retreat. Our ocean view bungalow has a modern, artistic feel with custom sculpted wood desk, bathroom counter and mosaic lined sink and shower. The service and amenities are spectacular. The breakfast is included and is great. The beach is lovely. We ours love to return!
An amazing hotell on an amazing island. Staff was super friendly and helpful. The room was perfect. And the loction a bit outside the little village suited us perfect. So tranquilt and layback. And a lot of iguanas to look at.breakfast was also very good.
Just spent our second time on Holbox, and second time in Villas Flamingos, February 2019. The pros: we have hardly ever seen better maintained facilities. Rooms are incredibly clean, noiseless cleaning and preparation of pools and sunbeds starts at 6:30, hot water is available in abundance, air condition works perfect. Staff is friendly and all issues are resolved timely, even for non-Spanish speakers as us. Our request of a room in the new building was kindly accepted and room no. 22 is awesome. Its in the best strip of the island's beaches. Many people come for a walk at the sand bank in front of the hotel beach, but we did not find that as a nuisance (except for some hipsters with sound machines, but those guys just can't be thoughtful, right?) The cons: The sea weed. There were tons of that terribly smelling stuff. And while one may say that's nature, well there can done something about it. In our 4 nights not a single new blade arrived at the beaches of Holbox, but Villas Flamingos did not seem to care about that nuisance. The beach, aka the see weed cemetery, starts about 1 meter away from the restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner. So you eat with a nose full of rotten ocean. Other hotels / beach bars did a great job on that, while most of Holbox hotels did nothing. However, considering the room rates of Villas Flamingos, we had expected providing guests a beautiful beach would be priority for the management. There was a wedding in the hotel during our stay, great, everybody is happy to accept some noise to facilitate someone else's special day. However, it would have been kind of the hotel to inform the hotel guests about that and provide complimentary ear plugs. We had some with us, but without that sleep in that night would have been scarce. Even when breakfast is included in the room rate, you need to sign an invoice over 0$. That is done to give you the opportunity for tips. However, this extends the breakfast procedure significantly, and we found that a bit demanding and unpolite. Conclusion: still the best place to stay in Holbox, no doubt. However, before booking, send them an inquiry about their sea weed policy. Maybe they will change their mind and do something about it, if enough clients call for it.
We haven’t stayed in the hotel, but we had lunch with in the restaurant. We passed by the restaurant on a walk along the beach (nicest part of the beach) and checked out the menu and we were pleasantly greeted by Andes. We likes the vibe and the menu but had already eaten. We decided to come back the next day. The food was very good and the service (by Andes) was attentive and fast. Unlike the other restaurants on the island.
