Wasn't sure what to expect...the location was fine and to stay in Jasper was way too expensive. The beds are very hard and squeaky...the wifi would cut out every once in awhile but it wasn't a big deal. The breakfast room was freezing cold and watch out for the lady working the breakfast room...the second day we decide to get something else for breakfast as the room was so cold and the food available was really disappointing...went to get a package of ketchup from the room and the woman working in the room yelled at my adult son in front of the full room that he could not 'do his grocery shopping there'...it was a package of ketchup and as a guest entitled to a free breakfast...it got pretty heated and a disappointing start to the day. The front desk staff apologized and got him a package...a bad ending for the stay.
Good hotel, you get what you pay for. A few rooms on the top-floor have these half-circular windows, they can't be covered with curtains so if you want a dark room, ask for another. And they also have a fireplace which, even on standby, produces some warmth...not nice in summer.
We stayed here instead of Jasper to save some money, and yes, people on Tripadvisor don't advise you to stay in Hinton, but personally I found nothing wrong with it. Getting to and from Jasper was a bit longer, but when daylight is for over 12 hours, I'm okay with spending some of that time driving. Bed and wifi was okay, breakfast was average and the staff were good. For a place to rest your head at night, definitely better than spending 2 or 3 times the price than staying in Jasper townsite.
We were pleasantly surprised! Hotel and rooms were clean and newer than what we expected. Price is excellent and a great value. We enjoyed our day in Jasper but it was so expensive to stay there that we thought we would try Hinton ... good choice. Nice big breakfast room and pleasant staff. Only problem is the bathtub wasn't draining so hopefully that gets fixed.
I was not staying at the hotel, but there is a good Japanese restaurant there. My jacket with my cell phone in it fell on the floor, someone picked it up and my cell phone somehow got separated from me. I realized around 11.00 pm and rushed back to find the restaurant closed. Unable to wait till the next day when they opened, I left my details with the front desk agent Ananya who was very helpful. She passed them along to the manager Will McLean who went way out of his way to package it up in an approved container and send it to me. Staying in many hotels during the year, I rarely find this level of honesty and customer concern. Thanks to both of them, and I received my phone in one piece some days later.
We stayed there for three nights during our trip to Jasper National Park. The hotel was clean and comfortable. The receptionist and manager were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was simple but solid. It is close to Walmart and some good restaurants. We had a pleasant time and saved money, comparing with staying at Jasper town.
Can't think of anything bad to say about this hotel. We just stayed in lake Louise the night before and paid $189 and it wasn't as good as this hotel. Comfy beds, great price, friendly staff. Clean rooms. All the staff we came across were friendly. You should stay here if you ever come through Hinton and I'm sure I will again! Thanks.
Customer service was atrocious... Young lady at front desk seemed more concerned about being on her phone, wouldn't respond to questions and appeared rather annoyed that she was being bothered...The rooms were unbearably hot ..Even with windows open and heat off....Will not stay here again...Only got 3 stars because of its reputation as a good corporate citizen.
Our party booked 4 rooms total, with 1 of them being handicapped accessible. All the rooms were clean and quiet, staff was very friendly. We left before breakfast was served--heading into Jasper National Park as the sun rose.
This was a great eco lodge after driving the beautiful Icefields pkwy. With the exchange rate a bargain. Worth the drive from Jasper to save. Was bummed I couldn't take a sightseeing flight from the nearby airport as the pilot couldn't get 2 more people. Saw the sign to get to the Alaskan highway up Rt 40 Bighorn hwy and wanted to keep going.!
